Mike and Charlotte - Mike Hennigar, Charlotte Bell

Mike Hennigar, Charlotte Bell A year off with no job, kids or mortgage. Just towering backpacks and each other. Where to? Southeast Asia sounds like a good place. But first we'll cross Canada from our home in Vancouver to Halifax. We'll make sure Elli the cat has a nice place to stay. Then it's on to Toronto for Xmas and Glasgow, Scotland for New Year. With aching livers we'll hit Bangkok on January 9th. From there? We'll let you know. Visit often.

Most of our time in Nova Scotia was spent on Mike's Mum and Dad's farm. Janet, Mike's Mum had surgery whilst we were there so it was perfect timing in that we got to spend some time with her beforehand and then visited her in hospital afterwards. The hospital was in Kentville, about and hour and a half from Halifax - on the West side of Nova Scotia. We managed to fit in a couple of visits. We stayed overnight at Annie and Deke's, Aunt and Uncle. On the way home from their house in St. Margaret's Bay, we stopped at [View Full Entry]

The end of our last blog saw us in pursuit of somewhere to do our washing after being on the road for over a week. However, our plan to fly into Halifax and then go and stay overnight at Mike's parents farm was soon squashed. By a bird!!! We phoned Westjet whilst driving towards Toronto and listed on the afternoon flight to Halifax. The reservation agent said that we should be fine going standby as there was space on the flight. When we arrived at the airport, we soon found out that would not be the case. The flight had been [View Full Entry]

Our drive back to Canada was fairly uneventful and even the wait at the border wasn't too long - an hour and a half or so. We reached Toronto airport at 7pm. Our friend Ben came to pick us up and after a quick stop at the house to pick up some extra provisions, we were soon on the road again. We drove North of Ontario into the Haliburton Highlands to the small town of Minden. We arrived late and all the others were off to bed. The next day we were up early and so was everyone else. Unfortunately, I found out that we had an extra hour that we didn't know about until after I'd come back from a quick run around the shops!!! Typical, however I did discover that Macy's in Chicago has 7 floors. That's right - 7! Even I was a bit lost. We were in Chicago for the Lollapalooza, a 3 day music festival which took place in Grant Park. The park sits on the edge of downtown and Lake Michigan. 8 stages were set up across the park and over 75,000 fans per day enjoyed music from artists such as Kanye West, Wilco, [View Full Entry]

It all started with a red-eye, overnight flight from Vancouver to Toronto. The plane was full and we were jammed in, sitting bolt upright, for four and a half hours. Needless to say, not much shut eye was to be had. We landed into Toronto at 7am. After collecting our bags, we wearily wandered to the rental car desks to pick up our motor. After collecting the keys we were soon on our merry way. About an hour into the drive we decided that a night of no sleep meant that we were pretty tired. We stopped at the services along [View Full Entry]

After the chaos of planning a wedding on the other side of the globe and our amazing wedding week in Scotland, we were pretty much KNACKERED!!! After the long journey from Glasgow to Toronto and then Calgary before finally reaching Vancouver, we were ready for a break. After unpacking and repacking we were soon on a plane bound for Honolulu and some piece and quiet. We knew we would be exhausted by the time the wedding was over and that relaxing was all we would want to do. That pretty much sums up our time in Honolulu. We stayed in the [View Full Entry]

A day I'd imagined all my life and what a day it would turn out to be. I think nearly every little girl dreams of her wedding day, the beautiful dress - marrying the man of your dreams. For me, I always wanted to be by water, in the open air. Scotland was ideal, perfect and home. It took months of research to decide that we could do it there, as the strong pound against the Canadian dollar made it an expensive choice. However, with some help, the possibility turned into reality. We started planning and my trip over at Christmas [View Full Entry]

After a very busy first five days of May, the 6th rolled round and we were on our way. Of to Scotland for our wedding!!! Three flights, twelve hours of waiting in airports and one lost jacket later (which we left at the first airport), we finally landed in Glasgow. My Gran picked us up and we were soon safe and sound in her flat in Paisley. We spent the night chatting with Gran and Lesley, who came round for a visit. When we could no longer keep our eyes open, we went to bed for some much needed wedding beauty [View Full Entry]

This blog isn't about any recent trips that we've done, more about a trip that we're going to be doing. It's really a blog about things to do and places to stay in Glasgow and out in Argyll, where we're getting married - it hopefully will help those of you coming over for a visit. The Glasgow area is a starting off point for many, especially since that's where the international airport is. The airport is about a 15 minute drive from Glasgow itself. It's actually situated beside the town of Paisley, where Charlotte's family live. Both Mike and Charlotte will [View Full Entry]

It's fair to say that I've seen my fair share of cold weather this winter. Working for Westjet means that I get to visit many Canadian cities and in winter - they're cold. In Calgary a few weeks ago it was minus 52 with the wind chill and the poor baggage handlers were feeling the effects of frostbite, bbrrrrrrr. However, it also means that I get to use passes to go to nice warm places - like Hawaii. Mike and I decided that we'd go away for my Birthday weekend. It's the best way to give presents to one another (since [View Full Entry]
