Well our holiday is coming to an end but I will fill you in on what we have been doing, in San Francisco we went on a cruise out to Alcatraz which was an experience, the kids now want to watch a movie about the escape from alcatraz, they actually have a list of about 8 movies that they want to see regarding places we have been which is good because it isn't all about visiting theme parks and doing exactly what Georgia wants! Walking up and down the hilly streets in San Fran was good for the calf muscles but the diet has certainly gone out of the window for the moment. The plane flight from San Fran to Hawaii was good it takes about 5 hours and we had to be at the ariport ... read more

Our trip started with driving up with Matt’s Dad, Ross, to Sydney. When the trip was booked back in March, the only flight available at the time we wanted to go was on AFL Grand Final Saturday. Following the stellar performance of Matt’s beloved Hawthorn Hawks, he knew from the outset of the finals that they would play at the Grand Final. As it turned out, we couldn’t watch it at the airport as the Grand Final finished at our earliest check-in time. We couldn’t stop at a pub, as Ross had to get back to Canberra for work. So the solution was found to stop at an airport hotel to watch the Final. We found a room which we could use for the day at the Hotel Ibis near Sydney Airport. We watched the game. ... read more

Today was a 'busy' day. As we didn't want to take the chance of getting on the public bus with all our bags again, Ollie and Dale left Mark in the hostel to guard the luggage. They took the bus back to the airport where they were to pick up the rental car. After a few hours, Mark was beginning to get a bit worried but then he caught site of a white convertible cruising into the parking lot of the hostel. It had turned out that the car we wanted to rent was not available and so we were upgraded for free to a convertible Chrysler Seabring! We loaded up the boot with our luggage, which unfortunately meant the roof had to be up, and then headed to Subway for our lunch. Since O'ahu was ... read more

Here are a few pictures and videos from a short trip to Oahu with friends last week. Ingrid and Jim (friends from Sacramento) and Ingrid's brother Mark (from Annapolis) and I all met up in Oahu at Bellows AFS for a few days. Jim went diving every day while Ingrid and I hung out at the beach. Mark had to spend a few days at the Marine Corps Base at Kane'ohe Bay. Fortunately his nights were free...we all had a great time. Nothing really beats Hawaii with friends. Bellows AFS is on the East side of Oahu, quite a distance from Waikiki Beach and Honolulu. I recommend a visit to Waikiki, if for no other reason than to say you've been there, but I would never want to spend a great deal of time on Waikiki...there ... read more

Greetings from the other side of the world. After 1/2 an hour delay in Adelaide we finally took off around noon, 4 1/2 hour flight to NZ was uneventful and fun. Two hour layover and then enroute to Hawaii, another 8 or so hours in the air arriving at 7:15am on the same day we left..........virtually no sleep on the plane, its very hard to sleep sitting up. As we arrived so early our room wasn't ready so we had to wander around until lunch time. Severely jet lagged so we had to have a little nanny nap. Headed off to find somewhere for dinner, Cheeseburger Paradise looked good and it was. Most restaurants don't have any windows as there are no flies, mossies or moths in Hawaii. Back to the hotel to crash for the ... read more

We arrived in Vancouver on an Air Canada Flight. The plane was delayed, as they are, and we were very tired when we arrived. Flight smooth but in flight entertainment yuk. It would have been better if I was six inches taller to see over the seat in front of me. it didn't matter, Dead Poet's Society....what century were we in?? I guess I didn't miss much. Tried to sleep and thanks to those pillows Jae, they helped a lot. Vancouver is stunning. Such a beautiful place. The weather has been hot. Yesterday we went sailing on Jon and Gerry's sailing boat, "Allonsa~y" (french for "let's go") We Started in Howe Sound through the Gap and out into the Georgia Strait which is part of the Pacific ocean. The weather was so lovely there was ... read more

Haiku Ladder (3922 steps to Heavenly views of Oahu). The Ha'ikū Stairs, also known as the Stairway to Heaven or Haiku Ladder, is a steep hiking trail on the island of Oahu. The trail began as a wooden ladder spiked to the cliff on the south side of the Haiku Valley. It was installed in 1943. This set of stairs, tucked into the cliffs above Haiku Valley, reaches for the crest of the Koolaus. Its frequent disappearance into the clouds has earned it the name "Stairway to Heaven". Update: As of 2003, the stairs have been completely repaired after the city spent $875,000 to renovate it - new ladder/steps have been installed along the entire trail. Unfortunately, legal access is still currently on hold. What to Expect: The stairs are comprised of approximately eight-foot-high segments which ... read more
