Saturday I had every intention of spending the entire day on the beach with a book and my I-Pod until I got a text message from Shayne with the offer of hiking Diamond Head crater. Not exactly a relaxing morning on the beach but he promised he would take me to one after. We hiked the hour and a half roundtrip hike which for me was more of a positive because of the workout not so much the view. The view was spectacular but luckily Hawaii is full of spectacular views so this one I just added to the list. We made our way to a small beach and laid around all afternoon reading and eating and sleeping and snorkling and swimming. Yay!! At one point I saw a man walking out of the water ... read more

My last two days here in Hawai'i have been fantastic. This place is exactly what I pictured in my head. Beautiful scenery and laid back people. My friend Darek has been showing me an amazing time. My first full day here we went to this isolated beach. There were only about 20 people on this huge beach complete with lighthouse and an island just off the coast. Lindsey, his roommate, and their friend Gerny went with us. We all just laid around and occasionally cooled off in the sea. We ended up going to a bar/grill called Kona and proceeded to drink from about 3:30 in the afternoon to 6. I met a guy named Shayne at the bar who was also traveling alone. We made plans to hang out the next day. Darek's crew and ... read more

Well we just got back from Maui. Where we spent just one week touring and not too much relaxing. It started off with my mom's luggage not making the flight but we did get it a day later... We actually stayed in the town of Kannappali just north of Lahaina but the hotel name was Royal Lahaina so it was kinda confusing. Our first day we went shopping and relaxed around Whalers village. Not too much happened this day other than waking up and seeing the beach from our Ocean Front room. We had a free upgrade from partial ocean view to ocean view then we paid the $30/day to upgrade to ocean front. November 29th: I turned 25. we started the day off with renting a car... Not just any car but a hard top ... read more

Los Angeles Arrived into LA excited and ready to go...ok yah thats a lie. I arrived into Los Angeles feeling crappy and ready to go to sleep. My whole body was achy, I could NOT get comfortable on the plane and all I wanted to do was go to sleep. I walked down the stairs and found Ike. He ended up booking a hotel room for me due to roommate issues which at first I was PISSED about. I had told him so many times I didnt want to stay in a hotel..I would rather just stay in a hostel with “my people” aka backpackers. He then told me my hotel was at Hollywood and Highland, right in the middle of everything.then I found out it was a really really nice hotel and he was paying ... read more

========================================================================== Here a few impressions of the Big Island pups, to whom I've lost my heart (or which whom Hoku has to share it at least) =) They are all rescue dogs who now found a good, loving home... or at least a "interstation" with Debbie & Joe - a very nice couple that I visit quite often on the Big Island.... read more

Hitchhiking is the best way to get around Kauai. The bus is only $1.50 but it doesnt run on sundays or holidays. and the bus only runs to 730pm. and the buses dont go everywhere. people really do pick up hitchhikers on kauai. noone should drive in a car without at least one passenger to lighten the carbon footprint. it is pleasant. i like being able to have a 15 minute personal conversation with a stranger. you get all of their attention so you get to learn alot about a perfect stranger. the first question is always, 'how long have you been on the island?' so far only one person has told me that they were born here. everybody else has a story about how they came to be on the island. it is interesting to ... read more

A week has gone by since we landed and Michelle has headed home. We had every intention of posting daily - but by the time we got back to our room we fell asleep exhausted. Here are a few highlights of our days. Our first day was one of my favorite days. We headed to Huna beach - one of the top 10 beaches in the world. We swam and after being sufficiently roasted headed up to the North end of the Island and hiked down a beautiful valley. I will add the names later. We ended the day with dinner at Bongo Bob's which had a live band and overlooked Alli drive. ... read more
