Spent most of the day travelling around Hawaii. I flew out of the Kona International Airport (an open air waiting area around the gates). I went to Oahu and then flew onover to Kaua'i. I picked up my convertible mustang and finally found The Cliffs where I am staying. I missed the resort at first and had to go over some of the famous one lane bridges here in Kuau'i. I am looking forward to exploring more over the next few days.... read more

What a drive!!! I decided to head up the Waimea Canyon today. That is an amazing drive up and down the canyon. The convertible definately was nice to have. The canyon is awe inspiring. You definately see why they call it the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. It is amazing to look at this huge canyon and then you realize you are on an island in the Pacific. WOW.!!!! I went up a little farther and caught a small glimpse of the Na Pali coast of Kauai. I kept looking around for a T-Rex or one of those spitting dinos. I definatley see why Jurassic Park filmed here. It is amazing to look down almost 4,000 feet to the ocean. AMAZING. I also stopped at the spouting horn. It is a hole in the lava that ... read more

It is my last night in Hawaii - and I am ready to go home. I am tired of living out of a suitcase and tired of strange beds. The last two weeks have been unbelievable. Really. The day after we did Punch Bowl and Pearl Harbor, we went to the USS Missouri and the Pacific Aviation Museum. It was incredible. Though it was a long day for Grandpa I think he really enjoyed it. He told us several things on the ship and then when we went to the aviation museum he was really talkative. A docent there came over and was chatting with him for awhile, and then we moved on to a floor map of the Pacific where Grandpa was toeing out all of the islands he had been on or bombed. It ... read more

Good evening. Will try to do the next page of my travel blog. Mark and Karen left early this morning and hiked to the top of Diamond Head. They made reallly good time. Barb, Bob and I had breakfast togather. When Mark and Karen got home they took off for the beach. Barb and I went shopping for awhile. Didnt have much luck. Bob had to stay in for his diaretic. After we all got back we walked down the street for a sandwich then to a little memorial where some of the original Hawaiians are not really buried there, but where they honor them. Later we walked to the Halekalani (Probably not spelled right). It is beautiful but I couldnt help but remember it as it was in 1975 when we were here and stayed ... read more

Aloha!! Well what a day we've had today!! We were up at 5.15am and off around the corner to Denny's for breakfast, and I might add like London this place never sleeps. 7.00am was pick time for an hours drive to the west coast to Waianae for our swimming with dolphins trip. After a 20 min. ride out on a sea that was as flat as a mill pond, in what can only be described as a huge dingy......lol, we arrived at our destination. You could see the Hawaiian Spinner dolphin straight away, and boy were there a lot of them, about 8 pods. With our flippers and snorkel gear on we were soon in the water, which was unexpectedly warm given the hour of the day. We had two underwater camera's so took loads of ... read more

Last day on HI. I did not really have big plans just sort of chillin out my last day here. I have been here 4 days and had not been swimming yet. I went to a reconstructed ancient hawaiian site that was on the ocean. Pretty neat to learn about their ancient culture. I walked just down the beach and went snorkelling. It is amazing how brightly colored the fish are. The water was very clear and cooler than I was expecting. Did not spend a lot of time in the water, don't want to get burnt first time in the water. Flying out to Kaua’I on Saturday. I hear it is gorgeous and looking forward to that. ... read more

Aloha Again, We had a much deserved day off on Thursday....lol :O) and what a better way to relax than go to the beach!! So we headed back to Waimanalo Beach, on the way we stopped off at another beach and did a bit of beachcombing where we searched for shels and coral, I found coral in the end she was was behind me....lol After reaching Waimanalo we sunbathed and played in the sea for about 5hrs. Oh My God did we burn!! We had company while in the sea in the shape of a greenback turtle which came to within about 15ft of us. Later on we went out for dinner and then onto the waikiki beach for our special webcam show :O) Today we went on an early morning hike to Manoa waterfall which ... read more

Hello again from Hawaii. Yesterday got away and by the time we got home from dinner Bob and I were so tired so I will try to do both days now. We went to Punchbowl yesterday morning. It is so beautiful there. It wasnt crowded at all so we went thur the murals. Bob told us all about where he was. Karen recorded it on her camera. This time it was more emotional for him and I could hear the stress in his voice. We walked around some after that, took pictures and just appreciated the sacrifice all the men and women there made for our freedom we enjoy today. It is a very sobering place, yet still so beautiful and enjoyable. We left there and went to the Arizona Memorial. Just wandered thur the museum ... read more

El diez de Mayo, no special holiday, as far as I know. Just the day the Local Filipino Community in Hawaii happened to pick for their Annual Fiesta in the Park. The Parade started at ungodly hour of 8AM. Sorry don’t have any photos for you on this event. When I finally arrived at the Park, a Escrima or Kali demo was going on with guys in Kendo Armor battling each other with a pair of sticks each. Latter came performances, that seemed Catholic in nature, resembling scenes from Mexican movies of villagers honoring Jesus or Mary. Next were performances that seem Moro or Muslim in nature, combined with Spanish colonial type ballroom dance. As most Culture events seem to have their audience participation portion, where for comedy relief or other reasons, such the Koreans with ... read more

Thursday was my 35th birthday. I spent it on the island of HI. That is not a bad way to celebrate another year. I spent the morning walking around the town of Kona. Every Oct triathletes from around the world come to Kona to compete in the Kona Ironman. The ironman consists of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and then a 26.2 mile run. The race starts and finishes oceanfront in Kona. It is a nice place to walk around and people watch. My big plans for the day was the Mauna Kea Summit tour. We were taken to the top of Mauna Kea to see the sun set. Mauna Kea is the world’s largest volcano at over 13,700 feet tall. If measured from the sea floor it would measure over 32,000 feet ... read more
