Day 2 - Disney/MGM Studios We had checked the weather before we came down, and even when we arrived, the timeshare said we were going to have rain all week. Depressing, but we figured we’d make the best of it, either way. Today, however, was a welcome, beautiful Florida day. We could not have asked for more beautiful weather. Partly cloudy, slightly misty in the morning, but sunny and hot (and humid) the remainder of the day. Today we ventured out into Disney/MGM Studios. It was a great (and exhausting!) day. The boys really enjoyed The Backlot Tour, MuppetVision 3-D, Playhouse Disney live on Stage, Tower of Terror (Ryan and Mom went on that one), The Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage show, Voyage of the Little Mermaid, and even Star Tours. We tried to ... read more

After leaving my family, I started couchsurfing my way south, making a stop in every state. The first one was Richmond, VA. My host was a cool (but quite busy) woman called Laura. I arrived at her place pretty late at night, and the following day I woke up late the first time in a long time, took the bus to the city and started walking around. I spent some time in a pretty interesting Civil War Museum, walked around the river (not the prettiest I've seen, but for the first time in the US I saw ppl swimming in it and jumping from ropes, like to the Jordan...), and walked to a really cool district called The Fan - a lot of old and nice houses, an avenue with monuments every couple of blocks, a ... read more

Hello everybody! Just a quick entry - before I get ready to go to work - on how my first day behind the Front Desk at the Grand Floridian went. I turned up about 40 minutes early absolutely terrified and with no idea of where I was supposed to go or where I should meet my trainer! Luckily I ran into Tatiana, a fellow trainee, and her trainer Hank, who showed me where to go and wait for my trainer, Shereene - who didn't no she was training me. D'oh! No matter, she is really very sweet and is showing me the ropes until Thursday. The first time behind the desk was pretty scary but Shereene seems to think I'm doing good so I'm getting lots of practice. Although I was pretty alarmed when I was ... read more

Welcome to our travel Blog. Renee and I are leaving the US tomorrow night with our friends Bill and Faye for two weeks. We're celebrating our 25th Anniversary - about a month early and Bill and Faye agreed to come with us. Tomorrow night (Friday) we head for Barcelona, Spain via Madrid. On Monday we sail aboard the Celebrity Century from Barcelona for 11 Nights traveling the Mediteranean. This seems like a great way to keep everyone up to date on our trip and sure beats postcards. We'll post an update each day we have internet access. I've been reading postings from our fellow cruisers all day on the Cruise Critic Website Forum (a great place to subscribe if you are taking a cruise). Since it was 91 degrees today here in Orlando, I laughed at ... read more

Afternoon everybody! Today is the fourth and final day of my training at Disney University on how to be a good checker-inner. Last year I thought there was a lot to remember being a vacation planner (fact fans: did you know there are over 100 different ticket combinations available at Walt Disney World?)...it turns out that there's even more when you are on the front desk! You need to know about ticketing AND check-in, check-out, in-house procedures, groups, retail packages, wholesale packages, blah blah blah....AND, do all this while remembering to say 'assist' instead of 'help' and call them 'guests', NOT customers. No wonder I am so exhausted at the moment, my brain is being overloaded with information! My friend who I lived with last year was training me for the first couple of days which ... read more

CM had a conference in Orlando, so we decided to both make it a vacation opportunity. Of course that vacation was not in Orlando! As Jessica put it, "so you guys figured you were on the East coast, so you might as well hop over to Europe..." Basically, yes. We still have some really cool photos of South America to post, but the trips are coming so fast and furious, that we can't keep up on the travelblog. Expect some SA catch up posts soon! But first, we do a quick post on the wasteland that is Orlando... While CM was working, J drove around in vain just looking for a restaurant that he would eat at. All of Orlando appears to be a strip mall. There was a nearby road that had every possible chain ... read more

Morning all! Yesterday was my very first day of work, consisting of an induction to my new workplace - Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, otherwise known at the Grand or the Grand Flo. I was not too impressed at having to get up at 6am, especially as I had gone out to PI (Pleasure Island, Disney's clubbing complex) the night before to 'bond' with other people on the program, which proved harder than expected. But more on that later! The morning consisted mostly of us doing a walking tour of the Grand Flo property, most of which was completed with my mouth hanging wide open at some of the sights and statistics thrown at us. For example: the most expensive room costs nearly $3000/night. The hotel has a big yacht that you can hire by ... read more

Hello! Well day 3 at Disney and it's still very hot, very humid and very sunny. Not that I'm rubbing it in or anything!! Housing update: I have to stay in my wellness apartment (i.e. under-21s, i.e. alcohol-free) for 3 weeks minimum before I can be moved, and that is subject to availability. This is pretty annoying, but luckily the girls who are in this apartment are really nice, so it's not all bad news. Fortunately I have somewhere else to store my beers!! In other news, I have been up to my eyeballs in various bits of paperwork. Still. Even after getting here! Fortunately, paperwork days are now (hopefully) over. All our immigration papers have been checked over about 30 times, I've opened a bank account, sold my soul to Disney for the second time, ... read more

After a fantastic time in NYC I joined another Contiki group which was fantastic. Basically there were two options for this tour one was from NYC to New Orleans which is what I did and the longer option was NYC to LA which the majority of the group was doing. It was a fantastic group and we had a great time together so that was really lucky. Once again I have way to much to tell and don't want to drive anyone crazy reading it so I will give a bit of a summary and whole lot of pictures which are way more interesting anyways ... Day One: NYC to Philadelphia to see all the monuments and stuff, this is where the constitution was written and civil war stuff etc etc. Was pretty cool to see ... read more

It's 5:07am here in apartment 206, Vista Way and jetlag has kicked in (my body, exhausted though it is, thinking it is 10:07am and therefore time to get up) so now seemed like the perfect opportunity to tell you all about my trip over here. I was not a big fan of the 330am start!!! Especially as the night before I had been up til midnight with some friends who had come to say one last goodbye...but, that of course was worth it :o) Me and mum made our way, half-asleep, to check-in for 5am. I have never seen Heathrow so quiet in my life. Saying bye to mum was really, really hard, so I cheered myself up in the departure lounge with a few random purchases. My flights were amazingly fine. The flight to Chicago ... read more
