Today, much to my joy, we were to spend shopping. The rest of the family wanted to take advantage of cheap US prices, and in honesty I needed some bits as well, so we headed to the Mall at Millennia (stupid name I know). The mall was rubbish, like Bluewater but smaller, though there were much less hoodies there. I wonder though where men in Florida get their clothes from, as there was hardly any menswear shops there. This could explain why they dress like 1970's throwbacks. The only thing I bought was a book on Che Guevara, but this was mostly to try to shock the people I'd seen with those God Bless America bumper stickers. That was pretty much it for today. Lazed around the pool in the afternoon and secretly got a bit ... read more

No real plans for today, none of the other theme parks appealed and it was a bit too cold for a water park (which given my abnormal fear of drowning was quite a relief), so we settled on playing a couple of games of mini golf. I won the first one easily and if it wasn't for pausing for lunch in between, I reckon I'd have won the second one too. Talking of lunch, we went over the road to a place called Friendly's. A fairly appropriate name, since the waitress clearly fancied me. Apparently I have the 'rugged, manly look' going on. My brother on the other hand is 'podgy'. Did nothing at all in the afternoon until dinner time when we stormed (yes, we actually stormed) out of a restaurant because they wanted ID ... read more

Today was the American holiday of Thanksgiving (though my suggested re naming of it would be a much more interesting festival), and as a result a lot of shops and stuff were closed. However, the theme parks weren't, so we decided to go to Universal Studios, which I'd also been to before, but not for about 10 years. It was a bit disappointing in all honesty. The attractions were dated and nothing much seemed to have changed from when I was last there. However, I did manage to win by a huge margin on the Men in Black ride (I scored 360,000 the next best was about 30,000). We'd finished the park by about 3 so went back to Islands of Adventure to go on some proper rides. Unfortunately, my dodgy stomach had resurfaced, so this ... read more

Set out for Orlando the following day and as usual, the journey took us a little longer than it would take normal people. Got to the hotel eventually though, which was a bit of a shock - my mum appeared to have booked us into the gayest hotel in the world. I can't upload photos at the moment, but it was a big pink castle. To reassert my masculinity, I picked a fight with David as soon as we got in the room, forgetting he was bigger than me. That afternoon was spent putting my camera in to be fixed (yay!) and losing to my dad at mini golf (boo!). The next day we took a trip to Islands of Adventure, in my opinion the best of Orlando's famous theme parks. I'd been once before 5 ... read more

Hello one and all!! It's been a little while since I last I last wrote anything, but it's certainly been a very busy week!! In between working odd hours and sleeping to get over the odd hours, I've been out doing stuff in the parks with my friends as much as possible, so there hasn't been much time to sit down and write all about it! But now, here I am :) Last week saw Disney start gearing up for Christmas - now in my opinion, Christmas starts on December 1st and not a moment before, but given that this year I am living in the very heart of the American dream I think I'm going to have to make an exception and just get into the spirit! Over the last weekend the annual Gingerbread House ... read more

Good afternoon one and all!! I have survived another week in the thick of Mouse-land - and today is a month to the day that I have been here!! It's gone really fast, only 5 more to go... This week has been particularly tiring due to a combination of finishing training at work and that most commerical of American holidays....Halloween!! As you can imagine, the combination of Halloween and Walt Disney World has the sound of tills ringing in many people's mind, which is very true, but it was also a huge amount of fun being in the hotel and seeing all the little kids dressed up beyond all recognition in a variety of amazing outfits!! I went to two Halloween parties this week - one at Building 30 and one at my old housemate Pat's ... read more

Day 4 - Day off… Day off, well, not quite. This morning, it was pretty nice. Cloudy and warm, and maybe a little windy, but still nice. We spent a couple hours swimming in the pools at our resort. Really nice, heated pools, and a kiddie playground pool, as well as a nice big hot tub. The boys loved it so much, they didn’t want to leave. But, we had to. We then returned to our unit for lunch. Sandwiches, cheez puffs, snacks, and cookies. After lunch, we dried off, changed up, and headed out to do some shopping. We checked out some of the local stores before we headed to Downtown Disney. Lego land again. I think the boys would live there if they could. After 2 hours of constructing, the boys finally agreed to ... read more

Day 3 - EPCOT Today was one wet day. It rained almost the whole day, and not just a little bit, but downpours…We were pretty well soaked by the end of the day. We still had a great time, though. Ryan and I did Mission: Space, while Joshie and Mom spent some time in the control room, planning and having fun. We then headed to Test Track, but it was closed because of the rain. We did, however, grab a fast pass to come back @3:50-4:50, so we went to hit some of the other great rides. Ryan and Josh both loved the Finding Nemo Ride, and Turtle Talk with Crush was the absolute coolest thing. Ryan was so excited, as he got to talk to Crush, and the attraction is 100% interactive, so Crush talked ... read more

Hello everybody!! This weekend has been one of extreme randomness and general craziness. After a week of training at the Grand Floridian, my brain was just about ready to explode - as were those of my friends who were in a similar situation - so come Saturday we needed to have some fun. First of all though was class!! This is week two of my lectures at UCF and so far they are going well. Despite having been promised faithfully that there would be no homework, I do have 3 projects to complete, but ultimately I want to get the most possible out of this course so I'm determined to give it a go. 4 hours of learning on top of a long week at work made us all pretty tired though, so we decided to ... read more
