I now see why Michigan can't win a bowl game. They spoil the players silly. This year I'm down in Orlando with the Michigan football team enjoying almost all the benefits of playing football for Michigan. We met at Schembechler Hall (the football building on campus) on Christmas day and headed towards a private hanger at Metro Airport. We boarded our PRIVATE 747 which took the team, staff, coaches, and their families down to Orlando. Had everyone flow on this flight, it would have been full. However many players opted to fly from other parts of the country. Our plane was maybe 2/3 full. So when a 747 is that empty, some people get several seats to themselves. After we took off, we were served a delicious meal of steak and red skin potatoes. I laid ... read more

A trip to Walt Disney theme parks is a dream for many kids. But I ain't no kid. So what was I doing there during a couple of days before Christmas? Well Walt Disney parks in Florida are one of the top tourist destinations in the work. Millions visit every year. Christmas holiday time is more crowded than other times of the year, I think. The lights, decorations and festivities surrounding the holidays make it a little more special. So I was curious. After a really long road trip to Everglades and Florida Keys during Thanksgiving holidays in Nov, maybe I was a little reluctant to drive again to Florida in less than a month. But having not gotten any good deals for flights to anywhere in US, here I was, ready to drive from DC ... read more

On to my next Adventure… Merry Christmas! I hope everyone’s holidays are going well! I’ve gotten all sentimental this Christmas season and thought I would send out a little life update and a few thoughts from my time with Carnival. As most of you know, I have finished my contract with Carnival Cruise Lines and am back on land for a good while. I had the time of my life the last few months I was onboard-a time of intense fun and equally intense hardship. The first evening I spent back with family they told me I had changed- matured, calmed, grew up a little. I’m glad they noticed because I feel it: like someone gave me a chill pill and taught me how to laugh again. I could rant and rave for eons about all ... read more

Christmas eve 6pm ... our travel day we leave for London in route to Madrid! TravelMap The adventure begins! Day 1 Orlando airport and our flight is 2 hours late. Darn... and I forgot 2 check that ahead of time, so here we sit in our home airport. Oh well, no worries, it just shortens the 3 hour wait we have for our London flight to Madrid. LESSON LEARNED .... Always check ur international flight BEFORE u leave home. But waiting here is no real problem since ..hey..we gotta wait somewhere. We came pretty close to getting a seat upgrade. The flight has only 50 people, so we asked for the upgrade, the line attendant was trying to get us to her cousin at the counter..she had said 'why not?..its Christmas!' But another attendant was available ... read more

Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas everybody!! Even though Disney is all about the holiday season, I'm still not feeling particularly Christmassy - although right now I'm sat in my living room surrounded by Christmas lights and watching the Wizard of Oz, which isn't entirely unfestive!! But Christmas Day is on Tuesday and I still keep referring to it as 'Tuesday', not Christmas Day. I think it's because I'm still wandering around in a vest top and jeans rather than freezing my butt off in Yorkshire!! The last few weeks at work have been quiet, because of the pre-Christmas lull, but to be honest I haven't been at work very much because my friend Andy came to stay for a week - so I got other people to work my shifts in my place :) Me and ... read more

Obfuscator writes: We left Savannah a bit later than we had planned, but since we didn't really have anything on our itinerary other than getting to Cape Canaveral, it didn't end up mattering. The drive was moderately annoying, mostly because it's all construction between Savannah and there. It took a few hours, but nothing too unreasonable. When we got near Cape Canaveral, we stopped at a barbeque place for lunch. It wasn't great, but it was all right for an all you can eat. Following that, we headed out to the Kennedy Space Center, to pick up our tickets. This was relatively trouble free, aside from slow people with bizarre questions in front of us in line. The launch passes also function as basic tickets to see the Visitors Complex, and they're good for two days. ... read more

Hello again one and all, sorry it's been such a long while!! I can't believe it's December already...time is flying so fast! I have been here 2 months today and it only seems like a few weeks. Things are starting to get exciting now as the parks gear up for Christmas. Well, actually, they've had the Christmas decorations up in the Grand for about a month now, but that's America for you - getting into the spirit early! Just after my last entry was Thanksgiving, and I was lucky enough to get enough days off in a row to go up to New Jersey to see my sister Stephanie, my brother-in-law Bill and my nieces Laura and Hilary. It was really nice to see them all again after such a long time - we didn't do ... read more

Leaving the Keys, we drove to our next destination -- a time-share in Orlando. Turned out that each of us got our own suite for a room! Irene & Carl (Nicole's folks) were in Orlando, so we met them for dinner that evening, then later tried to watch a movie. Had a bit of troubles with the surround sound, so 2 guys came out to fix it from maintinence. Took probably 20+ minutes, and it was already 11pm, so Carl & Irene went back to their hotel. We decided to meet the next day at Disney Animal Kingdom around 9am. For the next few days, we explored Animal Kingdom, Disney MGM, Epcot, and the Magic Kingdom together. The sun was out full-strength, but it felt great. We went on every ride we could; some four or ... read more
