Allow me to make an introduction please...
In brief: I'm a native Washingtonian that has lived in and traveled throughout the United States; as well as various destinations in North America, Australia, Europe, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. Two of my greatest passions are PHOTOGRAPHY & TRAVELING! ("Can I get an Amen, choir?")
Started Photography in a traditional fashion with a 35 mm camera & dark room training while in JR High. Over the years, my interest in technology drew me to the artistry of digital, while still being able to apply traditional methods of ISO settings & F-stops.
In between my trips, feel free to check out my other travel & local-to-Pacific Northwest images: www.AbiznessDigitalImages.com

Iditarod 38 - the Tourist start On a chilly morning @ 8:15am, we bundled up from head to toe and drove downtown to C & 4th street for the official 'tourist' start to the 38th Iditarod Race. It's the last Greatest Race on earth!!! To quote from the official site: "...It’s unlike any other event in the world. A race over 1,150 miles of the most extreme and beautiful terrain known to man: across mountain ranges, frozen rivers, dense forests, desolate tundra and windswept coastline ... " After a mere $20 for a parking spot, we trudged up the alley-way toward the sound of barking dogs. Rows of sled dogs and mushers lined the roadside getting ready for the 10am race start: http://www.iditarod.com/race/ Within the hour, sled teams assembled themselves along 4th street. Every 2 minutes,

Before departing Fairbanks, we stopped at the University of Alaska campus to check out the Museum of the North . We were told about a room called "The Place Where You Go to Listen" that was absolutely fascinating. Here's what the web site says: "... a unique sound and light environment created by composer John Luther Adams. This ever-changing musical ecosystem gives voice to the rhythms of daylight and darkness, the phases of the moon, the seismic vibrations of the earth and the dance of the aurora borealis, in real time." It was a 6 hour trip back in the car from Fairbanks. The weather was fairly co-operative -- sunny & smooth driving until we hit an hour

Snow capped mountains & frost covered trees lined the roadway as we gained higher ground and cooler temperatures. Just outside of Denali Park, the GPS soon reported single digits - 9 degrees! Yikes! (Can you hear Kathy saying "yeah!"???) After 4 + hours of driving, nature called to fill our bellies & empty our bladders. (Hmmm, was there a roadside squat?? We'll never tell!) A roadside Grill provided yummy burgers for all!! Soon we were back on the road and making tire tracks to Fairbanks. Sadly, there were no real wild-life sightings other than a LARGE Raven or two, but that didn't discourage us from enjoying the gorgeous scenery. Our agenda included a

There is a nice white-ish carpet of compacted snow everywhere we go. We had a fabulous dinner at the Rose's place - I love BBQ ribs & coleslaw ;-) Saturday, we did more than most people do in one week here. Took a trip down to downtown to investigate Fur Rondy & all it's festivities. We arrived when the foot race was going on. People were dressed in various costumes while they made their way along 4th Ave. The parade started around 11am, so we stopped in for some Chai Tea & Hot Chocolate at one of the Tea Shops. Suddenly someone was yelling that the parade had started, so we wrapped ourselves up, and headed

(Will try to post a picture tonight or tomorrow once we land.) Lots on the docket for Anchorage if weather permitting. Definitely won't be driving the normal speeds on the newly fallen snow. The plan is to drive up to Fairbanks on Monday - which is reporting -17 degrees but improving over the next couple of days. (Scattered snow showers. Highs in the upper 20s and lows in the upper single digits.) Gloves, hat, scarf, and boots a MUST!! Pray for safe airline travels & stay tuned... ~"Us"

We gather onto a bus, then board a ferry for a 30 minute trip to the coast, then take another bus to a tourist shop & onto Aztecan ruins. Thank goodness we started at 9am that day as it was already toasty. The tour was quite informative. By the end of an hour, we were ready to explore the ruins built on top a sea side cliff. The palms were swaying & there was a nice tropical breeze coming up off the water. Tons of iguanas roamed the site. Beaches were covered with pristine white sand. If we had more time, maybe a swim would have been in order. Alex & Nicole posed with an

We managed to hire a shuttle bus drive tour of the island. Not much to really see, but we did manage to stop & get treats at a gas station before touring the neighboring houses, the beach, and eventually landing at a resort/retreat for lunch. Back on Board... The had split the boat up into 3 teams - red, white, & blue. We managed to play alot of games to get points whilst shouting "Go White team, Go White team, Go!" over & over again. The main focus was to taunt the Red & Blue teams while passing in the halls

Today the plan was to shop for a bit, come back to shop, then leave on our excursion -- Glass Bottom Kayaking & snorkeling! Am told that Roatan Island is one of the 'richest' in Honduras. By the first block, one could see that it was still very 3rd world. Lots of little wood shacks with no fans or air conditioners, pot holes in the paved roadways, tons of vendors & little bars on the water. Lots of blocky yellow & turquoise buildings with lush trees & plants lined the street-way. We were there first thing in the morning for them (we went by ship-time), so lots of kids were

After our first fancy dinner, we met back up with Alex & went dancing at Club Hot! (Mostly older people swinging to the the 50's-60's-70's. It was a blast! Grand Cayman First port of call! We decided not to take any excursions, but rather grab a taxi & explore the town.
