Day Three at Universal Studios
Published: April 6th 2013North America » United States » Florida » OrlandoWe're back at it again!......back to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. It kind of feels like we have been doing an amusement park marathon: 3 Universal Studios parks in a week....whew! This visit began later in the day: 4:00 PM. We were told the crowds would be smaller and the wait lines shorter. It was partially true - the wait lines were a lot shorter; the crowds were still about the same....maybe a little smaller. We received a bonus when we entered the park. We were each given a free pass for the express line for one ride. Normally, this pass costs an additional $50.00 on top of the park ticket price. That pass is good all day and for all rides except the Harry Potter rides (highest demand). It was a nice surprise to get ... read more
Time is running short to fit in all our family activities yet to do before they have to head North. The clouds were overhead but Cory's Doppler and the TV weatherman both predicted the rains would come around 5:00 PM. Thus, we piled into the cars and went to Gatorland around noon time. I had given such rave reviews that it was a "must see" on the "to do" list. The ticket line was quite long and the parking lot was full so we were not alone in our positive thinking. We entered the park with overcast skies but nice warm weather to give you a false sense of promise for a successful visit to this fantastic park. We "oooohhh" and "aaaaahhh" over the mounds of alligators in their watery confines. We made our way quickly ... read more
Disney Village Dining at The Earl
Published: April 3rd 2013North America » United States » Florida » OrlandoI was sure my tuna melt at the Earl of Sandwich could not get any better BUT it did! This time we had our family with us as we devoured the scrumptious treat. Everything is so much better with everyone with us! The three boys stayed back at the condos, though. I think I failed to mention earlier that Alan (oldest grandson) has left our group. He flew home to Scio, N.Y. on Easter. He had to rejoin the real world like we all will have to do soon...rats. He had flown down to Daytona Beach with two of his buddies and lived the fast life for a week. Then, he turned around in 2 days and joined his family down here in Orlando - not quite the same fast life but hopefully a fun one. ... read more
Day Two at Universal Studios
Published: April 1st 2013North America » United States » Florida » OrlandoUniversal Studios Florida was the park of choice for the day. This park offers the sights and rides from the various movies and TV shows we are all familiar with: E.T., Men in Black, The Simpsons, etc. Again, because it is Easter week, the crowds are large and the lines are long. The family manages to cope well with it though - getting onto the different rides that just make me shutter. The one ride I do like is E.T. but it had an hour wait so we passed it by. The resting spot for those of us who were the non-riders was Finnigan's Bar & Grill. This is the same place where Cory & I sit when we wait for the Mardi Gras parade on Saturday nights. We sat inside this cheerful restaurant and enjoyed ... read more
Day One at Universal Studios
Published: March 29th 2013North America » United States » Florida » OrlandoIt's called "Islands of Adventure" and what an adventure it was. Our initial plan was to gather at Gatorland but because Alan has to head home on Easter, we switched parks so he could go to Universal Studios with us. Gatorland will be sometime next week. We still have two more days of tickets for Universal Studios. I think I will have to get some of that 5 hour energy drink to keep up with this group. Whew! They have so much energy. We arrived at Universal around noon. Needless to say, it was super packed (Spring Break time). It was so crowded that they actually closed the Harry Potter section to any more people when we tried to enter. We had to get a "return" ticket for several hours later in the day when we ... read more

In the words of Dolly Parton: "The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain". Sounds sensible ....aren't we always looking for that special, wonderful rainbow? Today it rained and rained and rained. When it rains in Florida, you know it is raining....the skies open and it really pours down in torrents. Somewhat like being at the bottom of Niagara Falls. Driving is almost impossible....it is scary and dangerous. Today, our rainbow came before the rainstorm. While puttering around the RV and doing the mundane chores.....the colorful couple (just like a rainbow) known as Sam & Sandy came by and wanted to know if we wanted to go to the movies with them. No hesitation here...even though I had not done my hair and looked like the Bag ... read more
Destination: Disney. Our plan was to visit the Disney Boardwalk. It was a bright, sunny, cool day for a stroll along a boardwalk. But wait - something else first caught our eye as we drove through this world unto itself. You could probably drive 100 miles through the beautiful landscapes and still be on Disney property. What a vision Walt Disney had...all originating from just a mouse but what a mouse! Disney has built several new lodging resorts that are supposed to be priced a little more reasonably (it still isn't Motel 6 though) in order to keep its visitors on their grounds. The one that caught our eye that we decided to check out was Pop Century. Its theme portrays the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's.....each decade has its own hotel, pool and extravagant surroundings. ... read more
Yesterday, the highlight of our day was eating at the WORLD 'S Largest McDonald's - located on International Drive right here in Orlando. They sell everything you already know about at McDonald's but then they also sell McDonald's bistro gourmet food and meals.... they advertise it as: "Exceptional chef prepared recipes prepared with loving care for you, blended with the classic McDonald's menu featuring such items as paninis, fresh wraps, delectable desserts, pizzas, award winning pastas and gourmet breakfast". Top that off with the fact that I had a coupon for their pizza free when you bought a bistro sandwich. Cory ordered his favorite San Francisco melt and I got the personal pizza. It all was really tasty! Hooray for McDonalds! Before our "dinner" at Mickey D's, we had walked around the Prime Outlet Mall stores. ... read more
FYI: Today's blog is #100 since I began using this Travel Blog site. Remember when we began our journey out West with a stop over at Red Bay? That was 100 blogs ago. Who would have thought I would have had so much to say....instead of Chatty Cathy, you have followed and endured Loquacious Lulu. It's celebration time! Yipppeee! Yahoooo! Our day began with a trip to a Costco's. We have never been to one. There are none in our area of New York. Actually, they are only located around NYC in our state. They don't provide a day pass so we could only look: no buying....their loss! We were satisfied to realize that it isn't any different than Sam's or BJ's where we do belong. Moving on... When in Florida, what creature do you think ... read more
We took a round-about path to find our place along the Mardi Gras parade route. Early in the day, I told Cory that Mt. Dora (1 hour away...north) was having their arts, craft, flea market show. We went last year and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. So off we sailed. Whoa.....once we arrived in this quaint, lovely town, we discovered there was NO SHOW! Rats! Bummer! Somehow, I wrote down the wrong date....Good Grief. Where can we find a Silver Lining? We meandered through their eclectic shops and bought nothing. Went in a nice Antique Mall and bought nothing. Went to the Renninger's Antique/Flea Market that is open every weekend and stumbled along their slopping hillside...bought nothing. What has happened to us? Buying zip!....not like us. Nothing caught our eye so we are either getting smart or we ... read more
