Monday, we drove over to Bryce canyon. It’s was a good 2 hrs from Cedar city, mind you we took the scenic route. Found a little Indian shop on the way into the Park, bought some cool ornaments. Once at the visitor centre we watched the movie, bought some postcards, and had lunch. As we have missed the peak season by a week, the shuttle service has now stopped. So we got to do a self guided tour. First stop was at sunset point, where we walked down the Navajo trail. What an amazing sight, after walking down the steep hillside of soft red rock. We came to these tall spires called ‘Hoodoos’. Erosion has worn away at them over the thousands of years and left behind these magnificent shaped rocks. All the different colours are ... read more

The winter in Mexico is in the final stages before departure. Right now we are in Tucson, Arizona. The weather is perfect. Hot during the day and cools right off at night. We arrived home from Mexico last Spring April 9th. I almost immediately went back to work and Larry proceeded to get himself healthy. He arrived home from Mexico very short of breath. Left it for a while, but finally went to the Dr. If you know Larry well, you know he only goes to the Dr if he thinks he is dying. He hardly has ever taken an aspirin. I knew when the Dr phoned and said he needed to see Larry that it was serious. No news is good news as far as our Dr is concerned. Larry had worn a Holter Monitor ... read more

We are now in delightful Tucson having a few days break whilst Namibia (our trusty BMW) has some TLC, including a big service and new tires after bringing us 10,000 kilometers. From Glacier National Park, Montana, via going to the sun road, then Yellowstone, Grand Teton and the magnificent bear tooth highway in Wyoming, we continued south through Logan Pass, into Salt Lake City. We then did the big South West circle of national parks and canyons-Bryce Canyon, Capital Reef, Canyonlands, Archers, Monument Valley & Grand Canyon. Stunning, magnificent scenery, a feast for our eyes, and each of them so different. Our romantic dreams of camping out under the stars has been our only dissapointment. We have only camped 4 times since our trip commenced almost 7 weeks ago!- the first time in Tombstone national park ... read more

Not a lot to report today. I woke up, had a snack two cups of coffee a shower and got on the bike.... I stopped in New Mexico to visit a friend and then wound up in Tucson as night fell... I was in the groove and could have ridden longer. As it was I logged 775 miles today. I am glad I stopped. I explored Tucson as I lived here in ...1976... the apt is now a parking garage and no body lI know lives in the houses I knocked at. Bill had some adventures today.. it seems that today was his day to get in jams, that I had to resuce him from... More tomorrow. ... read more

Home sweet home. God I hate that saying. But it is. Yes, I live here, in case you didn't get the amazingly subtle hints. Where to start. Well as far as attractions and sight seeing, you should head to A Mountain, and the Desert Museum. A Mountain is an U of A tradition. It's cool to see. The Desert Museum is for animal lovers, and people who want to see animals they don't often see. It's like your normal outside zoo with a desert twist. There are 4 different mountain ranges on all sides of Tucson. To the north is the Catalinas, the west, the Tucsons, the east, the Rincons, and way to the south, the Santa Ritas. I live closest to the Catalinas. Another attraction to definitely visit is Mt. Lemmon and Summerhaven. It doesn't ... read more

Set of at 6:00 for the 450 miles drive across the desert to Tucson in an attempt to get some of the journey completed in cool conditions. This also meant we got to see Marble Canyon and Vermilion Cliffs changing colour as the sun rose. Luckily by midday, when the temperatures were up in the 40s, we had made it into the mountains and pine forests where it was slightly cooler. After lunch, in a little village called Strawberry, we hit the real desert and just to make sure we knew we were in the desert there were large impressive cacti everywhere. Having got to Tucson we now have 4 days of R&R while the bike is serviced. However me being me after 30 minutes of sitting round the pool I'm fidgety and off to explore ... read more

Greetings, guns 'n ammo fans! We started our journey through the US with the antics of the Alaskan Machine Gun Association, so it seems fitting that we should leave the place with one final display of the instrumentation of mayhem and death courtesy of 'The Boneyard', or the Aircraft Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) as it is properly known. Located in Tucson's South East quarter, this is a massive area of desert dedicated to the storage, recommisioning and decomissioning of over half a century's worth of airborne military hardware. There are over 4,300 planes here in various states, stretching out across the barren sands. Why? There's next to no moisture to cause corrosion, and the desert floor makes an excellent base for towing the things around. Feast your eyes on the following beauties: Around 700 F4 ... read more

So out from Cody and the Rodeo and a dry day to Vernal. More stunning scenary that changes frequently with tiered rock outcrops all at thirty degrees to the horizon, looking like huge slices of cake, lakes and resevoirs, canyons and gorges of terracotta rock. Vernal is another one horse town but the local council obviously decided to spend the entire budget on flowers. A properly hot (38.5C) day as we arrived at Vernal and I was first in the pool at the Dinosaur Inn! Neighbouring rooms were occupied by four guys coming back from the BMW Beartooth Rally. Three were brothers who all lived in different states. Two old air cooled and a couple of vaguely newer bikes. Very nice chaps. Wandered down the road to another (!) local bar with a pool table. Food ... read more

Nothing serious though. Just a 10 mph job in some deep sand. Most importantly, the bike was unmarked. That's the good thing about sand, it doesn't ruin the bike. But if there hadn't been any sand, we wouldn't have fallen off. There's a philosophical conundrum in there somewhere. We were on a dirt road through Monument Valley, having spent a couple of absolutely superb days criss-crossing the arid landscapes of Utah and Colorado on the way down to Arizona. Highlights of these extraordinary states included: Arches National Park, Utah Funny rocks outside of Moab at sunrise. I won't bother trying to explain - check the pictures. Abandoned silver mine workings on Red Mountain, Colorado In true Scooby Doo style - enough said. The cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde, Colorado Educational bit alert! We had never heard ... read more

European Tour 2009 -- August 13 -- We arrive at Frankfurt airport. Travel to Asbach. Unpack and repack for our first road trip. Leave for Rodagau, Germany for pow wow (August 14-16). We'll participate in the pow wow and promote our trading post, Sacred Grounds Trading Post, the only native-owned, authentic trading post in Tucson. (Can I blatantly self-promote commerce on a blog in the hopes that a reader might be interested in checking us out on the web, www.sacredgroundstp.com?) August 21-23 -- Off to the Old West Ranch (somewhere in Germany) for pow wow and festival. August 24 -- On the road to Greece, in a 9 passenger van, pulling a trailer with our "stuff," including mics, amps, lights, camera, action (sorry, got carried away) which we use for performances and pow wows. Since I ... read more
