Terry: Rich, Kim and I talked about our trip. We agreed that we were really glad we came to Egypt. We did manage to cram a lot of things into a short period of time, but hats of to Kim for arranging everything! El Quseir Nice place. Right on the Red Sea. Across that sea is Saudi Arabia. We’re in Egypt. That’s in Africa. We’re a short boat trip from Arabia. All this probably won’t sink in until three weeks after we’re home. I’ve been internet deprived and even though the brochure said wireless access, not. We have such a full day ahead of us. Plan A was to be done with the Valley of the Kings and be on our way to El Quseir, a hotel on the Red Sea where we have reservations for two nights before heading back to London. Due to some river boat snafoos, we are now in Plan B. Plan B is a whirlwind tour of: Colossi of Memnon, Valley of the Kings, Temple of Hatshepsut and Temple of Karnak. It’s Sunday morning … I’m back on track. We’re in Edfu, or ancient Djeba as it was once called. Ahmed tells us we’re going to the Temple of Horus, the falcon headed god. Usually we walk or get in a van. Not this time. Waiting at the dock are horse and buggy after horse and buggy. The buggies are black with silver trim, some decorated more than others. What day is it? I have no clue. Kim tells me this happened on Saturday. Our itinerary was changed, or we missed an excursion, or I’m confused, and since I am now in London, I have no idea what we did when! Yesterday was so busy that I didn’t have time to write. So I’m trying to catch up this afternoon, Sunday, while we are jockeying for position at the only lock on the Nile between Aswan and Luxor. So, yesterday. We had an opportunity to “sleep in” which meant a choice. As breakfast was served between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. and we didn’t have to meet our guide, Ahmed, until 9:00 a.m., did we want to sleep or eat? I slept. By accident. Another long, but exciting day! Up at 6:00 a.m., dragging ourselves to the lobby to check out. Forget breakfast!! It was either sleep more and eat less, or visa versa, and we’re not 20 any more!!! Greetings from Giza! Wow! What a full day we had!!! After a wonderful breakfast buffet, Rich, Kim and I headed out with our driver, Muhammad, our guide who picked us up at the airport, Nuan, and our guide for the day, Suhair. Nuan said goodby at the Cairo Museum and left us in the good hands of Suhair. The drive into Cairo didn't take as long as the drive to the hotel last night. Wow!I slept 12 hours. Kim and I had a busy day ... many errands to run before we leave tomorrow at "o dark hundred" as Kim says. I think we have to leave at 6:30 a.m. and NO later. I'll be up at 6:00 and ready at 6:30 a.m. Low maintenance!! Tomorrow I'll start taking pics and uploading to this blog. We fly to Cairo and should get to the hotel around 5:00 p.m. We have lots of reading material ... all the do's and dont's of traveling in that part of the world.
