I'm a virgin blogger...hoping to create an interesting chronicle of our second "European Tour." These tours enable me to have a different view of the world than the typical tourist/adventurer, which I've been several times in my life. Together with my husband, we will be traveling to pow wows throughout Germany ... and even to Greece. Europe has a subculture of Native American pow wow enthusiasts; we call them hobbyists. Germans, Brits, Czechs, Hungarians and many more hold pow wows throughout Europe. They basically follow the format of pow wows here in the States. They make their own regalia, learn the appropriate steps for the different dances, and form their own pow wow drums. For those of us who follow the pow wow trail in the US and participate as dancers and venders, it is a ... read more

Ken got up around 6:30 and went down to the lobby to get some coffee. He said it tasted dreadful. We have an expresso machine in our RV, so we are spoiled with good coffee. If it isn’t good, we’d rather not have any. He went out to the RV to see if the freezer was still cold. The bag of ice we had in there had just started to melt. The chicken was still frozen. The items in the refrigerator section were still cold, but we threw everything out just in case. There wasn’t much left. He came back up to the room; we took showers and packed up. As he was loading up, I went to the hotel lobby and got some breakfast for us: granola, toast, orange juice. Stopped for gas at Safeway; ... read more

We should be leaving in about an hour.....just need to finish my coffee, take a shower. I really enjoy taking my time in the morning when I don't have to go to work. Our drive to Cottonwood should only take about 3 hours so we don't need to rush. It's supposed to be 110 in Tucson this weekend...it should be a little cooler up north..hopefully!... read more

Blasphemy? Yes and no. It was like this: I spent my 24th birthday at a place called the Meat Rack in Tucson with Alex, my gracious host in town, God and whoever else happened to be around. God gave me the tour of his bar. We started off in his office. In lieu of a desk, he had a medieval rack, where the unlucky victim's head and hands are bound between heavy boards. He had a gynecologist's chair. He had a sex swing. There was no filing cabinet or telephone but there was a buzzer that could be rung from inside to alert the whole bar when whoever might have been unlucky enough to have been seduced into the "office" walked out. A walk of shame buzzer. With a bright red face that reminded me of ... read more

My wife and I have always seen the United States as a nation that provides superior airline service. Our interaction with our countries airlines has been one of comfort, fairness, courtesy and above all SAFETY!! As a consumer we fully understand the need for cash-strapped airlines too create new revenue streams. When does the user say, “enough is enough” to the continuing increase in airlines ancillary revenues? The Desert Oracle has listed some charges the typical traveler may occur that they may see as not-so-typical: 1st checked bag...$15 2nd checked bag...$25 Additional bags...bag 3$125 bag 4$200 Overweight bags...51-70 lbs:$50 71-100 lbs: $100 Oversized bags...62-79 in. $100 80+ $150 Ticket change fee (both domestic and International)$100 on-line otherwise $110 Booking Fees (on phone/in person)$20/$25 Seat Selection $10-$20 for extra leg room Inflig... read more

Today we headed to Tucson, Arizona. Saying it just rolls of the tongue and sounds cool. We made it into Tucson in the late afternoon, got settled in the hotel and relaxed. The next day we went to the Saguaro National Park which consists of both an east and west section seperated by the city. It is situated in the Sonovan Desert it is 91,327 acres and its name comes from the main cactus that are found there, Saguaro. They are the stereotypical American cactus. They were so big and impressive, I was very pleased to see that the national park was preserving them. Farmers would pull them down when clearing the land for agriculture - it was sad. The east side of the park has a scenic loop that went for 9 miles and covered ... read more

In the springtime the desert comes to life! Surprisingly, many animals and plants hibernate throughout the winter even here in the Sonoran Desert. It seems as though one day the ground is brown and barren and the next day the cacti are in full, brightly vivid bloom and the earth is teeming with life. A boring drive down the streets turns into a thrill as you oooh and aaaaah at the splashes of color that nature has strewn about in patches of reds, oranges, yellows and purples. It is such a magical time in the desert! Unfortunately it is not long lived. Before the scorching summer heat sets upon us and kills off most of the flowers (not all, but most) we opted to go on a hike and marvel in the beauty. Just north of ... read more

So I see that my last entry was in October. Wow. Quick updates from there before I get to the present. I'll make this quick. I went to Mexico with a group of friends that are turning out to be my "group" (unfortunately they're spread all throughout Arizona, so it makes consistent hanging out a little difficult). Mexico was an absolute blast! We went to Rocky Point, which is essentially Arizona's Tijuana. Point being - we just drank and spent time on the beach (which was, MAYBE, 100 feet from our room at the resort). It was fantastic. Um, I'm still working at Sunflower Market, not so much the campus coffee shop. I quit because, well, to put it lightly, the owner and manager are two of the most unintelligent people I've ever met. Ever. So ... read more
