Monday ,leaving Houston, the 4th largest city in America behind, we drove up north today to Fort Worth , Texas. We saw a few of the small oil wells, well I think they were. The ones that look like giant hammers going up and down very slowly. They are scattered around the place , but we seem to come across about 20 of them and then no more for awhile. On monday night, Wayne took us for a look around the base where he works. Then we all went ten-pin bowling at the base. 51 lanes, not a bad size bowling centre, sports bar the works. Then we went out for tea after that. We went to a nice chinese buffet restaurant. The highlight of the night was Sophie eating a whole Octopus for $20 bucks. Tuesday, we managed to keep in front of the impending low front system behind us. Got to the McAsey's about 5pm, Theyv'e got very nice neighbours who let us park our trailer beside their house. Wayne was on the ball and had cooked us a very nice dinner. Alysha had left that morning for Vegas , so we took over her room. Nice to have a normal bed for a change. Monday, we drove over to Bryce canyon. It’s was a good 2 hrs from Cedar city, mind you we took the scenic route. Found a little Indian shop on the way into the Park, bought some cool ornaments. Once at the visitor centre we watched the movie, bought some postcards, and had lunch. As we have missed the peak season by a week, the shuttle service has now stopped. Monday, was Columbus day here. A public holiday but only for some schools and some government depts. We packed up in San Diego and drove to Las Vegas. Once we got out of the populated areas we were into rocky dessert areas again then into the Mojave dessert which is a boring rolling hills dessert. We did see some Joshua trees along the way though. Then out in the middle of no where , we came across a little town with a big casino, roller coaster, flashing signs the works. Hello again, Sunday we were up early, made our lunch and off into San Francisco. On the way over the hills to the east of San Fran is this amazing windfarm. We drove through a little piece of it last time but I didn't see all these ones. There had to be over a thousand windmills scattered over the hills and the flats in nice tidy rows of them. Hello, Firstly if you ever wondered why I never put the name of the place we're in, in the title . Monday, we packed up and drove again all day. Nevada really is a state with nothing going for it, no wonder they adopted gambling as there would be nothing here to bring in any economy at all otherwise. After Reno we travelled up and over some more mountains, got stuck in a very long traffic jam due to huge road works. The truck started getting very hot with the AC on, so had to turn that off and open the windows !! Wednesday, we drove just out of Salt Lake City to the Salt Lake. We were planning on going for a swim in it as it has 16% salt in it as apposed to the sea that has 3%. So we got our togs on and trundled off down to the beach. Pooh !!, It stinks, I’m not swimming in that they said !! Yes it wasn’t the nicest smelling place in the world, so we just wading in up to our ankles. Its spose to have small Shrimp in there somewhere but we didn’t see any. Thursday, Today was our 15th Wedding anniversary. At least I bought Kylie a card and some chocolates, Hey were on a trip of a lifetime, what more does she want !! We went for a bike ride around the State Park today, they have real good tracks to ride on. This park had a wildlife Park inside it, not that we saw much. Just rabbits all around our site.
