Trying to work this out for my trip

Travel Blog Posts

This is the End. Well of this blog. There will be more someday, as I hope to find the opportunity again to share my enjoyment with you, my loved ones, my family, my friends and a few strangers I meet along the way in another journey. I hope you found some enjoyment in the post and pictures. Well the last part trip went off fine. I rode the last section of highway 1 in California, turning into the mountains at Leggett. The last ocean view before I head into the trees was truly the color Sea-foam Green. I spot a father and son duo on bikes. The father is riding a Wing pulling a trailer, and the son on a Buell. They were on a trip from the east coast, to the west and back. I ... read more

The air is ripe here. At times the smell of he sea is so thick that you would swear the fog hasn't lifted the blanket of billowy moister that crept in during the night. As I swing inland the aroma changes to sweet strawberry. I desperately wanted a bowl of fresh fruit. There seems to be a whole society in the lush and fertile valleys in California of folks who enjoy fresh fruit and veggies, as most every field there are folks out picking.. some times dozens of them.. They seem to be picking fast and a lot though. Maybe it is some sort of sport here. Soon I am deep into the coast road, and I am thinking that I will be selling the house and moving here. The road is wonderful. It literately sits ... read more

Yesterday was day 30. One month as we count. I am glad Mr. Bill is here as some of you no doubt will wonder how I counted all the way up to 30 with just 20 fingers and toes. The past 2 nights and a full day was spent reconnecting with my niece Jenn and Chris, and getting to know Master Lucas. We went to dinner at Mama Mia’s in Pacific Beach, then to some of there friends house for a “Glee” party. Jenn schooled me about the dogs that would be there so I would know each dogs name… then she told me a little about her friends. Just for the record… I am not a “Glee” fan. I did like the car wash cheerleader dance scene. ;p I took yesterday morning and hugged the ... read more

Tucson was nice. I stayed around this morning to check out the old stomping grounds in the day light, and to replace the motorcycle cover. Mr. Bill just didn’t want to even get out of bed.. He was still reeling after the brush with the Border Patrol. That was day 28 … I think. What I know, it was hot. The temperature topped out at 105. I did stop and break out my cooling vest. A baggie, some ice water and 20 min later ..it’s all cool… I skirted around the border till I felt it necessary to make some time and get out to the coast. I saw the weirdest thing today. Between Yuma and El Centro, as far south as you can get and still be in the good old US of A, while ... read more

Not a lot to report today. I woke up, had a snack two cups of coffee a shower and got on the bike.... I stopped in New Mexico to visit a friend and then wound up in Tucson as night fell... I was in the groove and could have ridden longer. As it was I logged 775 miles today. I am glad I stopped. I explored Tucson as I lived here in ...1976... the apt is now a parking garage and no body lI know lives in the houses I knocked at. Bill had some adventures today.. it seems that today was his day to get in jams, that I had to resuce him from... More tomorrow. ... read more

Today is a bitter sweet day. I neded to get on the road again, (sweet) and that met departing my girl Shelly's home (bitter)... The time I spent with Shelly and her children was far better that I would have dared to hope. Shelly Swesey is a wonderful young woman who loves her children with no limits. She has come through the school of hard knocks and stands on her own two feet with her head held high. I have nothing but love and pride in my heart for her. I would love to chat about her and my relationship with anyone who wishes, but this blog is about the journey... So on we go.,, Leaving Bryan Texas I headed to Waco.. just cuze I like the name.. well storms crowded me around and I stopped ... read more

I opened the door yesterday morning to a boiling brown and black sky. Mr. Bill was uninspired and thought we should stay another day. I convinced him that we had to go. He was still less than enthralled and I had to talk him out of hiding to get back on the bike As I headed north west towards Bryan Texas and Shelly’s home the rain started. I left and headed down a two lane road through rural, and there is a lot of rural, Texas towards the Trinity National Wildlife Refuge (though with out Rev. Bill I don’t know half of what I see) and San Jacinto forest. Soon bolts of lighting were cracking around me… and I thought.. Gee this isn’t good… so I kept on.. I did find a do-do shop on the ... read more

Well I have spent several days with Austin. I am glad to say I am very proud of him. Early on the first day together he inquired " Do I look different?". He did. He does. He is looking like a man today, still my boy, but much more developed, physically and emotionally than when he departed Dec 15, 2008. There were still glimpses of the boy, but more of the man he is becoming. Those of you who are parents, I need not tell you of the changes that our kids progress through. Some, like this one, are hard fought. I also likely don't need to tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days. We spent time in the local area around Biloxi, saw a couple movies, bought some books and I forced ... read more

Well day 9 was a blah day as for the riding. I left the Memphis area eager to see Austin and ran straight down the highway. It was about half divided and half local through small towns. The one thing that was a bit peculiar was that all the rest stops have armed security 24x7, and it is advertised on the signs. I did not stop. I arrived in the Gulfport / Biloxi area and saw Austin for the first time since March. I was and am happy. I feel so lucky to have great kids. I parked on a dock and started calling hotels in the area. Found a nice place on the beach for the next several days. So there won't be much about action on the blog untill I head out, most likely ... read more

Day 8 I awoke in a dingy hotel room, but then I went to sleep in one as well. The bed sucked, and there was no matters pad, just a too small too thin sheet. Alas, that is all a distance nightmare tonight. Four states distance. I started in Missouri, took a bridge into Illinois and another into Tennessee and stopped at the post office and the cross at Fort Jefferson Kentucky. This monument overlooks the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. The photos do not do it justice. The amount of water that flows east of the Continental Divide and into these life givers is daunting to a mere mortal man. There is work beyond man. I pulled into Cairo Illinois. I was heart broken here. This was a wonderful town, full of southern ... read more
