Last night I arrived in Jordan around 7pm. The process of getting into the country was easier than it was to get into Cairo for my layover! We arrived and got our visas, then our bags, and then headed to security. After we went through security, we found our taxi which was waiting for us with a sign in a sea of taxi drivers! We drove through Amman to arrive at ACOR (American Center of Research) where students and archeologist from American can stay at a cheap rate. Upon arriving, we unpacked and met up with other members of our group. I am staying in an apartment with 3 other girls. We got lucky for we got one of the larger apartment suites. We have a living room, dining room, a kitchenette, bathroom, and 2 bedrooms. ... read more

Well I finally arrived in Abu Dhabi last night after a very long journey. I left Kansas City at 2:30pm on Saturday on an earlier flight than I originally planned, so that I could be sure to avoid bad weather and make my connecting flight. Long story short, leaving early was unnecessary as my next two flights were delayed and I arrived in Abu Dhabi at approximately 10:30pm on Monday night (UAE time). The good news is that I spent yesterday in Manchester, England and I ended up running into some ladies from the airport in Philly, they live in KC and one of them used to work for Cerner! Anyway, we had dinner and drinks together and they were so fun…they are going on a tour of the English countryside, visiting places that Jane Austin ... read more

May 12th or is it the 13th My morning started with the traditional Turkish breakfast: cucumber, tomato, many cheeses, toast, boiled eggs, olives, and tea. The Turkish people drink A LOT of tea and coffee. After breakfast I met up with the team at the VW dealership. The owner let us borrow a van for the day. Did I mention that Turkish people drive CRAZY! There is no speed limit, they don’t wear seat belts, and will pull out in front of anyone. Our first stop was at a private school PreK-8. It was SO NICE. The Kindergarteners have their own floor of the school. Each subject has its own room: centers, art, music, nap, Movie Theater, gym, and a room for normal subjects. Each student has an actual bed to sleep in for nap time. ... read more

Tuesday 13th May - Woke up at 8am for hotel breakfast and then caught a cab for a tour of The Mosque - one of the very few that are open for the public to enter and take photos. I found it very informative about Islamic culture and then watched as a muslim prayed before Allah (God). Caught a cab to Jumeirah again, this time to get daylight photos of the Madinat and Burj Al Arab as I was disappointed the ones I took the previous night did not turn out well. Then another cab across to the Mall or Emirates - The biggest shopping complex I have ever seen which houses an indoor ski centre. Bought a pair of Arnette sunglasses and then chatted to an American girl who has been living in Dubai for ... read more

Today we left Ft. Hood on our great eastward journey. We left for the airfield about 1700. When we got to the airfield we had a briefing on Anti Terrorism which seemed odd as everyone on the plane had a rifle or pistol, and a knife. After the briefing we had dinner, a sandwich and chips. The USO, Salvation Army, adn some churches had many offerings. The USO had snacks, drinks, and gum. The Salvation Army had toiletries and chapstick - they also offered to send our mail home for free. I wrote letters to my family and sent a singing card to Lizzie. We soon boarded our plane, a DC 10. It was a bare bones 1960 era aircraft. The intercom was broken so the flight attendant used a bull horn. We flew to a ... read more

5-13-08 Corlu to Ederine Our morning started off with a trip the farm of friends of a Rotarian. The countryside was beautiful and relaxing. The main crops were sunflower (to make sunflower oil), canola, and rice. There much more farmland than in the states. People live in high-rise apartyments rather than individual houses. This allows for much more farming. The house (we would say apartment) that I stayed in was constructed by my host family’s company. I think they were the contractor/owner… I’m not sure. They said that all of them were sold except 56 units. Anyway, back to the farm. The house keeper was from Bulgaria, so she made Bulgarian coffee for us and served us watermelon. We are now on our way to Ederine. It should take about an hour and a half. On ... read more

So after leaving here I went and met up with Jillian and went to a cafe where there is a 'traditional' Arabic storyteller. Met up with Tiana (Finnish) and Pascal. It was very dramatic though I dont really know what was going on - lots of loud bangs and teary eyes being made!! We then went for supper up the road from the hotel and I was starving! It was a selection of Mezze but they were not traditional we had a couple of dips, jacket potatoes and other veges in a tomatoey sauce, Aubergines and so on - yummy!! Went to bed and woke up ready for my monastic adventure!! Packed a small bag and bought some food for a picnic lunch. Jillian and I then got a taxi to the bus station where we ... read more

Hello Everyone. Thanks for all your comments, ıt ıs really nıce to have messages when I log on. So yesterday was a busy day. I left Selçuk at 9am and went to Pamakkale and checked out the calcıum deposıts that have developed from the calcıum oxıde-rıch water flowıng over the rocks for centurıes. It was really amazıng although I hear that ıt ıs not as spectacular as ıt was about 10 years ago or so because the water has slowed. There was also some more ruıns there. Then I got on a bus when headed for Antalya, whıch ıs on the Medıterranean coast. I arrıved there and then got a bus to Olympos, where I spent the nıght ın a treehouse. there was lots of nıce people here and we sat around a campfıre and had ... read more
