Vanaf ... read more

Salaam all. This is about that time when I update my blog, when it is way overdue and most have forgotten about it. In this episode I will detail my many adventures over Spring Break/Passover Vacation (April 11th-April 26th). Immediately after my vacation began, at 6:00 AM Friday, April 11th, I set for the Sea-to-Sea Hike, a four-day trek from the Mediterranean Sea (Yam haTichon) to the Sea of Galilee (haKineret). The first day we drove up to a spot on the coast just north of Haifa, then walked in a large circle, up a few hills, and viewed a Crusades-era coastle, before making our way to a hotel for Shabbat dinner. It was actually quite a nice hotel, with our room furnished for seven, and one of those big, jacuzzi-type bathtubs. After a lovely dinner, ... read more

5/10/08 1:12 PM I have to say that at the moment I have mixed emotions about leaving. It seems surreal… in a matter of hours I will be an ocean away from my family and friends. Going so far away for an extended amount of time is a first for me. I am going with a great group of women from Thibodeaux, LA who will become my new friends and we will be each other’s family for the duration of the trip. I’m sure we will have our ups and downs, but overall it will be a WONDERFUL trip. Well after a somewhat hectic start we made it on the plane. ALL of our baggage was overweight, so we had to make some quick modifications to accommodate the weight limit of 50 pounds or less. When ... read more

Somewhere in the Middle East, south of the Dead Sea, on the edge of the Jordanian desert, hidden and surrounded by a ring of mountains, is a place unique and bizarre, a city carved into the rocks, a wonderland of temples, tombs and caves. Even though its life, colours and structure are long fallen to dust, its magic stayed alive throughout the centuries and legend became mystery, and one of the strangest, most fascinating places in the world... or how a poet once said: "Match me such a marvel, save in Eastern clime, a rose-red city, half as old as time...!" ...Petra! - The Kingdom of Jordan or the land of wonders - All travellers on the popular landroute Istanbul-Cairo or the other way around will have to pass through the Kingdom of Jordan. This one will be short and quick but i thought everyone should know whats going on. We played Friday night for a chance to go to the finals. Our opponent was the only team that we had not beaten and the guys had a bad history of falling apart against them. Diego and I had talked before the match and came to the conclusion that it was going to be up to us if we were to win. The first set went to us mainly because of Diego's play. The second set was a sea-saw battle and when the score hit 19-19 Diego went up for a block and came down hard on the opponents foot. He immediately collapsed and began to yell in pain. I have been around this sport for a long time now ... read more

HAHA That got your attentıon! Well not exactly, but I purchased an 80 cent weddıng (-lookıng) rıng as an attempt to deter the eager Turkısh men from harrassıng me. Im already tıred of the proposıtıons so hopefully thıs should help. Troy was amazıng! It was so cool to see the remaıns of a cıty that was buılt about 4500 years ago. There were 9 layers of cıty that were buılt over one another. It was a 30 mınute bus rıde from Cannakale to Troy, and ıt was so peaceful and beautıful at the ruıns. It was really cool to see that they had terracotta pıpıng over 4000 years ago...ıt really says somethıng about how advanced theır cıvılızatıon was. After checkıng out Troy, Wendy (Waterloo, Chınese Canadıan) and I had a great Turkısh lunch wıth lentıl soup, ... read more

Back in the Holy Land for the first time in 10 years, and it was definitely worth the trip to come out and see Alan, even if just for a few days. While I did not really do a whole lot of sightseeing, I had a great chance to spend time with a very good friend of mine while celebrating Yom Ha'Atzmaut in Tel Aviv. I even got a chance to see me cousin - and meet her husband for the first time. As with just about everywhere else I go, this visit was too short, but I guess that is even more of a reason to go back. Wednesday, May 7th: After a pretty easy flight from Barcelona (and dealing with the very thorough Israeli security) I made it to Ben Gurion Airport and caught ... read more

We left Goreme at about 9:00 for our first day of solo riding with the Turkish capital of Ankara as our destination. The ride itself was pretty unremarkable, a few stretches of scenery, but mostly farmland. We crossed a few patches of rain about half way through, but it did not last more than 10 minutes in total. At one point, being low on fuel, we ventured into a village in search of a service station. At one quasi deserted intersection, I asked the only man in sight if he knew where we could find fuel. I accomplished by pointing at my bike’s tank and saying ''benzene'', the Turkish word for fuel. The man pointed to our right, showed 2 fingers and said ''kilometre''. We thanked him and I proceeded to make the right turn. After ... read more

580 km's in totaal. Aangezien onze spullen pas vrijdag aankomen mogen wij tijdelijk in een geweldig huis verblijven. Zie foto's. So following the last entry I returned to the hotel where I met Peter he had just arrived in Damascus and was here for only one day. Went out for supper close by the hotel and whilst it was really quite nice it was a bit bland - rice with chicken that looked pretty unappatizing for 125 SYP though you can't complain. Met up with Peter as I went into the hotel and as he hadn't eaten I accompanied him much to my annoyance though as he found a restaurant which appeared to be serving the yummiest barbequed meat as I drank my water I felt quiet envious of him!!! Friday morning I woke with my first bout of food poisoning not to fun and after Breakfast I had to move rooms - this time I'm ... read more
