Ciao! "It's raining nuns Hallejulah It's raining nuns Amen" In all my life, I don't think I've ever seen so many nuns (or priests) in one place - ever!! Everywhere I looked, nuns were everywhere and for a moment, I wondered if I was an extra in the movie 'Sister Act', only I didn't see Woophi or have the right outfit on... Can't say that Rome is my favourite place in Italy but after soaking up the sun rays with temperatures of 32C yesterday, I think I was slowly starting to warm to the place, but 1 or 2 days is definitely enough there. I did all the sights - Patheon (saw Clive Own filming a movie and apparently Julia Roberts was there earlier on), chilled out on the Spainish steps and at Trevi fountain and ... read more

Nu is ... read more

Ah Madrid...i got in from Barcelona on the high speed train to a rainy Sunday. I had some tapas and beer while the rain died down and i traveled to my hostel in Puerta Del Sol, right in the center of the city (for 35 euros a night and i had my own room!). It was a gay hostel, but really catered to whoever...it had the most ecclectic clientele of any of the hostels i'd been at- and was the nicest. Exhausted still from Barcelona, i took a disco nap before heading to what would be the most fantastic party i attended in Europe!!! I arrived to Space of Sound (without a ticket) around 6 pm (the party started at noon). They were sold out of tickets because it was some sort of anniversary party. Luckily ... read more

They say getting there is half the fun... but today it was wet and the only way of getting to the castle (25km South of Odense) if you're not one of the grey-hair brigade on an air-conditioned tour bus is to take the train. The problem is that the nearest station is about 3km away. It was worth the walk though. The castle is Denmarks best-preserved castle and dates back around 500 years. Inside we saw many many interesting and unusual weapons and some very interesting furnishings, including a very ornate dolls house. Outside there was an extensive car and motor-cycle museum, a large hedge-maze, and a tree-top swing-bridge walk. The best part was that once we got outside we had the place to ourselves because the oldies didn't want to get wet and the younger ... read more

Lisbon Arrived here right on time at Noon on Thursday, May 22. Since we were not going to disembark until the next morning, we opted to take one last excursion and were glad we did because the weather which had been perfect for the entire trip, turned cold and rainy. The first stop was Queluz, the Summer Palace for Queen Mary I. It was a nice tour but nothing exceptional and typical of the palaces we have seen in the past. Next was the old town of Sintra which is in the National Park and is quite charming. They boast of the second oldest Hotel in Europe, The Lawrence where Lord Byron often stayed and wrote one of his novels. Lots of narrow windy streets and cute shops and definitely would have enjoyed spending more time ... read more

Well only 34 days to go before we set off on our trip. Obviously things are hectic at the moment as we finalise things but at least we can now see light at the end of the tunnel - at long last. Although this trip has been our dream for the last 5 years the reality of what we are about to embark on has only really hit us over the last few months. People have asked us if we are looking forward to our holiday! This trip however is not really a holiday. Not knowing where you are going to sleep each night cannot exactly be classed as a normal holiday. Likewise, being on the road for over a year will be both a physical and mental challenge. Nevertheless we are both up for the ... read more

Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Chipiona May 26th 2008

After a couple days of rest and meeting family, we went to watch a bullfight in San Lucar de Barrameda, near Chipiona. I had never been to one, so I was anxious to see what it was like. Tickets were a bit more expensive than we expected, at 35 Euros each... for almost the cheapest seats. After a brief wait, during which we watched the horses and bull out back, and move further from the band that was right behind us, it began. First an announcer came out to announce the fight and introduce the judge (I think), then the three bullfighters and their entourage paraded in. This was a bullfight from horseback instead of on foot. After the parade, began the first of six bullfights. Each caballero would fight two bulls, one in each... round. ... read more

Guten Tag, Just a quick message to say that I have met my tour group and they are great. Mostly from Western Canada and the US and a couple from Australia. My roommate is from Alberta, her name is Jacklyn. Last night we had a great night over dinner at a brewery and I had a little bit of local beer. Tasted good. This morning we got a guided tour which was great. I have definitelz seen a lot but not all the places where we were taken too. This afternoon I went to walk the grounds at the Schonbrunn summer palace. Beautiful. Tonight myself, Jacklyn and Tracy are going to the ballet... should be fun. Off to the Czech Republic in the morning. Love to you all. Thanks Katie... I am thinking about the book ... read more

Three weeks to go Ok so now I have started counting down the days until I leave my job for good. I have 3 weeks of work (15 shifts to be exact) left until mum flys to Paris and we go to Florence! As my time in Paris is drawing to a close though i've started to manically do all the things that I've been wanting to do since I first arrived here, but just never got around to for some reason or another. I must say though, the change in the weather has definately helped me be more pro-active in seeing Paris' sights again. This weekend my friend Esther from Holland came to visit me and fortunatley with her came great weather! She arrived friday evening, and i was fortunate enough to get work off ... read more

**First: i want to mention for those of you who may have missed the transition.....and you probably missed it because i made no transition in my writing........between dance and baseball. I arrived here in Kaunas two weeks ago to play three weeks with the team. For the moment we have finished with rehearsals, and do not pick up the work until september when we rehearse and then premier in the US. So for several months you will be hearing mostly about baseball, about me and my ponderings on life, and about South Africa (where Viktorija and I will be in one week!!)........... Saturday: first game of the weekend series. We left for the game on this rainy and coldy day. Arriving at the stadium in Vilnius, we see that the stadium is completely wet.
