Last weekend off in Paris Well, I have just spent my last two days in Paris when I don't have work doing what I do best, running around visiting sights and ppl and taking tonnes of photos! Wednesday and Thursday were my two days off for the week, and they were one after the other, just like a real weekend! So very exciting for anyone working at the hostel! As i'm off about exploring from the end of next week this past week has really been my last week to go about paris and do those last few things that I still hadn't gotten around too. Going to Versaille is one of those things. Wednesday started early for me, I finished my tuesday night shift by 2:30 and was in bed by 3am waiting for my ... read more

Three weeks to go Ok so now I have started counting down the days until I leave my job for good. I have 3 weeks of work (15 shifts to be exact) left until mum flys to Paris and we go to Florence! As my time in Paris is drawing to a close though i've started to manically do all the things that I've been wanting to do since I first arrived here, but just never got around to for some reason or another. I must say though, the change in the weather has definately helped me be more pro-active in seeing Paris' sights again. This weekend my friend Esther from Holland came to visit me and fortunatley with her came great weather! She arrived friday evening, and i was fortunate enough to get work off ... read more

Opening week at the Hostel Righty so i though i should probably put up an update as its been soooo long since ive wirtten anything First things first there is a reason for the long pause and thats because WE'VE OPENED!!! finally the hostel is up and running!! this has made everyone both happy and realeaved as well and mighty cranky and pissed off. This being because *Staff have had to move rooms 2/3 times in the past week as our 'staff rooms' where already booked *The hot water for the showers is very tempermental and generally decides not to work *The lift doesnt work (I live, now, on the 5th floor) good work out for me but crap for hostellers on the 6th floor with luggage *The reception desk is tiny so its a mess ... read more

General Goings on Ok so i've been in Paris working now for a couple of week and as per dads request i am writing up a lil blog. So far everything has been going well. Unfortunately though we still arent open. This is starting to really annoy everyone as we're now just sitting around waiting for the securtiy commision to come and visit us and give us the go ahead. We've done a couple of run throughs in the restaurant now the first one went completely to pot but the second one which we just did this morning went off really well, me and helene even got a 10 euro tip! Hmm Australia Day happened, that was good fun, I went to a new Cafe Oz in Paris on the Grands Boulevard, it was so ... read more

First week of Work Wow. I have had the most amazingly intense week ever. It all started on Monday the 14th of January at 10am. All the new staff had our first day of work, and I also was ment to be moving in. Unfortunately though, work hadn't been progressing on the site as had been hoped and I wasn't able to move in. More of that later. So the day started with us early birds going for a coffee whilst we waited for everyone to arrive. Then into the restaurant for a welcome speech and a video and powerpoint presentation on the hostel, its background, who they are and so on and so forth. Half of us are 'english' and the other half french. This is pretty much denoted by our first language as ... read more

Christmas in England Well what can I say. England is just what you imagined, especially if you imagined the countryside like something straight from a Jane Austin novel! Absolutely stunning. But anyways, I arrived in england on the 22nd of December '07 after a 2 hour train trip to paris followed by another couple of trains to the eurostar station and then the 2 hour euro star trip followed by an hour trip from kings cross to cambridge. Lets just say I arrived knackered and laden down with all the things I'd accumulated whilst in Dijon as well as christmas and birthday presents. Once i'd met my grandparents in Cambridge we drove down to their new place, it's really cute and I don't know what grandma's going on about when she says its too small! Nonsense! ... read more

Last month in Dijon Well, what a month december was, it jsut seemed to fly by for me. Everything was potential last time things to do in Dijon. People were gradually leaving to return home. And above all Christmas Hype started to hit, the christmas lights were turned on, might ahve already mentioned this... the ice rink opened and everyone started to feel festive. The past couple of weeks have been even more hectic though as we've had exams to study for as well as doing all my christmas shopping, finding gifts for my flatmates as well as some friends from ESC. Exam study went well... it wasnt very productive though as me adn Paige spent most of our study time in Grand Cafe... we started with coffee and then graduated to Monacos (pink beer!) so ... read more

Been in France too long when... 1.You respond to questions by shrugging your shoulders&blowing a raspberry. 2.You panic when u cant find a machine to composter your billet 3.You are surprised that shops are open over lunch.. 4...and for more than 3days a week 5.You wouldn’t dare wear a skirt on a night out 6.You find yourself grumbling about the quality of bread & refuse to buy baguettes here. 7.You forget u can now ask a shop assistant for assistance 8.an evening spent in a newsagent with a bar in it sounds like a great night out 9.You don't laugh at the name Fanny 10.Instead of the latest Little Britain quotes, you&your friends are asking where Jenny is 11.You find it strange people calling u by ur real name(i.e aoife, not awoof) 12.You wish u could have a ... read more

Turning on the Lights Well this week has been an eventful one, which comes as a shock to me as from the outlook I thought it was going to be a borning one wiht nothing happening. Monday and Tuesday were normal enough day, had a surprise essay in one class and then spent hours on skype chatting to Megan as well as mum and dad. Wednesday night was my beckon as we'd organised a girls night of pizza and drinks with movies! Margaux, Tara, Kelsey, Paige and I ended up eating sans esther as she was sick and couldnt stop vomiting?! But after a day of rest she was all better Then Thursday night there was a small party at Gallways which I was contemplating going to with some of the girls when I got invited ... read more
