Today is the first day off. I woke up with a phone call from my parents which is always nice. Apparently they got a new tv!! Then I basically got ready and spent my time on the computer talking to people and doing my readings for next week. Afterwards, some of us went to the train station to buy tickets for Vienna. I'm not going yet because I just don't feel up to it. Maybe I'll go in June. After buying the train tickets we walked around Wenceslas Square which is a very expensive area in Prague. It has lots of shops. We found a cheap place to eat and had some really good food. I had a jacket potatoe. Then we basically just walked and walked and walked. After a while Melody, Jessica and I ... read more

Today was a pretty relaxing day. Basically we just went to our film class in the morning which was okay. We watched a really old film on the holocaust. It was the first narrative film made on the holocaust, in black and white and hardly any speaking at all, and very large gestures. Then I went and bought a book for my literature class and Nathalie and I went grocery shopping where I found water that actually tastes good! I watched a hindi movie online and basically spent the rest of the day hanging out at the Kolej and just relaxing.... read more

Friday May 12, 2006 Even a Mistake Is Not a Mistake in Prague Today was a bright, sun-filled beautiful spring day with a nice warm temperature, a good day or evening for a long walk. So, Nancy and I decided to head out this evening for a nice walk through the Royal Gardens. We figured the flowers should be beautiful and we always enjoy the view up the Vltava River from the lower end of the gardens. Our plan was to catch our favorite Tram, No. 20, get off at Kralovsky Letohradek, the stop that is a short walk away from the lower end of the Royal Gardens. That was our plan. However, as the tram neared the stop the driver slowed, but did not stop. I had not realized this is one stop where a ... read more

Today was not a very good day. I think the jet lag has finally caught up with me. So we went to our language class today and learned numbers. It was good, I got pretty far in the numbers game we played. I was 5th. Then we had our art history class. Again we walked around and went to two art galleries to see paintings and pictures. I was so tired by this time that I decided to come home on the tram and have some of the leftover fried rice. I got home and basically just fell asleep on my bed at 4. I didn't wake up until eleven at night. Jessica and Nathalie came in at that time because apparently everyone had gone out. Nathalie said she had made dinner and had tried to ... read more

A smooth train ride went quickly and before we knew it, we were in Prague just as daylight was fading. A mad dash to get to the offices of Old Town Apartments before 9pm was not quite made but we were OK and after much dragging of the suitcase through the cobbled streets, we made it to our massive apartment at 10:30pm. The next morning we hit the ground running and went to the main attraction – Prague Castle. Taking about 4 hours to do, there was an incredible amount to see in the castle rich with history back to 2,500BC and the capital of many European empires through the ages. The massive gothic Cathedral and huge Royal Palace were the highlights. A quick lunch before down to the glorious old town across the incredible George ... read more

So we were basically in class all day today. First class was Czech language. It's like being back in french class in grade 8. We learned some simple phrases just so we can actually communicate some simple things around here like 'thank you', 'hello' and stuff. Then we had a break and then Samir's class. It was intense. Just like the classes at SFU. I really felt like I was at SFU at one point until I looked out the window and saw the amazing view of the city and realized 'no wait, i'm in prague!!' It was kind of an interesting feeling. Then we had a break and we had some food in the university cafeteria. The lady was so fast and I was so intimidated that I just pointed at the first thing i ... read more

So I got up at 5 am!! LOL....I was soo proud of myself. I took a shower, did paath, it was great. The light in this room comes in so bright it is pretty much impossible to sleep. There is no point. So the breakfast here isn't that bad, it actually lasts me until quite late in the afternoon before I start feeling hungry. So we spent the day walking around town and learning things like where the english bookstore is and just some other practical stuff. Then we went on the metro! The escalators here are so fast that you have to jump onto them just to get on and then they pretty much just throw you off. I almost fell a couple of times getting on and off. So we went to Andel which ... read more

Well the plane ride was awful!! The flight was delayed from Vancouver to Frankfurt so we missed our connecting flight at the Frankfurt airport and had to wait for a few hours before we could get on another plane. Then when we reached Prague two people lost their luggage so there was more waiting. Well, anyway, I was much too tired to really care about what was going on. On the flight from Vancouver to Frankfurt after about four hours my legs had a searing pain going through them and they felt so swollen. Even my normally comfortably loose shoes felt tight but the in flight movie was "Fun with dick and Jane" which was okay albeit a little boring. The food was disgusting and the smell made me nauseated even though I ate some anyway. ... read more

One Phrase. I'm in a life like Fairytale Town. I caught a 4 hour bus from Prague; the cultural hub of Czech Republic to a small town near the Austria border known as Cesky Krumlov. The only reason I headed down this way is because the rather good looking girl who was working at the hostel in Prague said she said it was the most beatiful place in the world and she has a friend who works in a hostel down here and will 'hook me up for a good time'. Anyways after arriving here at about 7pm I walk into the town centre and my first impressions are wow. This place is like made out of gingerbread. Well not really but imagine the how the gingerbread house in the fairytale looks. Well this whole town ... read more
