Hey guys. Im still in prague, but we are leaving in the morning to go to munich..it was a last min decision we made. It was pretty chilly-rainy-snowing here today, so we have decided to head on. Prague is a beautiful city...my favorite so far, but its time to go on. We will only be in munich for a couple of days and then off to zurich. I will be sure to elaborate more on Prague when I have more time on the computer, but I think that the people here at the hostel are tired of emily and I checking our email-looking for hostels, etc. I will be sure to write more later. Sorry i cant now. Please pray for my health. I do not have a fever any longer, but I have a sore ... read more

When we first arrived in Krakow, we took a quick walk around the Old Town, simply trying to find the Cubs ESPN game on a television. When predictably rebuffed, we planned on finishing our Guinness, heading to a supermarket, and making it an early evening. We swear. But then the bar filled up, and a group of Brits sat at our table, eagerly anticipating the Arsenal / Juvantus playoff match. Next thing we knew, we were at a really bad Polish dance club, sipping vodka and apple juice, discussing writing and debating whether Britain or America was more multi-cultural. So much for good intentions. The next day, Chris got hit with a pretty bad case of the sniffles. Hey everyone. I am finally in Prague. I have not been able to see too much of it yet because i have been pretty sick. Friday night we spent the night in the zurich airport. we flew out at 7 am that next morning. Trying to sleep on a cold marble floor, or a cold metal chair while you keep on switching from freezing cold to sweating cause of a fever is not fun. I dont think that I would have enjoyed it even if i was feeling well. Emily, who i am traveling with, is all about being super cheap. No, i do not like to spend a lot of money, but i like comfort. So maybe i am spoiled a little. My parents found a very nice hotel for us to stay in last ... read more

Today we leave the city that we have spent the most time in apart from New York. At once it feels like we have been here forever and that we have just arrived. The past few day we have managed to keep the delicate balance of being productive during the day while enjoying the local brews during the night. The day after I last write, Pudd headed out with our mates from Wisconsin while I did a walking tour of Prague that focussed on the Communist era, basically post-World War II. It was a bitterly cold day so the tour was only myself and and an old American Professor who had come to Prague to teach Jewish Mysticism, he had quite a few interesting questions to ask. The tour basically talked about the era as one ... read more

The theological library of Charles University here in Prague is housed in an old gymnasium that was used during World War II by the Nazis. As we walked around the library I noticed three large pieces of relief artwork. Not knowing, at that time, of the Nazis use of the building I assumed the artwork had been done during the Czech era of Communism. I asked about the relief panels and learned of the connection. One of the librarians said, “They probably are by the Nazis. There are swastika on the tiled floor, but they have been covered with carpet. I do not think there is any question as to why the swastikas were carpeted over. That certainly was not a happy era in the Czech Republic. Nancy--The idea of a library in a gymnasium is ... read more

The Association of British Theological and Philosophical Libraries is holding its annual convention at IBTS and Nancy and I have joined the group. They are celebrating the association's 50th anniversary this year. To celebrate this anniversary, the decision was made that this year the convention would concentrate on "having fun," rather than holding lots of meetings. Would that more meetings and conventions concentrated on having fun rather than scheduling long butt and mind numbing meetings. After lunch today, Nancy and I joined the group for a tour of the Czech National Library and the Clementinum. The panorama pictures were all taken from the top of the astronomical observation tower of this ancient building. Since it was such a beautiful day it was the perfect chance to climb the many steps to the observation platform and take ... read more

So... to top off our spring break. we made our way to prague. Where you can live like a king. Well, not really but everything is sooo cheap you will really feel like you are rich in this city. The entire city is gothic.....and i was amazed at how beautiful the buildings still stand. After all that this city has been through, it still remains one of the most beautiful in all of europe. The entire time i was there, i had to keep pinching myself to make sure i wasnt dreaming. it was amazing. see for yourself, i could not stop taking pictures... read more

Prague, as well being the capital of the newly formed Czech Republic, is also the capital of Central Bohemia. Bohemia is an historical region within the Czech republic. So when someones says "That's very bohemian" or "the bohemian end of chapel street", it is this region that they are referring to. It is said that quite a number of artists, intellectuals and non-conformists inhabited this area in the past, hence why the term has the meaning it has today in western culture. Since I last wrote we have seen and done a great deal within Prague, and outside of it. The other night we stumbled upon the best Czech restuarant in the history of the world (Well we think so atleast). Apart from the outstanding food this restuarant offers, it survives despite heavy opposition from well, ... read more

Prague is one of the most beautiful Cities that I have seen. It is due to the fact that war really never was a factor, well to the point of destruction. They liked to give up a lot, so when an enemy tried to take them over, they really didn’t put up a large fight. Trey said that the Czech Republic have had more independence in the last 100 years than the all the years before that. We arrived with slight nervousness because we really didn’t know where trey’s dad was staying and trey hadn’t gotten a hold of him in the past couple of days to let him know when we were getting there, but that really didn’t matter because we didn’t know when we were getting there until we got to the train station ... read more
