Guten Tag!! The last few days since arriving in Prague have been awesome. Prague is such a beatiful city. It has a fairytale feel to it and walking along its streets just makes you all fuzzy inside. So many churches, religion is a big part of the culture here... another big thing here is a wee thing called scamming. Yeh I've been done for the first time on my trip. Then I got done again. The train ride over was awesometude as I covered in last blog! Anyways when I got off the train I should have recieved 2 grand change for a bread roll and only recieved 1 but didnt know till i got home. Not to bad as it translates to about $100 haha. The other time I lost another grand unknowingly and still ... read more

Geo: 50.0878, 14.4205Today was another day of driving. It didn't take us long to get to the Austrian/Czech border. In no-mans land there was a dragon/castle/knights themed buildings. So we stopped and did some duty free shopping for our cocktail party. Watched and slept through more movies until we arrived at our campsite.... read more

None of us really know the future and though we would like to return here again next year or at some point in the future that is not a certainty. Life can change so quickly, like last October when Bill completely cut his quad muscle when he "dove" off the ladder while pruning the apple trees in our back yard. Having this in mind, Bill decided to go round the campus taking pictures of various buildings and places so we can refresh our memories. We humans forget so much and photographs bring back many memories that would be utterly lost otherwise. The campus is divided into a lower level and an upper level. The older buildings are all on the lower level. These are the buildings that are several hundred years old and have seen many ... read more

Moragh is Welsh for Mary. Moragh is from England and teaches at the Riverside International School here in Prague. She is not an uptight Brit, but rather an enthuasistic young woman with a quick smile and a quick laugh. Nancy- Let's face it we both love Moragh! We were invited to her "Moragh is 30" birthday party. It was such fun with so many people there who live in the different worlds she inhabits-Work, Church, Seminary Community. We all enjoyed each other and the food and drink and talk and laughter. Hurrah for Moragh! The Clarks hosted the evening and with the help of the Nichols who did catering for them showed everyone what a good party the Scots can throw.... read more

Prague is like waking up in a hazy, dreamy fog. Meg and I spent most of yesterday wandering along the winding cobblestones and On the (good) advice of a friend, we caught Vivaldi's Four Seasons in a tiny, lovely little cathedral at the top of the hill. Asya, who I met in Moscow last summer, is one of the great loves of my life. Shes doing a semester in Paris, so we managed to book some time together to catch up and such. She came up with her friend Emma, and the four of us took to the park and tossed through the hours with cheap cartons of wine. We later stumbled upon this fantastic beer garden with great views of the city-scape and chatted up some locals. Ive been thinking about how we create and ... read more

One of the things I really enjoy in these northern latitudes is the quality of light in the mornings and evenings. The morning and evening light are absolutely beautiful and both always wonderful times of day to take pictures. Colors are more intense and the long shadows add contrast and interest to the photos. Nancy and I enjoy walking up the Sarka Valley and it is UP with the babbling brook flowing the opposite direction. It is interesting to watch the valley change with the changing seasons. Here, the summers are shorter than back home. The plants have to hurry here and they seem to simply explode out of the ground in their rush to grow, bloom and reproduce before the long winter season sets in again and they rest until the spring rush arrives once ... read more

This semester there has been a group of college students here from Christopher Newport University studying European government, culture and economy. Nancy and I have enjoyed becoming friends with many of these young people. Their class work ended early this week and today most of them flew home to the states. From my conversations with these young people they all said it was a good semester. They worked and played and had a great time in this beautiful city. A number said they plan to return to Prague to work on their master degrees after graduating from Christopher Newport. A little travel gives a big education and changes the traveler's views and understanding of the world. Home is home and a wonderful place and most travelers look forward to returning there, but they return a different ... read more

This train trip was hilarious. Mr Canada was telling me tips on how to A) get the best cabin and B) get a second class cabin to myself. The solution... Make the cabin as messy.. as slobby and as horrible as possible so that when other passengers come to sit in your cabin at the beggining of the trip they get deterred by the prospect of sitting with crazy backpackers. For us this meant taking all the dirty washing out and hanging it on the windows and on the seats. Taking our shirts off and hanging them on the door and having food and drink scattered everywhere. The expression of shock on peoples faces when they went to enter the cabin then saw who they would be seated with was priceles. Was the funniest thing to ... read more

My Czech family took Carrie and me skiing to a place by Poland. It was soo much fun. Though I was definately rusty with the skis, it had been too long. The 7 and 13 year olds were much better then me. It was also really cold at the summit but became much better as we made our way down. The slope was really long and had trails along the way one could choose to go on. So we only went up on the chair lift 4 times though we skied for awhile. The Czech mom was cute and brought lunch and tea and a really yummy desert for us. All the kids are soo well behaved. For the 2 hour car ride they were practically silent, it amazed me how well behaved they are. We ... read more

It is so beautiful outside; the trees are green and the flowers are in bloom. This is not Prague. Prague is cold and gray. I have to keep telling myself that I’m in Prague it's so different now with birds singing and being able to wear a shirt during the day. Everything looks so different. Right now I am on my balcony, this is the first time I’ve been able to just sit out here. It’s sad that now it is finally getting nice, I leave in a few weeks. Man do I appreciate this good weather, when I am in class and look outside and see a sunny sky all I want to do is be outside. Unfortunately now I have to do all my work. Some of my classes only have one test or ... read more
