For the final time we packed up our tents and ate one last breakfast before we jumped aboard the bus and headed back to London. During the final bus journey back we thanked the crew for an amazing trip and filled out customer satisfaction surveys which Jamie handed out. It was an amazing trip and we loved every minute of it, any negative points were all related to our tour leader Jamie. We eventually returned to Calais where we were to catch another ferry across the English Channel. We went through immigration and boarded the ferry. For most of the time we sat around had chatted about what we were all doing once we got back, most of us were so tired and one by one we fell asleep. I woke shortly after, grabbed the camera ... read more

It was tough to get up this morning, I would have done anything to sleep in, but even though it was our free day, we had to be in town for 9AM for a bike ride. After having hardly any time to get ready and a quick breakfast we were on our way into the city. Billy dropped us off and we followed Jamie to the bike tour place. We were warned earlier that you must be able to ride competently as the tour guides can get quite angry. Jamie was so concerned that we would be late, and they would cancel it altogether, he started to run ahead to let them know we were on our way. Eventually we arrived had a quick briefing of what we were doing then we were each given a ... read more

Woke up this morning pack our tents and had breakfast before packing the coach and setting off quite early. Today was another long driving day. We spent most of the entire day driving through Germany and The Netherlands, to Amsterdam. We had a tasty lunch stop and the usual toilet break stops as we got closer to Amsterdam. When we were just outside the city we stopped off at a farm which produced two things Amsterdam was famous for, cheese & clogs. We had a brief tour by a couple of guys who were totally high off their face, it was then we knew we were in Amsterdam. He gave us a brief explanation of how they made their cheese, gave out a few samples then we were shown how they made wooden clogs in the ... read more

Europe » Germany » Berlin » Berlin August 26th 2008

Today was our free day in Berlin and most of the group had chosen to do the optional guided tour around the World War I & II historical sights. We got ready and were dropped off at Checkpoint Charlie where we walked to meet our guide. The guide introduced himself as we began walking around the streets on Berlin, stopping every now and then for a detailed explanation of different World War I & II sights. We eventually stopped in an office carpark, this is where Hitler’s bunker was buried far underground, the place where he eventually killed himself. Our guide went on and on telling us all about the bunker, it was all very interested and he really seemed to get into it. We soon continued on past various buildings which were important in the ... read more

It was good news this morning, we were leaving this disgusting campsite in Prague and heading back into Germany toward the famous city of Berlin. After breakfast we all helped pack the van and were on our way. Our first stop was a city called Dresden, a city which was completely destroyed at the end of World War II then rebuilt from the ground up. We had a very quick look around some of the breathtaking gothic architecture then had free time to get some lunch. We found a McDonald’s and nearly the entire group headed straight for it. After we had eaten our time was up, we had to head back to the bus in a hurry and continue onto Berlin. After a long drive we eventually made it into the city of Berlin. We ... read more

Europe » Czech Republic » Prague August 24th 2008

We woke up and got ready for our free day to roam around Prague. Hannah, myself and a few others left the campsite and began the long journey into town. It wasn’t easy, we got lost on the way to the tram and when we finally found it we had no idea where to get off. It required input from everyone who was with us to finally work out which stop to get. We made our way to Prague Castle to get a closer look and explore this impressive structure. Some of us had planned to have a look around inside, but the amount they were charging was ludicrous, besides we only wanted to have a quick look. The spectacular Cathedral within the castle walls was free, however since it was Sunday everywhere had limited opening ... read more

Overnight in Munich, it was one of the rare occasions that we only stopped for a single night, today we moved on to Prague - Czech Republic. We again packed up our gear then boarded the coach on the way to Prague, it was a few hours before we reached the city centre. Billy pulled over while we performed another flawless parachute drop and we began our brief guide of the city with Jamie. The city was beautiful, cobbled streets everywhere lead into the amazing bridges that crossed the river Vitava, the architecture was simply breathtaking. Up on the hill in the distance we could see castle Prague, the largest castle in the world, it’s gothic figure shadowed over the city below. We made our to one of the most impressive bridges in Prague which crossed ... read more

Today was quite possibly going to be the most emotional day on tour, we got ready, packed our gear and headed for an Austrian Concentration Camp called ‘Mauthausen’. We took a short bus trip to the concentration camp and were given the option to watch a movie about the history of Mauthausen, every single person on the tour did it. The group sat and watched this deeply emotional film which described exactly what went on to the prisoners here. An hour later we emerged from the theatre most people holding back tears, we were totally silent. We had time to explore around the concentration camp and after getting a little lost Hannah and I eventually found the entrance. Unfortunately most of the information boards weren’t in English on them, but you knew exactly what went on ... read more

Europe » Austria » Vienna » Vienna August 21st 2008

After having breakfast Billy dropped us off at the impressive Schoenbrunn Palace in the centre of Vienna. It was very gloomy and overcast day today but we weren’t going to let this spoil our day in Vienna. Jamie gave us a deadline to meet back at the bus while we had free time to roam around the gardens of the palace. It was an impressive building in an unusual yellow colour but there really wasn’t too much to do. We didn’t really have enough time to explore inside so instead Hannah and I wondered up to an impressive fountain located at the other end of the gardens before eventually making our way back. We continued to have a look around then met back at the Topdeck coach. Eventually everyone turned up, we jumped onto the bus ... read more

Europe » Austria » Vienna » Vienna August 20th 2008

We needed to pack up our tents and be ready to go very early this morning because today was the single longest drive day of the tour, Venice to Vienna. Before we left we said a sad goodbye to the people who were leaving us today as we headed for our next destination. We spent the entire day in the Topdeck van, except when we stopped for a short lunch at a service station just off the motorway. It wasn’t until late afternoon when we finally arrived at our campsite in Vienna. We setup our tents and Gavo began to cook dinner, I again thought it was time to do some laundry but went to find that it was extremely expensive, more than any other place we’d been so far, I decided to leave it. We ... read more
