Met up with La khawaja in Salta, on the 18th sept and we've been living the latin american dream ever since. Traveling up to the Bolivian border via Tilcara and taking in the sights of Humuwaca, then hopping across the very lax border at Villazon...it was a drugs smugglers dream and we only got stopped and asked for our entry / exit stamp cos we looked so bemused by it all. We crossed the road and the world seem to change...we were now in Bolivia, the steets were choatic, people's faces were darker but there clothes more gregarious, with brightly coloured shalls, and rainbow coloured skirts, and the arbitrary baby strapped to women's backs. Quickly got ripped off at the casa de cambio and then we were on our way but not before a 4 hour ... read more

Finished the 3 day salt flat tour and got straight on the train to Tupiza. Arrived in Tupiza at 4am extremley tired. Tupiza was a quiet town, and a good place to relax and catch up on some sleep. Apprentley, Tupiza was the set for "Butch Cassady and the Sundance Kid", so we had to jump on a horse and go for a ride! I think Pauls expression was "My bollocks will never be the same!". ... read more

The train to Tupiza arrived at 4 am, a really unusual time of day to be looking for accommodation. Across the road from the railway station is a really nice hotel called Hotel Mitru Anexo which had a room for us, a good hot shower and then a sleep. Turpiza is a really nice town, has an easy feel, we had a walk around and booked a tour to have a look at the canyons the next day. Tupiza is near where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid robbed the payrole at Huaca Huanusca, and San Vicente is a mining town where they met their deaths in a shootout. I had wanted to do a tour of these sites, but when I learned the trip ended at over 4000meters and was very cold, I decided not ... read more

So , we are way behind in blogging, but that doesn´t mean we are way behind in tragedy and misadventure. I´ll slowly work backwards over the last 2 weeks, but we will start with what i still remember...yesterday. So we are now in Tupiza, which is a mix of an 1800´s western town, a 1950´s Norman Rockwell painting, and more stylistically mixed up teenage bolivian punk rockers than most of you have ever dreamed existed. Their naivety is adorable though, and bootlegged Abercrombie and Fitch black t-shirts with metal studs popped in is so tough, i think I´ll be swiping that style when we get home. I even forgive the kid in the Good Charlotte shirt for not understanding how much that band is a bunch of little bitches cuz of his black cut rate ... read more

We arrived in Tupiza, Bolivia with the sole purpose of booking a 3 day 4x4 tour to the salt flats of Uyuni. Tupiza itself resembles that of an old western town, minus the saloon and tumble weed. Mudbrick constructions pass as housing and shops and there is about 20 meters of actual sealed road, makes for a great town for passing through. After a miner setback on our hotels behalf, we were off for the adventure of a life time. As per usual pictures do a complete injustice of the sights and images of the Bolivan desert. First stop, a small town around 10 hours drive away, provided us with an insight into the pressure of altutide. At around 3.500 feet, the headache kicks in, followed by breathlessness and thrist. With a quick game of football ... read more

After Potosi we headed to Tupiza a small place 8 hours down a shitty road on a clapped out bus. The reason I wanted to come her as it was the area where Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid finally got caught by the authorities and apparently died in a blazing shoot out. I have loved the film with Paul Newman and Robert Redford since I was a kid and when I found out the place was actually real, I had to come! I have looked on the net for some background information for you, but so many stories, so if you’re interested have a look. To get in the real swing of things we hired horses and followed some of the horse steps of the famous outlaws! The scenery was beautiful and just typical of ... read more

After a hell bus ride down an extremely bumpy road where I could not sleep, even after having two sleeping tablets, we made it to Tupiza. I usally don´t take any tablets when I go on the buses as I have been having no trouble sleeping but one of the girls had some and since I was with other people I thought why not. Think that they worked for all of 2 hours and then I was awake for most of the bus trip thinking I was going to die. The road is unpaved with lots of pot holes, all of which I think the driver found, and I was sure that there was funny noises coming from parts of the buses that they shouldn´t. Maybe I was just paranoid but I was so glad ... read more
