After a few days in Bariloche it was off to San Martin and Junin de Los Andes. San Martin is about 2 hours north of Bariloche and is another tourist hot spot being so close to the national parks. Junin has a strong indigenous (Mapuche) influence and was especially interesting with the park called "Viachrsti" (Christ´s Path) with its statues and carvings depicting mixtures of Christian struggle combined with Mapuche history. I am fascinated with Viachristi. The sculptures are indeed works of art and the park a gem in Mapuche culture. I have never seen such a mixture of Christ with Indian religion and history. I hope you enjoy the pictures. ... read more

The tango in Buenos Aires is so contagious that the young man who was apparently being dragged to a tango lesson, has tried to sweep me away with a couple of moves - in the most obscure places, including the Evita museum! Our first night was spent at Bar Sul, an intimate bar in San Telmo. We quietly snuk out of our hostel, after the hostel guy proudly stated that he had never ever been to a Tango bar but sure, the one we were asking about had gotten pretty good reviews. (Dan calmed my astonishment after reminding me that I had probably never gone to an organised Aboriginal show before). Now my travelling tendency to exaggerate is probably going to be at its worst when I speak about this night. But it was truly unforgettable..(especially ... read more

Leaving the rugged climes of Southern Patagonia I arrived in the city of San Carlos de Bariloche. This city sits on the banks of Lake Huapi and is very close to National Parks Huapi and Lanin. The architecture is influenced by the Swiss Alps as the area is a booming ski mecca in winter (May to September). I had the chance to catch some intersting festival activities and do alot of catching up on simple kicking back and relaxing at the beach. Hope you enjoy the photos.... read more

I flew on a small two prop airplane from Puerto Natales, Chile to El Calafate, Argentina. I was the only person on the flight. Too bad they didn´t fly over Torres del Paine like I had hoped they would. I guess if I was a pilot I wouldn´t feel too comfortable flying over an area with treacherous winds and thermal updrafts. We instead flew over the Patagonian steppe.... read more

Who would have thought it could get any better? From the Argentian Side (and did my first border cross today!) saw even bigger falls, and rode through them, around them, underneath them on a speedboat! We took front seat and yelled for more, to the dismay of the poor elderly American couple wearing rain coats, with the bizaare preconception that they would not be getting ¨this¨ wet! Utterly amazing.. We set off for a compulsory part of our package, the bird park.. But this was so much more than a bird park! We walked in and amongst the biggest parrots I have ever seen, elegant flamingos and cute toucans! Managed to practice my Spanish on a giggling parrot, and could have spent hours in a butterfly house with humming birds.. Have managed to control my urge ... read more
