was so glad to be leaving alice springs the day after i got back from the camping safari - don't think i could have spent another day there!!! my flight to cairns (this is tuesday) was bumpy. really really bumpy :( lindsey was not happy and lindsey felt rather queasy despite wearing rather good acupressure bands that usually work. so i managed to sleep for the duration of the flight, yay! all 2 and a half hours of it, which is quite impressive i think, considering there was the most annoying child sat behind me for the duration who thought it was super fun to kick my chair. ah well! like i say, it made little different, i think the camping and 24km of walking took it out of me a bit :) oooh, freaky - ... read more

Today I drove the group of us north to Auckland for the game. The van was full, Jared, Kim, Kira, Kendra, Jess, and I packed up and went on the spontaneous trip. I won 6 tickets for the All Blacks game on www.trademe.co.nz and it worked out to be about $100NZ a ticket, so about 70 $ US. I drove all the way up there with only stops for gas and food because it was getting late. We finally found Kira's aunt/uncle's house and stayed the night there.... read more

Well Michael, Anne-Marie, Nick and myself took off for a weekend in the Blue Mountains. Marcus (ex Crowne Plaza) is running the Holiday Inn out in Penrith and did us a great deal on accommodation. Pity we picked a weekend that he was out of town so i didn't get to catch up with him or Debs. Arriving later than expected (and no i didn't get lost!) we had a quiet night in the bar. Well as quiet as the four of us could be. After a few cocktails, beers, spirits and a train wreck or two thrown in, i headed in for a reasonably early night. Anne-marie managed to get an eye infection on the Saturday so didn't come up to the mountains. I managed to somehow get myself off the beaten track a little ... read more

Drop bears, in the Blue Mountains, what the??????!!!!! Okay, so how many people know about Drop Bears?? Why on earth didn't you tell me then!!!!!! We started out on our trip and i do vaugely remember someone once talking about drop bears years ago, i wish i had of remembered the story now. Nick and Michael seated in the back started talking about drop bears, of course i was very interested as i was dying to see some real Aussie mountain animals or something at least almost wild. On they went, advising me on what to look for, how to spot them and then manage to get far enough away from them to observe. Even Anne-Marie had a few tips. I was so excited, i spent hours and hours over the weekend looking in trees, up ... read more

I had been down to the South Island a number of times as a child to visit relations, mostly in Invercargill and Riverton - this time was both a trip down Memory Lane, and a chance to see new places. ... read more

V Aucklande sme vybehli von z letiskovej haly v paperovych bundach a s nasadenymi mackami a cakanmi pripraveni na Novo-Zealandsku zimu..

Went around the island on the moke, which i love and i've decided i have to live permanently on an island so that it can be my full-time car. The island is really nice, it reminds me a bit of Waiheke Island, i don't know why as it's actually nothing like Waiheke apart from the fact it's also an island. You also really got that tropical holiday feel zooming around the little roads in the moke. A lot of the island can only be got to by 4WD so we saw as much as we could (it's only about 15 minutes to drive from one end to the other, so it didn't take very long!) We went down to Picnic Bay, but it was quite windy so came back up to Alma Bay to sunbathe and ... read more

On Thursday, after watching the sun rise onto Spring, we travelled the 800km Donahue-Plenty highway from Boulia to Alice Springs, skirting the top of the Simpson Desert and visiting NO towns on the way. Mid-morning we crossed into the Northern Territory (and set our clocks back 30mins). The highlight of the day (except for the awesome nothingness) was finding a Thorny Devil. The lowlight was meeting the most extreme flies we've even had to suffer poking in our noses, ears and eyes! We arrived late evening for dinner in Alice. The next day we walked into town, climbed Anzac Hill for comprehensive views and then visited some of the historic buildings including taking a tour around the Royal Flying Doctors Service base and marvelled at the completely dry Todd river.... read more

Stormy night. Sarah awoke at 3am when a rucksack fell on her head from a shelf above. There's a brief panic before we start laughing. Time for a midnight feast. We've never eaten a whole Terry's chocolate orange in a nicer place. Tonight should be good fun we are having a traditional lovo meal (food cooked underground).....and the dreaded Kava cermony. Kava Ceremony...island men dressed in traditional costume. Kava looks and tastes like dirty, gritty dishwater...before sending your tongue and mouth numb. We both try it...but its not that bad....we may even bring some back for you lot to try. The lovo meal was nice. Pork, chicken and veg washed down with fiji beer....yum.... read more

Well the year is nearly over but I still remember the first day of this year vividly. Not only did I have a great night before, but stayed up partying till the sun came up 6am!! And what is even more special is that I was in Gisborne NewZealand, which is "officially" the first place in the world to see the sun. That is because the GMT timeline starts in there, so it is a special place to greet the New Year. Very funny moment when we were at the lookout with about 40 other people (kiwis and tourists alike), and I said to my cousin Anna "Wow-look at that beautiful skyline" And she replied "where'? as she looked around the carpark!! She has been in the city too long, because the word Skyline to her ... read more
