Over the weekend Angela, Nick (her boy), Anne-Marie (her flatmate) and I went out to the Blue Mountains. They are called the Blue Mountains, because they are covered with eucalyptus trees, which give off a vapour which gives a blueish tinge to the region. My camera didn't take too nicely to this tinge, and proceeded to crap itself (See photo). This does provide me with a great excuse to go shopping for electronic gizmos in Singapore however. The weather was slightly less than ideal for our trip, However the effect of being up amongst the cloud was rather breath-taking. Seeing mountains and trees disappear in and out of the clouds. Being at a look out, and only being able to see 10 metres around me. Looking over the edge to over see a mist of cloud. ... read more

Greetings from Australia, the land of vegemite, kangaroos, and great surf! What can I say - I love Australia and have had the most amazing time here! I love the landscape, the dry sense of humor and the “no worries” attitude towards life, the local pubs, and even vegemite! I came here six weeks ago to work as a project leader for International Student Volunteers, an organization that brings students from the US, Canada, and the UK together to work on conservation projects throughout Australia. After two weeks of physical labor, the participants get to celebrate with a two-week long adventure tour throughout Queensland. My first two weeks, I led a group of eight students (6 American, 2 Canadian) on a Conservation Volunteers Australia Project in northern New South Wales. We spent our days tackling a ... read more

Had another argument with Lucy over breakfast but hopefully we've now got it out of our system and patched things up for good!! Bumped into a girl that was in our dorm in Rainbow Beach, who was telling us horrific tales of bed bugs (which consequently I dreamt about last night!) We met Hoyt, the guy we'd met the night before, on the ferry going over to the mainland, which was a bit creepy... he was urging me to go and visit him after Cairns, hmm, maybe not. Got the bus to Mission Beach, stopping in Cardwell for some fish and chips at a roadside café. Once again we were majorly anti-social and had a double room for ourselves which was lush, really near the beach and with a swimming pool just outside the patio doors... ... read more

We set off early on Saturday morning with a group of 16 fellow travellers and our driver, Sandy, on the 'Wayward bus' bound for Adelaide via some of the most remote parts of the earth. Our first stop was the baking hot Rainbow Valley in the desert where Emma and I wandered off from the group, spotted wavy trails in the sand and managed to startle a baby BROWN SNAKE! He was only about 9 inches long but still one of the most deadly slitherers on the planet...and boy did he move fast (thankfully away from us!). We also stopped for fuel and refreshments at Stuart's Well where we met some orphaned bush animals (a baby camel and a couple of joeys) but more famously wintnessed the antics of Dinky the famous singing Dingo. Apparently, he ... read more

The first of hopefully many more road trips and weekend trips to come. Check out all the cool pics of the game! It was heaps of fun. I had the tickets, so we all followed me. I got into the stadium and started walking up the stairs because I was fairly sure that the seats were up higher because they were not too expensive. After looking around for a few minutes we could not find the row we were supposed to sit in. I finally asked an usher and he pointed down to the field and said way down there. I was thrilled and jogged down there. Our seats turned out to be amazing. They were not in the center of the field, but on an angle, which was fine. It was easy to see the ... read more

After dinner, we are asked if we want to go and see the Kiwi / Wallaby game. Its the tri-nation decider and is being shown on a neighbouring island. 12 of us make the trip, across open water, in the pitch black. Only the stars...and there are plenty guide the way. We set off into the black yonder, I get the impression that we are starring in the opening credits of a disaster movie! We make it of course...watch the game...and make it back. As we are walking back to our Bure one of the staff asks us "if we'd like a Bob Marley cigarette"...we of course decline...but its the final straw as far as Sarah is concerned. We'll try and escape tomorrow! ... read more

We're leaving Bounty Island today. We havent been able to get into any of our other "chosen" resorts of Otto and Fanny's, Octopus or Oarsmans Bay. They're all full. Instead we head for Kuata Resort...the gateway to the Yasawa's. Its not really covered in the guide books but we have seen their own brochure. We get the transfer boat to the YF and we are soon on our way. Travelling with us is is Hobarts answer to John Cleese (see pic and you'll see what I mean..) The cost is FJ$ 65 each (about 20 quid). We arrive bang on time (as usual) at 11am. It looks like a good choice.....but as Sarah know's appearances can be deceptive. We are checked into Bure Nr 8. Its costing us FJ$ 130 a night for the Bure and ... read more

We woke up Saturday to a not so pretty day in Manly. It was pretty chilly, so we used this perfect opportunity to relax with some movies. Missing American TV, we ended up renting Friends (of course), Sex & the City and The Sopranos. We all enjoyed our day of relaxation! Of course we had to rest up before another night of fun! As for this night, we wanted to take the opportunity and check out the Manly scene. All week we've had our eye on this woodfired pizza place across the street from our apartment. Lyndsey, having already eaten a bit of sushi (which keeps her streak going to have eaten sushi every day since she's been here) only ate a salad. MN and I split a most delicious vegetarian pizza! It was very good ... read more

Whooo hooo! Im here! In Sydney! Sat in an internet cafe on the other side of the world!!!! And boy did it take a while to get here! First off, didn't think Id make the plane. (Elaine, see what Im like when you're not here to organise me!). The good old district line was moving at 1/4 speed cos of some security alert (susi have you been leaving boxes laying around again? ;o) so was one of the last to join the check in queue and boy, what a queue. It was chaos. It took at least an hour to get seen to and then I had to run to the boarding gate cos the plan was leaving! The up-side was I got one of those seats at the front with loads of leg room (which ... read more
