We set off early again today to drive the 600km from Tenant Creek to Mount Isa, a large uninspiring industrial town on the border between the Northern Territory and just before Queensland. As it was a long drive today we set down here for a night staying at the local hostel where I had a few drinks with a nice Italian lad who was driving around australia on a Vespa scooter he had imported from Italy. Crazy! - Town was poo, and had a large mining facility right in the middle of it pumping out dirty smoke right next door to all the kids educational and sports ground facillities. Nice! Well after an 18 hour drive we are back near sun, sand and surf. We hung out in adalaide and went to some awesome wineries, forgot where we were for a few days ;) and decided not to go to cober pedy (inland desert area with underground hostels) because Spanky was giving us sass...so we decided to move to the East Coast...Brisbane to be more specific....we have only been here a day but our hostel is amazing. They are out of rooms so we only have to pay 10 dollars to sleep in the TV room...not sure how much sleeping will be done...Muaaaaaa.... All in all having a great time...really the status of that hasent changed that much. We have seen amazing things, met amazing people....saw wineries, went bull riding, we even did a penguin tour ... read more

Left the hostel early to get to Mount Cook, NZs most famous mountain. Although the drive was in gorgeous sunshine, once we hit Mount Cook it was raining quite heavily with low cloud. Decided to wait out the rain in NZ's most famous hotel 'The Hermitage'. Weather was still awful a couple of hours later so drove on to Lake Tekapo. Checked into the Tailor-Made backpackers hostel and went on a 2.5 hour ramble along the Lake Tekapo Track. Great scenery - nice easy walk once you got the top of the hills and walked along the tops. Had to fill in NZ census forms (happens once every 5 years). ... read more

So a few details about the fishing trip. After a few days in very English Cristchurch as previously mentioned I headed off with new travelling companion Tom, to the Banks peninsular which is an hours drive away towards the coast. Specifically we headed to to just outside the town of Akaroa to the a small farm hostel in the bush - reminisant of south wales again. So after ghetting our bearings and sampling the delightful homebrew ale available at reception Tom suggested we take a strole down to the fishing beach nearby. To begin with this didn't really fill me with joy as fishing certainly not something that has ever grabbed me before. But anyway off we went to the beach about half an hours walk away, and most of my fears for going fishing in ... read more

Wow!

Ensuite, debarquement a l auberge: le Wake Up!

Hellooooooo all, Its been a month or so since my last one of these and its most certainly been a 'different' month for me! I checked out of my hostel in Sydney and hopped on a train to a place called Albury which then connected with a bus to a minute town called Cobram where i was destined to do my fruit picking. The whole Journey took about nine and a half hours which wasnt too bad as i had a seat to myself on both the train and the coach i even treated myself to a gourmet spag bol meal. The train journey was a little boring as i swear i was going past the same tree and field every 15mins, and that was litterally all there was to see for the next 7 hours. ... read more
