Well. Here I am and haven't I been slack, no communications for weeks. I am now back driving and after not being able to, it is great to be back on the road. One great thing about not driving, I walked and walked, sometimes for 2 to 3 hours a day, and enjoyed it most of the time except when the awful weather made it wet and hard. Labour weekend we went up to Amy's and had the place to ourselves for 3 days while they were away. It was nice to have some good weather for walking on the beach at Waimarama, which is a neat beach, long and beautiful, a typical NZ ocean beach, going to a few picnic spots around the Bay and looking at hundreds and thousands of grape vines around the ... read more

I hear so many people use this phrase as an excuse.... If only I could afford it.... If only it was available.... If only they hadn't.... If only it wasn't cold, wet, and miserable outside. One of my biggest things is to always push the boundaries of the if only's. I woke at the DOC campsite in the clouds.... literally. Alone, with only the sound of the river below for company, there was a stillness to the air.... a heaviness that was part serenity, part beauty, and all water vapour. It was accompanied by the calmness that is only present when you haven't seen another human being for more than 12 hours. But as much as that was brilliant..... I had wineries to visit!!! Climbing back down out of the mountains, the clouds continued to follow ... read more

Awoke to a beautiful day (thanks Wellington) and shared a beautiful chilled Moët (thanks Liz)Off to the airport (thanks Greg). Seat 1a on Jetstar (thanks Jetstar, especially for flying and for exceeding our expectations with flight time). Straight out of Auckland airport, into a taxi and off for an amazing back and shoulder massage (thanks Renata at Active Physio). Into the Emperor Lounge at the airport, feet up and drinks and nibbles. A great flight on the A380 to Melbourne where we met Nath and Brendan in the transit lounge before re -boarding our flight, destined for Dubai. Two dinners and one breakfast later.....So thankful, in so many ways.... read more

Hi to everyone. Yes. The holiday is over. I am back home after spending 3 months having a great time and enjoying missing the winter here in NZ. I am very fortunate to be having these experiences. And, so, back to normality here at home, with things to do, chores that need attending to and generally getting back into life at Bosun Tce. But, of course, I have got a few things to look forward to, with Chris arriving, in Taupo, from Norway, on Saturday for a weeks fishing, a week looking after Holly during the school holidays in Hastings, and quite a few other occasions to carry me through and keep me going. So, I look back on the past 3 months and realize how lucky I am. Over the next few blogs I will ... read more

... read more

Saturday morning we were allowed to sleep in, so we got up around nine so that our host sister, Pearl, could take us to the outdoor market. We bought some great food (fish fritters and beef shish kebabs) and some souvenirs- a ceramic Maori flute and a name-painting that says “Buss Family, New Zealand 2013.” Perfect. We met back up with the group and did an impromptu performance at a mall, then did some sight-seeing. Auckland is surrounded by about 50 volcanoes and craters, so we hiked to the top of one. Mount Eden… beautiful view. Had lunch at the top: fish and chips. Most excellent. Took a little tour through Auckland by bus- our driver, Bruce, worked miracles with that bus. Took us down tiny one-way roads through construction, by the docks, above and beyond ... read more

How lucky am I. Tomorrow I leave to go on my travels again. I will be away until the 6th of September but Diane will be back toward the end of August. Yaa!!!One more sleep and then we are away to England, France and Norway. So the next blog will be from London and then I hope that I will be able to put a new blog out every 3 or 4 days to keep track of what is happening. This does depend on the availability of wi-fi in cafes and places were we stay. I, of course will travel from Norway to Turkey to pick up with Martin on the good ship, Therapy. I'm so looking forward to getting away from the cold, and with the days in England, the 2 weeks on the launch ... read more

Hello all, Kirkcaldie and Stains department store, the store that I spent the majority of my working life in, celebrates 150 years of trading this year. Mr John Kirkcaldie and Mr Robert Stain opened the doors in Wellington, in the year 1863. It has had an amazing history and is very much a part of the history of this city. This past Saturday I was invited to participate in the parade through the streets to open the celebrations. It was a terrific day and it was great to see the large crowd that turned out to help the store celebrate. It shows how much the store means to the public of Wellington. As I will be away overseas for the next 3 months, and will miss the majority of events, I wish the store a very ... read more

It is time for me to get myself sorted in preparation for another adventure into the northern hemisphere. In 5 weeks I'm off to England for 9 days, then France for 14 days, up to Norway for 26 days and then I finish up back in Turkey and the Creek Islands, on the yacht with Martin and others for 31 days. When I get back, daylight saving will be just around the corner and it will be summer again. I am so so lucky!!!! I will now try to do a blog every few days to make sure that I have every thing under control in posting photo's and such before I head away. I will go into more detail as to what and were I'm going during these and post some photos of the past ... read more
