Hello Everyone! Well I have now officially had my first publicity photo taken!! Yesterday night I attended the NZ premiere of the film "In her shoes" with Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette. It was a fundraising event for WIFT ( Women In Film and Television) Pam White coordinated the entire event and invited me to come. I took my friend John and I had a great time. We saw the film which was pretty good and then after there was a prize giveaway, some promotional giftbags, wine and nibbles and a woman walking around taking pictures for WIFT promotion. She stopped by John and I and took our picture then asked for our names and wrote them down. It was very exciting. I got to meet Pam and she is extremely nice, we have arranged to ... read more

Kia Ora Katou!- (Hey everyone!) Long time no blog! My apologies! These past two weeks have been just overwhelming with all my schoolwork coming to a big pile. AGH! But I managed to survive and turn it all in. SO now I have a week until my Finals and then traveling the North Island, then FIJI! It has all flown by SO quickly, can you believe I am done with my classes at Vic, already? My time at school here has been a great learning experience. For the most part I loved all my classes, (Music in NZ, Maori Society and Culture, Peopling of Polynesia and Literature, Film, Theatre of Aotearoa NZ) My favorite being the latter. In Maori class I learned how to do cultural dances, sing a waiata, do a karanga and help cook ... read more

Erratic spring showers in Auckland left me at a bit of a loss at what to do on Monday. It turned out to be one of those aimless wandering days, dodging the downpours and generally observing hostel life. In the evening I was accosted by a shy Japanese girl called Tomoni. She had only just arrived in the country and felt quite threatened by not being able to communicate and actually envious of fluent english speakers around her. Her weapon of attack was a simple electronic word convertor. It proved to be invaluable. I succeeded in explaining to her to not be afraid to ask for help in all aspects of daily life. She proved her confidence by asking another girl in our dormitory where to buy water! Although late, she was hungry and I accompanied ... read more

Today there was a huge birthday party for Evan and Kate. It was in 209, and theme was Mexico. I didn't have anything to wear, so Jason just told me to speak in Spanish for awhile, which was fun. I still remember a fair amount of Spanish. There were heaps of people in 209. It got pretty roudy. I was the 'funnel man' I packed dozens of funnels for everybody, it was alot of fun. I took one myself, even tho I didn't plan on drinking. I even had Evan funnel his margarita, twice. It was a really fun night.... read more

TGIF! Yahoo! School ended today, officially, it ended yesterday for me since I don't have class on fridays. All I have left is a take home music final that should be easy-it's only worth 10% of my grade. I still have my Maori Culture & Society Final, which is on the 18th, and worth 50%, I will need to study for that. I only studied for about 15 or 20 minutes for my Maori Business final and I got an A on that! yay! Tonight is the international party down at the loaded hog bar. I Pregamed in my room and played beer pong against brian. we played 2 games, with 4 beers in the first and 3 in the second. 7 beers in only about 10 minutes. It was tough... We headed over to the ... read more

Dear Everyone, Hello!! Well I have officially been here for nearly 3 weeks now. It feels like a lot longer. I feel like I have settled in really fast which is nice. My furniture that I bought at the Salvation Army has all arrived so I have now actually unpacked everything. I have yet to recieve my boxes which I mailed to my friend Rhyan 2 months ago. I expected this though, last time it took me 2 and a half months to get boxes of clothing and books that I sent to myself last semester. Getting to know my flatmates has been wonderful. They are all really nice people and I feel completely comfortable here. I love my room and the location of the flat is ideal. Last week I worked on building claymation sets ... read more

Got the coach to Rotorua, stopped off at a place called Waitomo were I did a glow worm tour and saw lots of little glow worms in caves. In the evening went to a Maori village (fake). Yaaa -how's it?, I be in New Zealand now and travelling around the two main islands (North and South) for another 20 days or so..... So just finishing my second month in Australia (well just the East coast of Australia) and I have been travelling via an organised "backpacker" tour bus called the Oz Experience. They organise little mini trips and activities between driving you from one place to another. On my first three days, there were four of us on the Oz Exp. mini bus and a surf school for this period. Fresh from surfing in South Africa, it was interesting to see how the lessons compared in Australia.... The surf was more challenging at the beaches we learnt at here than S.Africa but I seemed to stand up just as often (not very!) hehe- ... read more

Today started off with a bang when Geri broke the hotel's french press coffee pot, showering glass shards, coffee and grounds all over the floor. Thankfully, hotel management didn't seem to care. You would have thought we'd told Linda, the manager, that she'd won the Lotto when we told her about the broken pot. Geri is drinking tea for the duration of the trip, at least when she's in charge of making her own beverages. After that trauma, we braved the rain and wind and headed off to Te Papa Tongarewa, the National Museum of New Zealand. (Te Papa translates to "Our Place.") It's a huge complex that includes natural history, cultural, scientific and art exhibits. Plus about 47 different places to get coffee. Kiwis are very into espresso all of a sudden. After Geri indulged ... read more
