Since we are in a downtown hotel, I start to waken to sounds of the city below. Most of the buildings in NZ don’t have central air or heat but you don’t really need it, so the windows in our room are open. We get dressed and have breakfast at the hotel. Michael had seen an article in the newspaper in Auckland that a person could hand feed sea otters at the Wellington Zoo. I think most of you know Michael’s affection for sea otters so I was determined that he be able to do this, although we thought it might be very limited and not be available in the two days we plan to be here. I got the phone number for the zoo and called them first thing this morning. Sure enough, it is ... read more

We get up and get our bags packed by 10:30 am. We get on rental computers in the lounge area for an hour so we can kill some time before lunch. Our bus to Wellington leaves at 2:30 pm. We walk down to Eivin’s (the family owned café) but they are only open for dinner, so we decide to try to get to the rail station restaurant before the trains come in. We get there about 12:30 pm and the trains are not due until at least 1:00 pm, so we have a wonderful lunch and watch the trains come in from Auckland and Wellington before going back to our hotel to pick up our bags. The trip to Wellington is beautiful. We travel through hilly and terraced pastureland. Since it is spring here there are ... read more

The Lauchlan's (Jamie, Joy, Amber, Ben, Melody and Rachel) are friends of the Hart's from way back. Ben is the youngest - you may remember him from such blogs as 'Nathan's road trip to Christchurch'. He has lived life as a man in a women's world (3 sisters). Hence, he has always had a special connection with the Hart's. We helped remind him what testosterone was when we caught up coz he could talk about sport and we would understand what he meant. As the only Hart boy in the country at the time, I went to represent the boys at the wedding in Johnsonville (ha, johnson!), Wellington (the nation's capital). Here are some photo's of me in Wellington. ... read more

Hello everybody We are now in the beautiful city of wellington. Since we last spoke, we have travelled from mt manguani (some spelling like that) through to Rotorua, Lake Taupo ( very nice), Napier (wine making place with lots of art deco - wonderful botanic garden) then across of Otaki (couple of hours from wellington) and then onto Wellington - where we are now. Napier was lovely, it was sunny and the scenery much like that of tuscany with all the vineyards. Otaki is a place you wouldn't think to stop in but it had this fantastic gorge which we went for a walk to, a massive car museum (where chris acted like a child in a sweet shop - he literally didn't know which direction to walk in first), and a beach were i ... read more

O.k. - here are more of the photos that I promised to download!!! They're all self explanatory!! The big boat that's currently sitting in Taranaki Wharf , HMNZS Wellington is going to be sunk off the southern coast in November to become a divewreck!!! Sorry there aren't any pictures of me but I'll see what I can do for next time!!! Hey everyone- Good news, I spent my final night at Wellington City YHA watching Whale Rider (without falling asleep!!!) in the common room and by 9.30 this morning moved into permanent accommodation. The guys I'm sharing with are Bonne and Eugene, very laid back and friendly couple and if I end up not finding work or if I need to move on, I just give them a couple of weeks notice. Cool eh!!!... read more

I emailed my music final to my prof last night. It went pretty well. I also turned in my Listening Diary, which is worth 80% of the grade, last week, and I wrote a choice essay on Jimi Hendrix. I will email it home soon. Today Paul, Toss, and I are gonna decide where we wanna go on the road trip. Also, I'm working on putting some better speakers into the van. Nothing special or expensive. Jon, from telecom, has some old speakers he will give me and Hamish knows how to install car audio stuff, so it should work out well. I am also working on a second edition beer pong table. Im using heaps of empty beer cans to hold up the table, should work better this time around. ... read more

I'm into my last week here in Wellington. It's been a great stay, and I'm actually going to miss it. Come Sunday morning Clint and I are jumping on the Interislander ferry which will take us over the Cook Strait to the South Island. Our tentative plans are to go St. Arnaud in the Nelson Lakes Nat'l Park. Latest reports from the park say they have been getting snow down to 900 metres, which is where the campgrounds and any hike we do will start. We're hoping that all that moves out and the snow melts. After we have seen everything there is see there we will take a shuttle to Greymouth, on the west coast of the South Island. We will probably spend a day and night there getting rested. Then we will take the ... read more

Hello Everyone! Well I have now officially had my first publicity photo taken!! Yesterday night I attended the NZ premiere of the film "In her shoes" with Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette. It was a fundraising event for WIFT ( Women In Film and Television) Pam White coordinated the entire event and invited me to come. I took my friend John and I had a great time. We saw the film which was pretty good and then after there was a prize giveaway, some promotional giftbags, wine and nibbles and a woman walking around taking pictures for WIFT promotion. She stopped by John and I and took our picture then asked for our names and wrote them down. It was very exciting. I got to meet Pam and she is extremely nice, we have arranged to ... read more
