Left Taupo about 7.30am (no sleeping in past 6am on this trip!!) and headed for Waitiamo where Kizzy (girl from my bus) and I ventured into the caves to spot the glow worms! Very funky!! really tiny but so bright and really nice cave to walk around in! (if that makes sense!!) We headed on from here to the National Park where we were spending the night, the national park is where Mt Doom is from Lord of the Rings (cannot actually remember its real name!!) Chilled out in the hostel watching Glee and Graham Norton (how very english of us!!) before getting up early for another loooooonnnng day in the bus! Not very exciting but we are now onto the long journeys of the trip!! xx... read more

Yes I did it!!! I went sky diving!! oh my god!!! Such an amazing experience! Went with the other girls on my bus as they had organised a company to collect them in a limo and to jump out of a pink plane!!! Sarah, one of the girls and myself said that there was no way we were doing it but we soon changed our minds!! We arrived at the site and were told to watch a dvd of what to expect!! Was sitting there thinking why on earth am I not doing this!! Soon signed up and met my instructor called Wadey (Steve), he got us geared up and then we headed to the plane!! ... read more

This wasn't a particularly highly anticipated part of our trip but it was a welcomed stop when we got here. There was loads to do in Taupo, apparently the adventure capital of the north island, who knew!? Lake Taupo itself is huge and pretty mesmerizing to look at (although I was so busy looking I seemed to have neglected to take any pictures of it!). Think Loch Ness then times it by 10. The near by Huka Falls were magnificent, a narrowing of the river from 100 to 15 metres causes a huge volume of water to collide and cascade into this powerful display of waterfalls and rapids. If you can go on the Huka Jet which gets up close to the falls then do it but move fast as it was sold out the day ... read more

Day 102 & 103 16th-17th December We had an early start that morning as the space we were parked in was needed from 7.30am so we had to leave, not that we were complaining! We had 3 days to get down to Wellington so we could catch our Interislander Ferry to the South Island on the 19th and we had to get moving. We’d decided to drive via Huka Falls near Taupo. Ellory had picked up a leaflet at the Base Auckland about Prawn Fishing and was very keen to catch his own dinner! Fishing isn’t really my thing, but I like prawns so I was open to this idea!! The early start meant that, although it was a long drive, we arrived in Huka Falls around midday. I, understandably was a bit tired having driven ... read more

Hello! So we made it to the north island, the flight was so fast :D Had a quick stop over in wellington and wondered around a bit, then made our way up to Taupo where the weather was lovely and we spent the afternoon sunbathing at the lake. Today we did the Tongariro crossing which is meant to be the best one day walk in NZ however an hour in, the clouds came down and it rained for the entire 5 hours that we then had to walk!! Unfortunately we didn't get to see any of the views! Still making our way up the North Island and hopefully will arrive in Auckland by Christmas!! Love Roseanna and Anastasia xxx... read more

Today we had decided to do some proper tourist stuff again, and today was the turn of the Wai-O-Tapu volcanic area. This is a 3 section walk, which takes in various boiling springs, lakes, waterfalls and various lakes. There is also, a little bit away from the main area, a lake of bubbling mud, and also the Lady Knox geyser, which, with a little bit of manual intervention, erupts at 10.15 every morning, so we left early enough to be able to get there in time for that. The drive there was quite good fun, and we arrived in good time, so took a bit of time to take photos of the mud pool, before taking our places to watch the geyser erupt. After that, we headed to the main area for the walk around the ... read more

Breakfast out on the deck all together while Chris and I plan our day. First we take a walk around Crators of the moon. A thermal park, with mud pools and steaming earth. We had spotted a glass blowing studio so we stopped and watched some glass objects being made. We also has a snack and a cup of coffee at the café. We then go to the Honey hive, where they have some bee hives indoors so you can see the he bees hard at work making the honey in the combs. We selected some honey products including more ice cream for Chris!!! Our next stop is the Volcanic Activity Centre, a really informative centre about Volcanoes and Earthquakes. It has simulators and examples of geological activity. While we are wandering around taking in all ... read more

Warrick and Penelope are away with family, so we have a quick breakfast then head to Church. We had been walking past the church @109 and decided that we should give it a go. We are greeted and have a quick chat with a few people. The service is very good and after we are invited to have a coffee and more chatting. We wander back to the Bach and find that Andy and Maria have tried to get in touch to meet for more coffee. We go and find them and have a good chat about the day before and start to make plans for Wananka. They have to drive back to Wellington today so they make a move and we start exploring the attractions in Taupo! We head to Aretiatia Dam as it opens ... read more
