With the days walk cancelled it was decision time on what to do with the day. George & Ross were up early and came back with a take out breakfast. We then set out for Napier to visit vineyards in and around Hawkes Bay (btw photos to be added later when I can work out how to do it). John H took the first leg driving the 240 kms. What an unforgettable experience. I'm only just recovering. The fact that we drive on the same side of the road seemed to be lost on our driver as when he told to go right he immediatley did so right down the slip road on the opposite side of the road facing oncoming traffic. We can only hope they thought he was a mad frenchman. If that wasn't ... read more

Finally found somewhere with WiFi! Where was I? oh yes, Auckland to Hamilton. Jo has very kindly lent us her car for the week so all 4 of us set off at 11:30 am. George driving the first leg. 10 minutes into the journey and a call from Jo made us stop in our tracks. The only job I'd been given by George was to look after the Tickets (3) for the Wales vs Fiji match and I'd forgotten them! Needless to say after many insults we turned round and I collected the tickets. Arrived in Hamiton by 1:30, parked and found the Corner Bar. We had arranged to meet Bex Hayman (sister of Carl, former All Black) and we had a great time watching the first 2 matches on the many TV's (including Georgia vs ... read more

Day 1 Wellington We wandered into town via the waterfront and took the City Highlights tour. We were the only ones on tour, with our 'famous' tour guide Todd who is a close personal friend of Peter Jackson (well he got squashed by a dinosaur in King Kong and rode an Oliphaunt in the LOTR films) After the City and sea museum,we went to the "lookout" on Mount Victoria, with breathtaking views of the city. Then on to the WETA Cave, around the coast road ( spotting Peter Jacksons house), the cable car and the Government buildings . Then onto the match...very exciting with great atmosphere..but we was robbed...(English referee)... (R) Day 2: We did a Gourmet Walking tour, again it was just us which definitely made it more personal. We were given the opportunity to meet the ... read more

Hi my 20 followers... So im in Lake Taupo, but by the time I finish typing I may be in Roturua. Very skint at the mo, living on 20 quid a day, including accom, so no beer or treats for me, haha... So I went to the cinema in Wanaka, was so good. Proper sofas and funky little place, was really good. The next morning Pinky and I just chilled out and went into town for a bit. It took me about an hour to hitch a ride, the lady that picked me up said the disapointment on my face made her stop, as I had been waiting ages, haha. She was a really nice lady and we chatted all the way. She dropped me by the airport and I hitched into Queenstown with 2 irish ... read more

Happy August!!!! I can not believe that it is already August, I feel like it was yesterday that I had left the United States. To celebrate our last week of July here in New Zealand me and six of my girlfriends went to Lake Taupo for the weekend, which is a four hour drive north of Wellington. On Friday afternoon we picked up our amazing eight person silver mini van. This was the first time that we had to deal with the driving rules here in New Zealand, the theme for the weekend was.... KEEP LEFT. The driver on the other side of the car and driving on the opposite side of the road was tricky on the mind for the first hour or two of the trip but then it became much easier to deal ... read more

Grüße in ... read more

As my grandmother had skydived at the age of 65, I knew that I definitely had to do one. James was wavering, Iain was keen having done one before and Ellie was adamant that she would not do it. After heading to the tourist office to enquire about prices etc the girl informed us that sky diving would not be possible for the next couple of days due to rain (apparently the raindrops feel like bullets!!) and that i we wanted to jump, we had to do it that day! Following our night out in Rotorua, none of us were feeling too clever, furthermore, if we wanted to do it we had 10 minutes to decide as the next jump slot was in half an hour! We decided that it would be a fun thing to ... read more

A seven-hour drive to Wellington faced us today. We didn't have reservations and were kind of winging it on our last two nights on the North Island. There were a couple of spots we had hoped to see so we had modified the drive to accommodate them. This wasn't going to add too much time on to the drive. We pulled away from Woodlyn Park, the name of our quirky lodge. No animals on the roof but kids playing on the deck of the ship and signs of life coming from the airplane. We had actually seen our first wild mammal the night before - a bunny scampering across the driveway. Our drive today was going to take us east toward Taupo and then we would head pretty much due south on State Highway 1 which ... read more
