13th November In two minds whether to stay at the Long Bay campsite another day, decided to head to the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula towards a place called Cathedral Cove. Set my sat nav and off I go, I think the signal is very poor as For the first 15 mins we end up doing loads of U turns as she was telling me turn after we had already passed the junction. She eventually gets her bearings and off we go on the rollercoaster ride that is New Zealand roads. Nun geht es aber zurück nach Auckland, um den Schlüssel zu reparieren und endlich unabhängig zu sein. Leider hat der Angestellte jedoch keinen Schimmer und der Techniker ist natürlich schon weg… *grrrr* Molly steht uns zur Seite und Bernadette ermutigt mich doch noch bei Kim anzurufen, der uns den Tag noch besser macht. Denn er nimmt es locker und gibt uns seine Adresse, denn dort arbeitet er auch und so gelangen wir nach Thames und Kim – mit Indiana-Jones Hut ausgestattet – löst das Problem und mit neuem Schlüssel geht unserer Reise weiter zum Supermarkt Prank & Tank und wir haben etwas Schwierigkeiten mit der Größe, denn hier ist alles XXL. Mittwoch, 02.08.2017: Heute verließen wir Rotorua um auf die Coromandel-Halbinsel zu fahren. Dort sollen weitere heiße Strände, noch mehr Höhlen und evtl. ein paar leckere Weinbaugebiete auf uns warten. Die Fahrt, die aufgrund der zahlreichen Stopps mehr oder weniger den ganzen Tag beanspruchte, war im Vergleich zu unseren bisherigen Straßenerlebnissen eher unspektakulär. Sie brachte allerdings ein Novum mit sich: Daniela machte heute ihren ersten Ölstand-Check! Alle unsere Stopps waren entlang der Küste, wo wir an Stränden und Aussichtspunkten hielten. Eine kleine Wanderung auf eine Art Inselberg, ein Berg auf einer Landzunge vor der Küste, war besonders eindrucksvoll. Etwas Respekt hatten wir dabei vor den Vögeln, die den Gipfel des Berges bewohnten, da sie keinen vor uns hatten und enge Kreise um unsere Köpfe zogen - vermutlich Tollwut-Spatzen oder so ähnlich... Did very little in Auckland, the road system is so confusing we got lost every time we went out. The weather wasn't great either and we were both tired. We spent all of Saturday laying around. Monday we packed up for our last week and headed north. Of course we got lost trying to get out of Auckland! We headed up the Kauri Coast towards towards Dargaville stopping at the kauri museum. Kauris are trees that grew here in mass many years ago, they were logged almost to extinction. Some of the trees are over 2000 years old. The trees also produced sap or resin called gum that was used in linoleum in the 1900's. What they found was 2-3 dead kauri forests buried in swamp areas and gum reserves buried as well. Il y un an Julien faisait son tour de la NZ en vélo, et il a caché plusieurs objets pour me faire une chasse au trésor. Me voilà à Cathedral cove, un an jour pour jour après lui, pour trouver le premier objet. C'est non sans mal, et avec son aide en directe au téléphone, que je l'ai retrouvé !!!!
