Ici il pleut toujours depuis mon arrivée, mon lombaires vont mieux ;) ... read more

New Zealand: I flew from Tokyo to Auckland via Sydney. I had less than a two-hour layover in Sydney and immediately wished I had booked a few days there. Sydney is one of my favorite cities in the world and probably my top choice to live/work outside the US. It looked like a perfect day, but it was not to be. I had been there before. To me, Sydney is like having London marry Chicago and placed in Southern California. Auckland – Even though I’m coming into New Zealand at the tail end of winter, it was still in the mid-50s and sunny. This was a nice break from the humidity of Asia. It was easy to get used to the sweater weather. Auckland is constantly ranked as one of the top cities to live in ... read more

Geo: -36.8474, 174.766After flying out of Queenstown on a gorgeous early morning, we bid adieu to the South Island and arrived in Auckland before lunch. To comply with New Zealand carry on restrictions of 7 kilos (approx 15lbs), we had to do some juggling of luggage! Wish we had had a map with us to check on the landmarks we flew over. The weather in the N. Island has been rainy, and today was threatening, with just a few drops. We rented a car for one extra day and fit in some shopping, a lovely few hours at Cornwall Park (One Tree Hill), and dinner at a Malaysian/Singapore restaurant. We had to repack everything of course, and tried to get to bed early, which never happens. Didn't sleep much for some reason - awaiting the 4 ... read more

Geo: -36.6844, 174.734As you would expect, we are ready hours before we need to be so it is time for a cup of tea and post the first blog.We are flying Malaysian Airlines to KL then Heathrow. The final leg is Icelandair to Reykjavik arriving midnight Saturday their time.  I'm not even going to add up how many hours travel that will be. We haven't thought too much about the perils of two sisters travelling together for four weeks - well not that we admit to each other - so hopefully we will still be talking when we get back! So, we hope you tune in from time to time to see what we are up to. Until next post,Eg skil ekki, as we say in Iceland.  ... read more

Geo: -36.7992, 175.12The day start with drizzles, but we headed out anyway, stopping at lovely Cornwell Park (One Tree Hill and farming areas) before catching the 12 ferry to Waiheke Island, a very popular holiday destination in summer and on weekends, with about 5000 permanent residents. It took about 45 mins. What a delightful visit - Chris and David Sloan picked us up, fed us a wonderful quiche lunch, and showed us their island. We are jealous of their view! We have been in communication by email, sharing our mutual prayer support of Weekends, since about 1992! How great to finally meet. Evidently their son took up an interest in winery things and started getting David involved, and 6 years ago they moved to the island (that's where the vineyards have their own microclimate). There are ... read more

Geo: -36.8474, 174.766Knowing we couldn't squeeze everything in, we headed north into the city at 9 am (advised to wait till then for traffic) and had no problem finding the parking for the Ferry Building (until the 50s the tallest building in Auckland). Bought our ticket for Rangitoto Island and a "harbor tour" which was a 30 min trip onto the water and over to the closest island, which also happens to be the youngest volcanic cone at 600 years old. No food or water on the island, so we made sandwiches from supplies that came with this amazingly big suite - pb & J and just butter and jam sandwiches - plus we bought water and another sandwich. Most interesting harbor tour to see the buildings from land. The area is indeed dotted with many ... read more

Geo: -36.8474, 174.766We left KL very sad - and in fact it poured with rain most of the morning. Our GPS got us to the airport in plenty of time, so we got to do some shopping :)The plane trip was uneventful - got to catch up on some notes, have dinner AND breakfast, gorgeously presented of course.Arrived to a brilliantly bright and warm day in Auckland. The tide was obviously out from this water-surrounded city. Got the rental car - bit bigger than the one in Malaysia and not so pink, and then found our home-away-from-home: an enormous Comfort Inn suites with separate bedroom, sleepable for 4, fridge, and best of all -- washer&dryer in the suite. So we caught up with that while waiting to connect with Fr. Emile Frische, past exec for WWME we ... read more

After leaving Australia for our 13 day driving holiday in March for New Zealand's North Island we arrived after our flight . We picked up our hire car to drive to our accommodation in Auckland for 1 night . Once we had settled into our room we went to explore what was around our hotel . Then went back to our room to have dinner at the Hotel before retiring to our room for the night . After a restful night had breakfast and walked around the area where we were staying before heading off on our next destination .... read more
