I know this is a few days out of date but we are doing things everyday. I'm writing and publishing these blogs from, New Plymouth, Taranaki on a sunny Tuesday evening, very early morning for all back home. Auckland 13th March Well we made it to New Zealand, even after leaving Papeete and going through a Force 10 gale. The weather was blowy when we disembarked and we were surprised at the number of people transferring off the ship. Our tour round the North Island is centred on Auckland and it's a big thanks to our friends, John & Heather (the Paine family) who have allowed us to use their house as a base and to leave our luggage with them as we go North or South of the City of Sails. Our plans are fluid ... read more

We arrived in Auckland, New Zealand and began our last two weeks of our tour to be spent in this country. This morning we took a walking tour of Auckland which included the Remembrance Museum and the related grounds which was being prepared for a Chinese New Year celebration. We were presented with a discussion from a Green Peace representative concerning the change in policy by the New Zealand government concerning the US and the related nuclear policies. I personally was unhappy with this as it was more a justification of Green Peace rather than a cultural or educational program. The second half of the day we had a presentation by a native Moire, the native Polynesians who originally inhabited New Zealand. After returning to my room, I walked to the city center, met another couple ... read more

Today we were up again at 4 am for to get to the Sydney airport for our flight to Aukland, New Zealand. There was a 2 hour time change so by the time we traveled to the airport, caught our international flight from Australia to New Zealand, passed through customs in New Zealand and had the 2 your time change, it was 4 pm before we reached our hotel in Aukland. The weather is quite different at 70 degrees, from Sydney, which was to be a heat wave at 100 today. New Zealand has a total population of 4.5 million with Aukland one of the larger cities at 1.3 million. After checking in to our hotel, we went on a short walking tour of the immediate area and went to dinner at a local restaurant on ... read more

Geo: -36.7992, 175.12After a 40 minute ferry from Auckland to Waiheke Island, we met our tour guide for an incredible wine tour around the island. Waiheke Island has 30 wineries and we sampled 3 of the most beautiful; Mudbrick, Cable Bay, and Te Whau. Following the wine tour, we hiked up the hill from the ferry to our accommodations. Our studio apartment had a ridiculous view of the harbour below. That evening, we walked about 25 minutes into town and checked out some great bars and restaurants.... read more

Geo: -36.8474, 174.766We missed a day! We left San Francisco at 7:50 pm on February 6th, and arrived in Auckland at 5:40 am on February 8th. What happened to the 7th? The flight was 13 hours, but we both slept a lot, watched a couple movies, and it really was not bad.We are staying in a bed & breakfast in a historic coastal town across the harbour from Auckland, called Devonport. But, it is only a 15 minute ferry ride between the two.... read more

Drove to Taupo but again way too busy. So we continued on to Golden Springs, it consisted of a holiday park a couple of shops that had closed and a sign that said "Golden Springs". The holiday park advertised a geothermal pools so we checked n and set up the tent. I'll include pictures of the pools, we went in but they were rustic. Between the trucks on the highway right next to us and a dog that barked it wasn't a great night. We drove to Matamata "home of Hobbiton". We found a holiday park with a real thermal pool And spent another night. Thursday we drove into Auckland, I had booked an AirBnB for 4 nights. Bob had recieved an email from a friend in Palm Springs the day before, we started looking at ... read more
