Hallo ihr Lieben, ich hab mir endlich auch mal einen Blog erstellt, damit ihr auch wisst, was ich so mache und wo ich gerade bin. :) Im Moment bin ich noch in Auckland in einem Hostel. Wir hatten das schon vorher für 7 Nächte gebucht, was auch echt sinnvoll war. Wir haben erst am 08.11. unser Auto gefunden und mussten doch noch einiges regeln (das Auto ummelden war nicht ganz so einfach, weil wir immer irgendwas vergessen haben und wir ja keine richtige Postadresse haben). Trotz kleinerer Schwierigkeiten haben wir es letztendlich geschafft das Auto umzumelden, eine Versicherung abzuschließen usw und machen uns später noch auf den Weg zur 'Bay of Islands'. October 19, 2016 Auckland is an interesting city. Depending who you talk to, it has about 1,5 million inhabitants, which is about a third of the whole population. Kind of amazing. I don't know any other country with similar characteristics. The economy of the country is concentrated around agriculture (dairy, fruits, fish and lately, wine). Today we dedicated our day to wine, not just drinking, but visiting 2 wineries. Wine in New Zealand is principally (over 80%) white wine, chardonnay and souvignon blanc. Wineries are still small and production is still limited, which turns New Zealand wine in realitively expensive. In restaurants you can buy local wine or imported and invariably, local wines are more expensive than the imported ones. 18 October 2016 As things go, sometimes fortune strikes when you least expect it. Looking at alternatives for hotels, it ocurred to me to go to American Express that has been sending me e-mails regarding their travel business. At their web site I was offered the best hotels in town, with the possibility to pay for the hotels with points accumulated over time for the use of the credit card. Long story short, we are now in a premium hotel with all ammenities for free, including access to a club where we can eat for free, and even (tomorrow afternoon) have english "high tea"! This was what you could call a real long day and that following a long yesterday as well. The layover day in Los Angeles turned out to be very nice, but with one caviat, we had to leave the hotel at 6.00 PM, whereas our flight was at 11.10 PM. We spent abour 5 hours sitting a lounch at the airport. Although confortable, 5 hours are 5 hours. Leaving on Wednesday at 11.10 turned out well nevertheless; we fell asleep shortly after boarding and we slept about 6 hours, which with a flight of 13 hours is nice, but not great. Watching movies and drifting into sleep every once in a while, we arrived on Friday at 8.00 AM. Thursday never existed! Kind of strange. We were picked up at the airport and taken to our ... read more
