Day 67 Kalbarri to Geraldton 04/09/06 We awoke to another windy morning around 7.30am, got up and had breakfast. We began to pack up and at 8.45am Leanne took the boys down to the foreshore to see the pelican feeding. I am told that only 5 pelicans turned up for breakfast, but this is a record number of late. Apparently, since the cyclone, their attendance has dropped dramatically, having some mornings where a ‘no show’ was common! Once the feeding was over, Leanne and the boys returned to the trailer and we completed the pack up. By the time we said goodbyes and checked out the Kalbarri Oceanarium it was 10.25am as we drove out of Kalbarri. We drove around the coast road toward Northampton and visited Red Bluff, Rainbow Valley, Eagle Gorge, Castle Cove, Natural ... read more

Day 62 Coral Bay to Carnarvon 30/08/06 As we had to be at the Shopping Centre by 8.30am for the ‘Quad Bike Tour’, we were awoken at 600am by the alarm clock. We got out of bed straight away to find the tent was wet from extremely heavy dew. We quietly dressed, ate breakfast and began the pack-up. As I wanted the tent as dry as possible before we collapsed it (dried by the sun), we didn’t drop it until 7.55am. After tying the bikes on the front box, we drove across the road and parked in the trailer parking bay. Once at the tour shop, we were fitted out with helmets (we took our own snorkels & masks) and taken to the bikes. The boys had chosen the particular quad bikes they wanted the previous ... read more

Day 55 Onslow to Exmouth 23/08/06 As we had had such a big day yesterday, we slept in until about 7.30am. We got up, had breakfast and packed up. We walked down onto the beach and had a look around before driving back into town. We then drove out to the Onslow Salt works and had a look at the conveyor system they use to transfer the salt to the ships. After having a look at Sunset and Four Mile Beaches we drove back into town. After Leanne phoned Melbourne to check on her mother, as she had been admitted to hospital, (Marie is okay and on penicillin) we headed back out to the Highway and south toward to Exmouth. We arrived back at Nanaturra at 11.50am, where we refueled ($183.9 Lt) and had lunch. After ... read more

The animals and birds are really frisky at this time of year. We watched two "old man " kangaroos having an all-in kick boxing bout which didn't seem to impress the ladies at all. Closer to the cottage a male blue wren in his bright Spring plumage tackled his reflection in an old window.... read more

Back in perth now, and it doesn't seem quite so impressive now, after Albany, and so much more to see!! Although I did get the train to Cottesloe, which I'd been told was a nice little cove. When I got off the train I thought I must have got off at wrong stop, seemed to be in the middle of no-where!! I stood looking around and decided to follow a chappie heading off, that looked like a surfer. This was the right thing to do, I then noticed the sign that said 'beach this way - follow this road' 1km up and over the hill along a road passing some very magnificant houses and a golf course. There it was, and very nice too. In the evening of course I had my ticket for the Richard ... read more

After two weeks of travelling around Oz together, I left Susan to do her own thing in Perth for a while (her blog to follow...) and I went up to Exmouth (1200km from Perth) for April's wedding. It was fantastic! Exmouth is deep in outback country, with red red soil everywhere and not much else. Straight away we went on a sunset whale watching trip, which was just amazing. I saw loads of humpback whales, but no spectactular breeches (or at least none for the camera). It was a great way to catch up with April, Andrew and friends, as well as meet some of the other guests. The next day was cold and wet, apparently it rains just twice a year in Exmouth. I blame it on all the Brits invited bringing the weather with ... read more

5th - 8th September 06 - All the news and papers, here today, refer to 'Steve Irwin'. Its really strange that only the other day at the aquarium at Hillary's Harbour, I was watching the stingrays in fascination, as they swam safely around me, while I walk through the glass tunnel. I thought how cute they looked with their smiley face underneath. (like my drawings of a smiley face). :-) Thanks everyone for the great texts and emails on the subject!! The bus journey was 6 hours from Perth to Albany. The vast countryside was surprisingly flat moorland (ranges) with unusual shape trees and many sheep. Dairy farms and vineyards are plentiful. There are many crators, in the fields, which are apparently dams, dug out for the water to collect to feed the animals. Lots of ... read more

Hey everyone. Just a quick update today with a few photos. I'm still in Busselton and still pruning all week. Not a whole lot to report. The big news is i did in fact buy a car. It's a 95 ford falcon with a massive rear end to store all the crap i may accumulate. It set me back 2000, but i believe i can resell it in a city for twice the amount. It also runs on both Petroleum(or gasoline to Canadians) and natural gas(lpg). The lpg gas is almost half the price and it lasts longer as well. That should be good for the long road trips. The Pruning job is going very well at the moment. If i can bring myself to work a full 5 day week I can earn more than ... read more

Chris Skase alias Carol Brown reporting in with our adventures in the Wild West. A friend emailed me with the new name and said the authorities couldn’t catch him so maybe I should give it a try. Yes I’m still waiting on my police clearance and it is now beyond a joke. Surely real criminals wouldn’t have this much of a problem. John was working down at Marble Bar (2 hours away) the other week so I went for a ride and did the tourist visit. Very pretty place when you drive for hours in red dirt and just come across this little oasis. There was water in it but people say it is even more beautiful after the rains. Our garden is starting to look like a garden now not a paddock that has been ... read more
