Well, I'm on the move once more, currently writing from the State Library in Perth. It is a scorching +39 degrees today and hot all week so far! Yesterday, it was only +37 degrees and a nice pleasant day was spent at Cottesloe Beach, south of Perth with my Austrian friend, Doris. Three days ago, that very beach was closed when a 2.5 metre Great White shark showed up to run everyone out of the water and spoil the festivities! The sand is so white and the water is so blue, it's like a postcard. Not the peak of summer yet, so the waters of the Indian Ocean were a little, how shall we say, refreshing. But a great way to beat the heat all the same. We continued walking along the esplanade ending up at ... read more

On the 22nd of October- After we had searched high and low for wheels, Jenny found a fantastic deal on Gumtree for a deep blue 1983 (its older than I am) Toyota Hiace. It came with fridge, gas cooker, extendable roof, convertible chair-to bed situation (it makes a size-able double bed and instantly installable table (for drinking/playing cards/laptops etc). We traveled to Freemantle by train from Perth central station to visit our soon to be beloved mobile home. Upon meeting its owner Matthias; just outside the station, both Jenny and Nico took it for a spin and we decided (almost on the spot) to say yes there and then. After looking at some very bad/expensive/all of the above vans which had almost the same live-in setup as the one in front of our eyes. We were ... read more

So here I am again, I’ve had a few people asking me if I’m still alive and when the next blog installment was going to be so here it goes. The hostel has been full for so many weeks now and times have been fun in all sorts of ways. One of the funniest things is the names people have from other parts of the world. Considering the complexities and unusualness of my name you would have thought that any name which I came across would be on a par, but no. One morning Mark turned to me and said “This person’s having a laugh aren’t they?” Obviously I was quite intrigued; the Ozi Inn had received an e-mail from a Fanny Cancel checking in during September! We were in hysterics, surely no one uses the ... read more

So our 14 week, 11 country world trip has come to an end. It is nice to be home, back in familiar surroundings with family and friends. But what an experience it has been. We have seen so many wonderful sights, meet many wonderful and interesting people and seen the best and worst that much of the world has to offer. We have also seen the best and worst of ourselves. It is great to know how far we can be pushed and still come out the other side, still together as a family, definitely stronger for the experience. So what have I learned from our little jaunt. Firstly, and this I truly believe, Australia is a great place to live, with many opportunities for those who wish to take them. Secondly, you can fit anything ... read more

Hello all, So, I haven’t blogged for a bit but between working and working, sometimes there just aren’t enough hours or my ‘wittiness’ decides to take a nap due to the lack of sleep. I am currently suffering the after effects of too much wine and dealing poker games until the early hours but I’m feeling quite chirpy! The hostel is coming along nicely, Mark has been making improvements such as a new electronic door opening system. Guests think this is wonderful from a security point of view and of course they are not wrong, but the simple fact that Mark and I could then chill out in the back yard undisturbed by random peeps wandering in is much more appealing! The Ozi Inn has been running at full to almost full capacity for the last ... read more

We have now let Capetown behind - but not all our precious moments shared with family - and knowing that our memories cannot ever be erased!! Thanks to you all for making our time with you all in Capetown to very, very special. We look forward to seeing you all again - where - we wonder? Some of our impressions of Capetown: Despite enormous social problems (eg housing, unemployment, poverty, violence) there appears to us much happening to address these needs. The city is "world class" - litter free - Road systems are being upgraded Public transport improved Most people are friendly and obliging - there is a lot of laughter and smiling about! We feel it is a good place to visit - and certainly our family love ~Capetown life. Now - the next stage ... read more

G'day Mates. Firstly, we must apologise for the big delays in between blogs. It’s sometimes difficult to be at a computer long enough, have all the leads for the cameras, the money for the machine and the energy to bash them all out at once (poor us... so busy, eh?); however, a blog delight now awaits you… We took off from Melbourne on yet another flight and headed for the delights of Western Australia. At the rather disgusting looking ‘budget’ terminus we were greatly cheered up upon discovering that we were to share our flight with the one and only… ‘Kitten’ from Big Brother 6(?)!! For those of you who care, yes she still looks like a screaming lesbian. Anyway, we arrived at 3am and were swiftly collected by the wonderful Mark from the Ozi Inn ... read more

Well... its been a while since I blogged about anything exciting since we have been working and jsut mostly relaxing on sat/sun or drinking... one or the other. its all good. but this sunday I had a day to myself and met up with the perth 4x4 club. we went out to the powerline track and had an absolute blast out there. a very friendly group of peeps with some amazing vehicles. The track was a good drive. that pajero sure impressed me with how far I could push it. had a few close calls. nothing to bad. a little slip on 1 climb had me sliding backwards on frame while wheels were still trying for traction. the other was a steep climb with about a 3-4 foot exit height of steep sand that would of ... read more
