Seasons Greetings Blog Fans! Well, here we are, sat in LA's pissing rain writing our last ever blog. Awwww... We know you're as sad as us. The last 12 months, with the help of 19 flights, have flown by and now we find ourselves one sleep away from real life, real ale and real poverty! Anyway, enough crying. So, our last week in Mexico was spent by the beach in Puerto Escondido. This didn't go as well as planned as the bus there ended up taking 20 bloody hours. Nikki then developed the most annoying cough of the year resulting in Gail's visit to the pharmacia and, using her Spanish, asking for some 'tos' medicine (snigger). After moving from the giant red ant-biting hostel, we found ourselves an expensive room fully equipt with hammock. Still, we ... read more

Buenas dias amigos! Life has been pretty hectic of late and Mexico City is proving to be an amazing playground: it's huge, packed with roughly 20 million people and full of activities. It's time to go and make yourselves a nice cuppa, forget about all that snow outside and bond with The Knitted Characters. Ready? What better event is there to kick-start out adventures in the capital than a trip out to the dodgy side of town in order to watch midgets dressed as superheros and parrots wrestling? Mexican wrestling has retained its popularity since the 1950's and continues to be a huge sport here despite the fact that you must suspend your disbelief in order to enjoy it fully. From fat, sweaty old men sitting on people's faces to incredible acrobatic jumps off the ring, ... read more

Hola Amigos! Welcome once again avid readers to our first Mexican Blog. There are many, many pictures as Nikki couldn´t stop herself 'attaching' so grab yourselves a tequila shot, or bottle of Corona, and immerse yourselves in the first installment of our Central American adventure. Following our full-body searches in Fiji airport, multiple trips around LA airport's bus route, a fatty-food binge in Miami airport and utter confusion in Cancun airport, we eventually navigated our exhausted bodies to a brightly decorated room and slept, slept, slept… With only three weeks to make it to Mexico City in order to meet Nikki's brother, everybody warned us to miss out Cancun, The Concrete Capital of Crap, if only we'd have listened! It's scary how completely ruined the area is with 25miles of ugly high-rise hotels, privatised beaches and ... read more

Bula! Grab yourselves a cup of kava (traditional Fijian drink which tastes like mud) and settle down to enjoy our Fijian blog. We feel it's only appropriate to begin with our now somewhat traditional weather updates: yes, it rained for our three days in New Zealand; yes, it rained for our first three days in Fiji. 'All are punished.' Very briefly, we had a quick stint in Christchurch which, as some of you will be aware, suffered from a 7.4 earthquake in August. Bearing in mind we were still recovering from Lois and Bryan running us ragged, we did very little apart from look at the cracks caused in the roads, the damaged buildings and sleep. Oh, and caught an episode of Jeremy Kyle (the British shame). The most strenuous activity was Gail applying for a ... read more

G'day folks! A warm welcome to our avid readers. This is our final blog from the land of Ozzy, we only have 3 blogs left until our return so lap it up while you can. After leaving the lovely house-sitting job, we headed further down the east coast for a quick stop in Noosa Heads at the Flashpackers Inn. Here we had a surf lesson (both managed to stand up on the board; Gail can turn) and celebrated our two year anniversary by not eating pasta or noodles but something normal like fish. We also forgot to take any pictures here so you'll just have to imagine us surfing, sorry. We then headed down to Brisbane for 2 nights in a dirty Base Hostel whilst we impatiently waited for Nikki's Mum and Dad to arrive and ... read more

Goodbye to Perth; hello to Cairns! If you've been reading, you'll know that our life in Perth was full of hostel fun, yet lacking in financial gain so we decided to hop onboard our ninth flight (eight to go!) and head towards sunny Cairns. The good news about a delayed flight is that they arrive so late it consequently saves you a night's accommodation - talk about a good start! We checked in at 6am and for the first time in months, popped on some shorts and sun cream! Definitely some high hopes for Cairns apart from the problem that Gail's veneer snapped off (again) and our first job was finding a dentist. Her bloody teeth! We spent our first few days recovering from the annoyance that Gail had finally been offered a Perth job as ... read more

G'day Mates. Firstly, we must apologise for the big delays in between blogs. It’s sometimes difficult to be at a computer long enough, have all the leads for the cameras, the money for the machine and the energy to bash them all out at once (poor us... so busy, eh?); however, a blog delight now awaits you… We took off from Melbourne on yet another flight and headed for the delights of Western Australia. At the rather disgusting looking ‘budget’ terminus we were greatly cheered up upon discovering that we were to share our flight with the one and only… ‘Kitten’ from Big Brother 6(?)!! For those of you who care, yes she still looks like a screaming lesbian. Anyway, we arrived at 3am and were swiftly collected by the wonderful Mark from the Ozi Inn ... read more

G'day blog fans! Somebody has stolen our sun! Yes, we arrived in Melbourne in the peak of winter and have spent five weeks freeeeeezing cold! This may have been bad planning on our part but, despite the moaning, it has been really lovely to see the city and its surroundings in the winter months. Again, much to everybody’s surprise, Australia does have winter and reaches temperatures of 0 degrees at night. We came in search of the Australian dream, seeking fruit to pick in order to qualify for a second visa and top up our rapidly decreasing funds; unfortunately, contrary to the Government literature, this is not as easy as it seems, and we couldn’t find a single grape in need of our help. In light of this slight timing problem, (all the fruit had already ... read more

Welcome to the Vietnam Blog - Part Two. Firstly, it would be appropriate to start with an apology. We have been absent from your lives, inboxes and hearts for over 6 weeks now... or you may not have noticed if you're in England as it’s now glorious summer (we write this from a medium to cold Melbourne...grrr). Everything in the last two weeks of 'Nam seemed to begin with the letter 'H' so here we go... HOI AN We rocked up here on a night bus from Nha Trang. Billed as a ‘luxury bus' we had great expectations. Turns out it was ridiculously modern and uncomfortable, with AC blowing on us for the whole trip. Bring back the Indian Death Bus we say! Hoi An is a disgustingly cute French style town about half way up ... read more

Xin Chau Bloggees! There's no denying that from the first hour of arriving in Vietnam we knew that it was going to be exactly what we needed after the somewhat disappointment and frustration of Cambodia. Apart from a brief transition in Singapore, Vietnam brings us to the end of our Asian adventure and marks the end of our lazy days before the - eek!- working life of Fruit-pickers begins Down Under. Six weeks and counting.... We began our travels in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), south Vietnam after what turned out to be a rather long and hellish 14-hour bus ride over the border (incidentally, one of the most ridiculous and pointless border crossing check points ever as no security checked our bags and stamped our passports without even looking at us). Within one hour of ... read more
