Melbourne is home to some very popular little laneways which have everything from little shops, to cafes to bars. Leahanne and I joined a walking tour of the laneways to get some history on them and Melbourne. We got to try some chocolate, discover some neat little shops that you would never even know were there and learn some really interesting history. I now know why Melbourne's CBD grid was set on an angle. There once was a creek that flowed from the Yarra river and the man in charge of making Melbourne decided to put the road over the creek which was on an angle. The tour finished up at a little cafe for lunch. We ate our lunch and then Leahanne decided to take me to a couple of her fav laneway bars. One ... read more

We have safely returned home after a long weekend in Melbourne. Melb unusely put on nice weather - no rain - wahoo! Although Saturday was a maximum of 12 which is the same as the minimums in Perth so we were cold....but all is good. We stayed at the Mantra on Jolimont and i would guess it is about 3.5/4 star. We had a 2 bed apartment which was huge and they are currently refurbishing the bathrooms so it was all very newish and clean which was great. Best thing was it was very soundproof...we could not hear the trains below and couldnt even hear the kids calling out if the bedroom door was shut. Location is probably the only bad thing as it was a 10 min walk to the restaraunts in jolimont and 15 ... read more

So we're off in to sunny Melbourne in a few weeks for a weekend away - yay! But...unlike pre kids where we have eaten at great restaraunts, shopped in richmond and gotten drunk in St Kilda, now we need some toddler friendly ideas. We've been there maybe 5 times since the Midget was born and found a few child friendly restaraunts...the james squire brewery at docklands is pretty good and the Boathouse owned my Gary from Masterchef was nice and casual with a kiddies playground outside...any other ideas for nice toddler friendly restaraunts? For some reason i've never been to Docklands stadium for a footy game...we always tend to go to the 'G' 'cause if youre in melbourne that IS where you have to go. So that will be one of our plans for the weekend ... read more

All had ourr lat breakfast together in Hong Kong. Overnight there had been plently of activity and angst! Apparently Tux realised last the previous night that he had mislaid his new mobile phone. Eventually concluded that he had left it at the Chinese restaurant. Despite attempts last night he was unable to find out if they had it. Renewed efforts this morning, with the help of the concierge desk at YMCA eventually resulted in Tux getting his phone back from the restaurant. After breakfast all bar Stephanie and Tux went to Pinniisula next door and walked round the amazing shops and in the entrance hallway of the hotel. Different class! Eventually got all our bags packed, including additional hand luggage we had bought over there. Pre arranged limos did not arive on time, but after some ... read more

This is our office at this loss adjusting firm (insurance) in Melbourne. We were a newly appointed team, created to respond to the natural-catastrophe-rated storm of February 2011 in the sate of Victoria. We were working for 3 months towards settling the insurance claims of about 1000 households and small businesses that suffered water damaged to their building and contents. Our team leader was Jodie. Matthew was an assistant to claims officer Alexandra. I was a claim's assistant to officer Janelle and Daniel was assisting claims officer Brooke. We were the 7 musketeers of the VIC CAT TEAM. The team had bad habits. There was a big jar, that we filled in turn with mini chocolate treats. It helped us through the days of angry phone calls and lengthy report typing. We had many qualities: Alex ... read more

I wonder whether this thing still works... At worst, it doesn’t, and I’ve just published a post modern comment on the futile transience of modern communication. At best you’d all surely forgotten you were subscribed to my blog, but with any luck, an automatically generated email has recently arrived in your inbox, directing you to this essay of indeterminate length, which I am now beginning to write. I’m jumbling my timelines somewhat there, but you get the idea. If so, welcome back! Let’s not pretend for a moment that this entry heralds any sort of new beginning: we’ve trodden this path many times now; any proclamation that I shall henceforth maintain my blogging habits with impeccable regularity would be heeded by only the most naïve of ears. Still, I hope it’s nice to regather after all ... read more

Today we woke fairly early for a big day. We headed down to the yarra and walked around for a bit. The we were on our way to the Eureka sky tower! In our travels we came across 2 Irish street preformers! No one else had stopped but we thought they looked hilerious so stopped to watch. (Which im so glad we did now!) At first they were quite average.. but VERY funny!! Once they got into it more, you could see they clearly had a talent!!! Such a good start to the day. They were called Lord of strut, check em out! =) I had been to the Eureka tower before, but my brother hadn't so we went there. Im terrified of heights, but ever since climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge I'm more ok with ... read more

We went to the museum today. Again, ive been before, but it had been a few years and i had forgotten most of it, and im sure of new exbiditions! My bro hasnt been to melbourne as mentioned in other blogs, so this is why we went. We spend about 30mins looking at farlap! This was my 3rd time to melbourne, and 3rd trip to see farlap! My mums OBSESSED with horses and just HAD to see him again! O.o They had a new section, old buildings made to the olden days which was pretty creative!! The stuffed animals and the dinosaur section was also pretty cool. They had a tribute to the koala who was burnt badly here in bush fires, and was famous for drinking water from some people. This was rare because koalas ... read more

We woke up a bit late today, but today was the Melbourne Zoo day. I couldnt beleive how big it was, we ran outta time but saw it all except the seals and the birds. I wasnt too fussed because im not a fan of birds!! We dont have elephants at the Adelaide zoo, so it was good to see them, they had some babies too so that was pretty cool. I got some close ups of some butterflies in the butterfly crib which was really cool, but very humid!! I love turtles, and through the zoos exbitions, they had turtles everywere and i thought they were pretty cute! The giant turtles were cute too, they were trying to mate haha!! they were really close to us, i could pat them! :) We saw some cool ... read more
