Yet another exciting update to what has been going on in Australia. To be honest there is not much exciting going on, which is actually nice. Life here is actually like 'real life' now. Going to work everyday and cleaning and hanging out with my roommates on the weekend has been the norm, and I don't see that being much different if I was at home. It is nice to finally be settled. My room is finally all in order. With some late additions from my friend Andrew, I now have a TV and a shelf (which there was no way I could have put up without help!) So now I have absolutely no intention of moving, because I have way too much stuff and my room is too perfectly set up. In other news around ... read more

Well it has been a while, but then again there is not a lot to report... Work is interesting. I am still trying to get a hang of what my job entails. Like I said previously, I am working for a company called Servier, which is headquartered out of France. I am their "Theraputic units coordinator" in the international center for therapeutic research (ICTR). Well the job title sounds fancy, but basically I am a professional drug dealer ;). I am responsible for dispatching drugs to differnt centers and doctors. They are doing many differnt drug trials, so I need to import all the drugs into the country, and send them out to where they are supposed to be. This is my second week and I am still learning. I am temping for someone who is ... read more

Well seemingly in the tradition of Australia so far, I am still seraching for a job. First it was a place to stay when I got to the airport, then an apartment, then a bed, and now its a job... In good news, I had an interview yesterday and I have another one tomorrow. They are with job agencies that work with companies, and I am trying to find some temp admin work. During my interview I had to do some tests to show my proficieny with typing, excel, and word. I did well on these thankfully, so she said she would be willing to recommend me to places with no reservations. However, she said work is really slow right now. It is the end of the financial year in Australia so that means not only ... read more

As promised, here are pictures of my new apartment!!! My apartment is on a kind of dark and residental street, which at first made me think I was not going to like it. My apartment tour was at night, and the building doesn't look much from the outside. Once I got buzzed into the gate, I was pleasantly surprised. It was cute beyond the security gate. There is a sidewalk down the middle of the complex lined by trees, hedges, and street lamps. It is quiet and cute, it almost seems like a little resort or something. My unit is in the very back, which is nice because it is quiet becasue it is far from the street! The only time this has been a problem was yesterday when we were trying to move my new ... read more

Hello All! Things are going well over in Australia at the moment. I was finally able to find an apartment which is lovely (I will post pictures of it soon!). It is in East Brunswick, so its about 20-25 minutes of the city by tram. It is close to the Univeristy of Melbourne, so there are a lot of students around. It is not the most perfect area ever, but I really like the apartment so its worth it. Glad that I found somewhere, because for a while there it seemed as if I would never be able to find a place to stay. I get to move in today if I want, but I still need to track down a bed, so it may be a few more days. I am sharing with 3 other ... read more

Ahhhhh, on the road again, if even for a few days! I was determined to do some "good stuff" with the girls in the greater Melbourne area while they were here, so a day after we got back from Sydney I had arranged for us to hire a car, and set off down the Great Ocean Road. Now, obviously I have driven in Australia before, but driving in Melbourne presents a whole new list of problems due to the "feckin trams". Main problem being, you have to turn right from the left hand lane if you are crossing a tram track. Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either. Also you have to remember to remain behind a stopped tram, even if there is room to pass on the left hand lane, cos if you do ... read more

On boxing day off we went in search of the shops as the guys we were spending christmas with wanted to have a full on roast dinner, as they had been in a hostel for months with no oven. I on the other habnd would have loved a bbq, but I gave in and aloud the crew a roast. We did not hold back on anything we had raost pots, pumpkin, parsnip, carrots, ham ,turkey and home made stuffing. It was a great morning we all help prepare the dinner. The drinks started flowing arond 11.30am and thats when the party began. Christmas hats were a must. The weather was lovely so we ... read more

Ahhh yes, the three P's of travel: Preparation, planning and packing your dacks with the terror of it all. I first decided to go on a trip to Thailand around six months ago. It was originally a friends idea and i got on board with a ferocious enthusiasm that surprised even me. I imagined us trekking through jungles, sipping beers on busy side streets and arguing with tuk tuk drivers as the best fucking team to ever explore Thailand. But things fall through and people's plans change (as is life) and by the time i was thinking about buying a ticket, it was me and me alone holding the torch for Thailand. I wrestled with the idea of going it solo for ages, just too scared to book a ticket and break out of routine. Courtesy ... read more

All went very smoothly with the flight, but I think we'd both forgotten (possibly by choice) what a nightmare it can be getting from the airport to the hostel with a 20 kilo backpack!! We arrived to find that the airport at Avalon (the smaller Melbourne airport) was actaully more chaotic than Larnaca Airport!! When we did eventually get our tickets and Any had eventually got our bus tickets to town we had to navigate our way out. The bus journey seemed to take forever, and even though we'd paid for a ticket that dropped us closer to our hostel the bus driver left everyone at the bus terminal and drove off!! It was a nightmare getting out of the terminal and then getting our head around the chaos that greeted us outside, there were trams ... read more

Well, here we are - just over a week in and already feels like we've been here ages. We arrived on Monday 22nd October and took a taxi to our friends warehouse apartment in Brunswick, we got there about 17:30. The apartment is awesome, it is in a huge old warehouse that was split into apartments about ten years ago. David & Stephanie bought this one earlier this year and gutted it, remodelling it into an open plan 'New York' style apartment. Hardwood floors, granite worktops and high ceilings. Very nice. We spent Monday evening settling in and catching up. Tuesday we hit the ground running. We headed into the city to activate our bank accounts that we had opened from the UK, they ordered our bank cards and cheque books. We arranged a hire car ... read more
