Day 12 - Eyes open, wide awake! Waking up in the beach house is just that little bit more relaxed than waking up at Harrison Street. There is no early morning walk, there is no school to get the girls organised for and there is nobody up!! We are off to look at the Nissan Terrano this morning which means a trip back towards the city so on the way we’re also going to collect a coffee table which Anna lay-byed at ‘The Mellow Canary’ in Mt Eliza We’re using Anna’s car today as the coffee table is probably too big for the Statesman! It takes about an hour to get back to Moorabin as we go via Frankston to look at a couple of caravan places. We actually find a couple that are really good ... read more

Day 11 - Today was one of those days when waking up at 6.30am and actually getting out of bed to go for a good early morning walk, was not the go! Back to sleep we went and eventually crawled out, headaches in tow, at just gone 9am! Grant is still on the couch! We’re going to the beach house today, the girls are at Anna’s Mums house and we told Daph that we’d pick her up at 10.30am! Now, with the Howells motto “Early is the only way” at risk of being destroyed in one fell swoop we rang Daph to give her another half an hour! Showered, changed, room cleaned, packed and ready to go to the beach house we trotted off to collect the girls as we really wanted to catch up with ... read more

Day 10 - Wednesday 6th May Another day spent hot on the trail of our adventure vehicle. We had some good leads today from Grant who spent a gruelling hour on the phone to various car yards in the Victoria state! What we had begun to realise, that there were very few diesel cars in a 100km radius was becoming a reality! We followed up leads in Heidelburg, Preston and then Thomastown looking out for other possibilities on the way. Heidelberg was a 3lt Prado - the right vehicle but the wrong price and the sellers wouldn’t budge. Preston was a full on leather interior within a Landcruiser - that was a big no from me! Thomastown, our final yard of the morning was on a recommendation (friend of a friend) and the guy we met ... read more

Days 8 & 9 have been full on car search days! The criterion is 4WD, mid size, diesel, 150'000 kms or less and no sales flannel required! We've been to Coburg to test drive a Prado - nice car but too much money so we moved onto Somerton where the right type of car, with the right type of fuel is available for the right type of money but something's not right despite the immediate declaration from the sales staff ‘I am very honest so I tell you everything!’ There's no service history and the sales gentleman says the car has been in a slight accident. Hmmm. That's a disappointment. We head home to source an Oz mobile number (which we now have) and mobile broadband (which we haven't got yet!). The evening is spent reading ... read more

Day 7 was all about recovery! At one stage only I (Sarah) and Amy were awake mid afternoon!! There were 'nana naps' going on all over the place! We were up reasonably early but there was no morning walk! Grant and Darryl went for shopping supplies; bacon, eggs, crunchy nut cornflakes etc etc. There's nothing like bacon and eggs to wipe away the heavy eyes of the night before! After breakfast, which to be honest was more like lunch, the household crashed! Charlotte & Amy had been playing in the tent and building a new cubby house under the family room table, things had gone quiet and we realised Charlotte was fast asleep in the tent! That left Amy at liberty to start a new game of 'poofee racing' up at down the solid wood floors! ... read more

Day 6 - Box Hill North Today was all about the footie! Hawthorn v Carlton. Clearly a walk was in order to set us up for the day from which I (Sarah) was late getting back and was blamed for making us miss the 12:50pm train from Box Hill! Luckily it wasn't just down to me so my guilt was short lived, there was a crowd travelling to the MCG with us and our good friend Dale with young son Ben was late too! We eventually set off from Harrison Street to the Box Hill train station where the atmosphere began to take hold! Firstly we needed to purchase our train tickets unlike Darren and Grant who both get a free ride courtesy of being officers of the law! We had no idea what ‘zone’ the ... read more

Day 5 - Early morning walks are a great way to start the day! It's so funny taking Henry out, he just loves winding up all the other dogs on the route that are behind fences and gates! Naughty boy!! We spent more time this morning scouring the internet for cars and dealers and then planning the route to view them! This turned out to be a good idea and our journey today was much better with less time sitting in traffic! We hope we've found a vehicle and possibly a caravan - a Holden Jackaroo 3lt TDI (2002 with 111,000 on the clock) and a weeny caravan with double bed, microwave, seating area & pull out awning. We've looked at so many vehicles now and we were heading down the Nissan Patrol / Toyota Landcruiser ... read more

Day 4 - We were both awake really early this morning to the sounds of what we thought was a bird or a possum! Hoping it would be a possum, we crept to the window to have a look ... only to find that the noise was from a piece of cellophane stuck in the heating duct which was being blown about as it had just come on! Doh!! The morning was crisp and gorgeously bright but freezing cold! It was 2.5 degrees and reportedly the coldest morning around Melbourne for 39 years! It didn't stop me (Sarah) and Anna going for an early morning (7am) walk and then me (Sarah) and Darryl headed back out again to get a paper, muffins and bread! No walk at that time of the morning for little Henry though...Anna ... read more

Day 3 - Now what you have to remember is that this is the calm before the storm, so to speak! Hence the 'quiet publish' approach to the blogs over the next couple of days! Today has been a chill-ax day of unpacking! Not very exciting to you guys I wouldn't have thought but it's been amusing for us as the realisation sneaks home in terms of 'why the heck did I pack that' and 'where are all my T-shirts'?! All of Darryl's clothing seems to be here but shock, horror Sarah might have to go shopping as she doesn't seem to have brought much! Well, well, how did that happen?! It's been quite a laugh untangling all the electrical stuff we've brought! Charger for this, charger for that, mouse for this, mouse for that, batteries ... read more
