Day 12 - Eyes open, wide awake! Waking up in the beach house is just that little bit more relaxed than waking up at Harrison Street. There is no early morning walk, there is no school to get the girls organised for and there is nobody up!! We are off to look at the Nissan Terrano this morning which means a trip back towards the city so on the way we’re also going to collect a coffee table which Anna lay-byed at ‘The Mellow Canary’ in Mt Eliza We’re using Anna’s car today as the coffee table is probably too big for the Statesman!
It takes about an hour to get back to Moorabin as we go via Frankston to look at a couple of caravan places. We actually find a couple that are really good examples and would suit our needs. But today is all about test driving the car! ‘Our’ little PIE is still in the yard when we get there and it’s behind a few others but they’re just shifting things about because a couple have been to see it and their son is coming back later this evening. Sales tactic Number 1?! We take the car for
a test drive and we love it … but we don’t really let on too much. There are 2 spare tyres and a UHF radio and the engine looks clean and runs well. It needs a Roadworthy Check and we want a mechanic to service it too. We agree the sale price, they try it on a bit but we try it on too and eventually we have a contract of sale and we agree to pick the car up on Tuesday once the roadworthy has been done. Thank goodness that’s over, dealing with used car salesmen is not our favourite activity! We’ll be totally confident once the car’s had a good service by Grant’s friend Pete too, he’s already booked it in for Wednesday!
So we waved goodbye to PIE and moved on to collect the brass legged, glass topped coffee table for Anna’s ladies lounge! Mt Eliza is a lovely little place and The Mellow Canary is a very stylish little store and we immediately understand why Anna likes it so much! With the coffee table loaded into the car we’re hot footing it back to the beach house having collected some ice on the way!
Everyone is
still in their pyjamas, at 2.30 in the afternoon!!! We have a quick bite to eat and then go off for a walk with Anna, Daph and Henry leaving Charlotte and Amy playing and Grant cooking tonight’s feast which is curry and already the aroma is right through the house!
It’s a great walk through the quiet streets and we eventually make it to the beach where Henry is unleashed! There’s not many people down there but Henry soon meets some doggie friends and is having a great time! He’s so funny with the sea but soon just dives in, then sits in it with a silly look on his face!! He charges around on the sand and dives back in to the sea, he really is so funny. We walked quite a long way along the beach where the skyline is bright but you can feel in the air that rain is not far away! On the way back along the beach we meet a family with a 7 month old King Charles Spaniel, a gorgeous little dog called Maggie whom Henry is very taken by! Dragging Henry away from Maggie wasn’t an easy task but we managed it
and headed for home. We’d only got a little way through the streets when Henry sat down and refused to move any further! He needed to be carried so we all took turns - whoever had the lead when he stopped had to pick him up and carry him!
We needed to clean our feet off so Anna went ahead and opened the door while we used the neighbours outside tap! The minute the door was opened the curry aroma rushed out - we were in for another treat! One was a tried and tested Rogan Josh with extra cardamom which Anna spotted immediately when asked to do the taste test! She gives it the thumbs up and moves on to the next which is a new one to Grants repertoire! A chicken curry from Shri Lanka! This also gets huge approval and dinner is just around the corner from being served! First there’s the entre of cheeses with quince paste and rice crackers on the veranda … with a couple of beers! Grant tests out our mobile broadband connection to do his Footy dream team and we’re pretty impressed with the speed. The big test will be uploading the
blog and some photo’s of course.
Dinner was a huge success, how does Grant do it! We’re all stuffed full, again, and slouch on the couch to watch a bit of Friday night TV but just as we’re all falling asleep Grant does the decent thing and starts to tidy the kitchen which prompts the rest of us to fly into action! The washing up of the enormous cooking pots is completed in no time at all and then it’s back to the couches! Tonight there is a choice of entertainment. In the main lounge room there is Footy, alternatively in the main bedroom there is a film ‘Monster-in-law’! Predictably Anna and the girls shoot off to watch the film leaving us watching the footy. Just before she left to avoid the Footy, Amy typed the following herself on the laptop (she’s 6)
Amy charlotte anna grant jordie henry and family.
We had a nice day. Charlotte and me watched
The island princess. We had salad and potatogems.
Amy and Charlotte are fantastic fun to have around and they’re both very bright. Amy was ‘Student of the week’ at school last week and tonight Grant gets a text
from Marty saying that Charlotte got ‘Student of the week’ today … but of course she wasn’t there to pick it up because she is at the beach house with us. What a shame but well done both girls, we’re very proud of you.
So at this moment in time, Hawthorn are getting their buts kicked by Essendon! The score is an unexpected 18 - 8. After last weekend’s tremendous effort against Carlton, we were thinking that Hawthorn would walk it tonight but they just can’t kick straight.
Tomorrow is our last full day at the beach house before we return home on Sunday for Mothers Day. 4 more sleeps till we pick up our ‘PIE’!
Lots of love
Dar & Sar (and fingers crossed PIE!)
