Hello Bloggers and followers, This morning we had another lie in, with Kaye having breakfast all laid out ready for us when we woke again. Neil and I then went for a walk from their house following the path for about 15 minutes that lead to a road with a few wineries on it, one after the other. There are approximately 250 vineyards in McLaren Vale with 180ish that have cellar doors. It was an amazing morning as we could go into the wineries and taste whatever wine and how ever many we wanted FOR FREE! I think we tried about 6 different wines at our first stop (Primo); probably another 6 wines at the second one, (Hamilton) this one also had free olive oil and dip tasting (yummy!). Then at the third winery (Wirra Wirra) ... read more

Hi People, We woke up about 8am; it was the longest lie in for what seems in ages!! Rodger and Kay’s spare room was so comfy!!! We both slept so soundly!! We planned to get the train into Adelaide and have a look around, book up the ocean road tour and get tickets to the England VS Bangladesh game on the Monday!! Kaye laid out an amazing breakfast of cereal; toast and fruit (peaches off the tree outside) and then Rodger drove us to the train station. He told us to take as long as we want, just ring him as we get the train back and he would pick us up!!! (So spoilt) It’s easy to get from Seaford (Rodgers area) to Adelaide (about 1 hour) as they are both the last stops on the ... read more

... read more

Vendanges

... read more

31 Wine Country – South Australia 20 April 2012 Got a bit messed up with the photos, etc, hence entry no30. Anyway, picking up from No 29, forgot to mention for those of you with a map, Nuttbush is about 40km west of Port Augusta, SA. Our route took us there and back into familiar territory as we passed through PA on our way north in our camping trip in early August (See blog no 16 Darwin to Darwin) This time we headed SE until we passed through the Clare Valley and reached the Barossa Valley where we camped for a couple of days. As it was Easter Weekend, everywhere was full and we were lucky to get a spot at Nooriupta in the heart of the Barossa. Drinking, eating and restocking was the order of ... read more

Walking into Christies

Oceania » Australia » South Australia » McLaren Vale February 10th 2012

Had a wonderful opportunity for a break at a Christies Beach house where we could do some solid walking for 3 days.....We decided on wearing boots and backpacks - had INTENDED on walking with the poles but that didn't happen... I am still trying to get the backpack sorted into its most comfortable position with strap adjustment / way that it is packed etc ... the pack is a Deuter 65L, and specifically designed for women.... this allows for narrower shoulder width and a more curved hip belt. It can be adjusted for varying back lengths....it weighs just over 1kg..... which NOW seems a little heavy for our purpose of walking for 5+ weeks.... many others on the Camino forum walk with ULTRA light backpacks...but I'm sure it will be ok.... the trick is (apparently) to ... read more

Happy Australia Day to you all! Today's a public holiday here in Oz, and a controversial one at that, seeing as it celebrates the landing of Captain Cook onto Australian land and taking it from the Aboriginal people. The indiginous people have had a few things to say on the matter (not least a few protests to be had, which led to the Welsh Wizardess, PM Julia Gillard being unceremoniously dumped into a waiting car, minus one very expensive shoe, to escape the backlash of said protesters). All other Australians can think of nothing better than to thrown an inflatable thong (no, not what you're thinking - thong is Aussie for flip flop. Takes some getting used to when people say 'my thongs have given me blisters' etc...) into the ocean to claim a world record, ... read more
