G'day from Magnetic Island! We (Chris, Jack and I) left Cape Trib on Sunday and made our way down to Mission Beach. We were staying in a lovely place called the Mission Beach Retreat. We went to the beach in the afternoon - had a swim within the stinger net enclosure and played some frisbee. In the evening we had a lovely italian meal. Yesterday morning we took the bus down to Townsville and had a wonder round the art deco centre - not much happening there. Then we got the 6pm boat over to Magnetic Island. We are staying in a lovely place called Tropical Palms Inn - today we are hoping to go exploring for the 200 wild Koala living on the island! Tommorrow we are heading to Airlie beach and going to stay ... read more

Hey everyone Once again sorry for the lack of contact but Oz has very temperamental Internet both in the fact that its sometimes hard to find and also once you get online the Internet doesn't always stay connected, also my laptop decided to pack up and at the same time the memory card for my camera broke and it wiped all the photos!! Luckily i had backed all of them up on my laptop otherwise i would have lost everything which would have been devastating. Anyway Magnetic Island, i didn't know a great deal about the island before i got there and to be honest i don't really know much more now, the island is one of the only places in Oz you can see wild koalas which i did, there's one specific area on the ... read more

Met lots of people at mission beach and most of them are heading down the east coast so we should bump into them quite often. There was a spontaneous party on the beach at night time that kirsty attended but I went to bed. On our last full day at mission beach we did the Kennedy walk. This was a very long walk because it was about an hour just to the start of the walk and then a 2.5 hour walk once you get there, it ended up being very tiring because of the Australia heat. The walk was really nice though and took us to other bays including lugger bay, tamo shanter point and kennedy bay. The next day we got the ox bus down to Townsville where we got a ferry across to ... read more

We got of the Greyhound bus at Townsville and go the ferry then bus to our YHA Koala Village on Magnetic Island. Our accomodation is the world tiniest little hut surrounded by bush, saw loads of possums and wallabies here they come really close as they must be used to people. The main street consists of about 3 restuarants, 1 pub and 2 shops. The whole of Magnetic Island closes at 10pm. Crazy. The beach we are closest to, Horseshoe bay is the only one that is open as a croc was spotted at a nearby beach and due to media nonsense with the guy in Cooktown being muched by Charlie they have to shut then all down bar ours with has a net around it. Poor croc is only looking around to relocate he wouldn't ... read more

Magnetic Island… The journey from Cairns to Townsville was quite a long one. Luckily for me, I slept for most of it. Unlucky for Ecto, he had to drive. It took about four and a half hours in total with a few stops on the way, photo opportunities and food stops. One of these stops was at a small red neck town called Cardwell. The big Fish and Chip sign beckoned us in and I have to say it was a massive mistake! It was the funniest place I have ever seen. We walked through doors of this shop to find selves stocked with food from the eighties and fading posters on the greasy walls. A woman bursts through the door from the back of the room, behind the counter, if you can call a chest ... read more

Magnetic Island Up at 7 to get on the bus all the way to Townsville. Leyla and I managed to pass the time by sleeping through the entire journey. We got the ferry out to Magnetic Island which I have to say is Heaven - I actually believe Magnetic Island is what Heaven looks like. Our hostel - base was just gorgeous, like Airlie beach our hostels were small little huts with bunk beds in - but these hostels were clean. The hostel had a big open bar right on the beach. Palm trees which were lit up at night and a little pool to sit round. Leyla and I walked to the "town" which was one cafe and a supermarket. One thing I will say about Australia so far is that every cafe and ... read more
