For the past 3 nights I have been living at sea on a boat called Spank Me. There was 20 of us and 4 crew members. It was all very exciting as I'd never been sailing before...and what a way to start, around the Whitsunday Islands... Our first day we went to Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island...this sand was the most softest and whitest sand that I have ever seen in my life. It is 90 something percent silica you just totally sank in it...the sea water would come across certain sections allowing you to wade through to get to an area completely surrounded by water... In the afternoon we sailed to Luncheon Bay and I had my first go at snorkelling...the reef was so colourful and suprisingly close to the beach...it was really shallow too ... read more

Hi, Ken here. Some of you will be aware that it is Linda's big 50 next month (June 11th to be exact.) I have been asked about birthday cards and how people could get them to her. Well, here is a plan! I have found out that travellers can pick up mail from local post offices. We are going to be in a place called Maroochydore for the whole of June, therefore anyone wishing to send a birthday card should address it to: Linda Thomas c/o Maroochydore Post Office Maroochydore Queensland Australia I am also holding a surprise birthday BBQ party for her to which you are all invited!! Look forward to seeing you there!!! Cheers, Ken... read more

I've crossed the Tropic of Capricorn, and yes, it's totally tropical man! But anyway, I made it to Airlie Beach, bright and early on Monday morning. I'd bumped into my old mates from 1770 - Andy The Manc and Grandpa (Chris) The Sweed - on the bus which was great cause Andy is a little cutey and the old Manc-bonding got us off to a good start, so I followed them into the hostel they'd booked - Airlie Waterfront Hostel, cheap digs, good views although a bit run-down. The next 3 days were spent out on the piss with various groups: Andy, Grandpa, the Sweedish girls, Jacinta and Gillian the Irish girls, Gemma and Emma from 1770 - I felt truely popular! Leslie from 'Classic Sailing Experience' had rung me several times to worryingly inform me ... read more

Arrived in Airlie Beach on 3rd May. Airlie Beach looks like a smaller version to Cairns: it has a lot of fast food places to eat, and quite a good nightlife. It also has a lagoon by the sea complete with barbecues to chill out through the day. The main point of any stop in Airlie Beach is to go sailing on the Whitsunday Islands, we’d booked to do that between Friday and Sunday so we had a couple of nights in Airlie first. On the first night we played the customary drinking games (Keeping things cheap) with our room mates, we stayed at the Magnums hostel here as well- our 8 person dorm was pretty cool, there were a couple of Irish girls, a Canadian called Jeric (soon changed to Jericho!) and a Frenchman called ... read more

Well, I took Sashas advice and just drank water last night and Im not planning on drinking for the rest of my trip. Which is only one week but still. Im in airlie beach until wednesday and will be arriving in Cairns by Friday. Ill spend a few days there and then fly back 'home' to sydney where I have a job interview for a place like sport chek. I do have millions of pictures to upload but it takes too much time when im paying for internet. I miss my comments from everyone. Make sure everyone gets a mic so I can talk to them online when back in sydney. Happy birthday to Marcel, sasha, Angie, and my mom that all occured in the past two weeks. Im off to go hang out with Shayle ... read more

Well its that time again folks - you know the part where i tell you what a horrible time i'm having in this god awful country (He he he!) I'm sitting in an internet cafe in Airlie Beach trying to type but having trouble focusing on the keyboard as i have just stepped off a boat and feel like i'm still on it (and no i'm not drunk). I took a little trip out to the Whitsunday islands (so called because they were discovered by Captain Cook on Whitsunday - see its worth reading this you learn so much!). I set off on Saturday afternoon on a catamaran called the Pride of Airlie and we sailed for about 3 hours before we arrived at what would be our base for the 3 days we would be ... read more

Hey all, how you all doing? let me know, hate not speaking to people enough, it sucks! Anyways, spent about 10 days in Airlie beach and here is how it went... A long long time ago, in a single street far far away, we arrived in the tiny coastal town of Airlie Beach, home to the Whitsundays sailing trips! So annoyed that we had to wait 9 days to get on our trip we set into an extremely boring routine of sleeping, reading books, going to the lagoon for a bit to through a ball around, and eating in either subway or macdonalds - also cooked a little - pasta, beans on toast etc! all extremely healthy! this is pretty much all i can think to say bout the first 8 days! we watched spurs draw ... read more

So James completed his scuba diving course and is now a certified diver! We dived down to a wreck and saw a 1.5m turtle from about 30cm away - very cool. Also looked around the shipwreck which has now become an artificial reef with lots of exotic fish and the like. After finishing the course we drove on up to Rockhampton - to a scrappy looking campsite on the outskirts of the city. We were camped along the banks of a great big dirty river - there were signs up everywhere saying to watch out for crocs. James was very excited but Anne got very scared after hearing a snorting sound coming from the undergrowth. James investigated unfortunately only finding a old guy snoring. The weather was still very warm and sunny although getting increasingly humid. ... read more

hello hello!! So I left off about to leave Rainbow Beach - Dave, Chris, and Shane - the lovely lads from Leeds were kind enough to give me a lift all the way to 1770. We ended up sharing a dorm, and that evening we were also joined by Orla (the Irish contingent from TEAM B of the Fraser Islanders). That evening Shane cooked a lovely pasta meal...and I went for a 'nap' - however, this short snooze turned into a much needed 12 hour sleep fest. The next day Dave, Orla and I went to a surf lesson! When we got to the surf shop, we were met by the owner of the store- who was the living, breathing generalisation that people make of surfer boys - long blond hair, each sentence ending with 'bro', ... read more

Trods Australiens ... read more
