Today we changed campsites to Hidden Valley. When we got there we set up the tent and got a couple of things ready, went to some camping shops, the water front and the city. Then we came back, we came to meet the gas fitter who was fitting the gas pipe on our trailer, then we found out the camper trailer was invaded by ants so then we moved pitch and cleared all the ants up. We couldn't be bothered to cook dinner so went to the cafe. I had wedges and a can of sunkist. Then we went back to the tent and went to bed, the tent is white as Mum but talcum powder everywhere to keep the ants out. In the morning we had to go to a random place called UES to ... read more

Today we went to Kakadu, we went on a river cruise, we saw 2 Jabiru, 9 crocodiles, 2 kingfishers and 6 sea eagles. The next day we went for a walk to a billabong. It was so hot I had to put my feet in a sink of water. Next we went to Nourlangie Rock and saw some aboriginal art. Then we did a big walk up a rock to a look out. I saw two bushfires. I saw lots and lots and lots of trees. I saw lots and lots of stone country. We went back to our campsite and made damper, I had chocolate with my damper. The next day we went to Borwali and then Jabiru. There was a bakery at Jabiru that had the best sausage rolls ever!!! We had to book ... read more

We are now truly settled in Darwin and just loving the lifestyle and fantastic weather. Pete and I were very fortunate to be offered the first jobs that we applied for so Pete is working at the local supermarket as a shelf filler and I am a sales consultant for Travelex at Darwin Int'l Airport. It is wonderful to receive payslips after so long and see our bank account climb upwards instead of always dipping downwards! We are in with a great bunch of fellow permanent dry season campers and share a laugh with them most nights during our happy hours! We are both biking to work and feeling fitter because of it. Darwin is very flat so it is not difficult to bike anywhere and have even biked to the city which took an hour ... read more

Geo: -12.4613, 130.842 Broome to Darwin via Kimberley and Kakadu 15th - 29th JuneWe survived our camping trips, just, but where do I start describing them? The 9 day journey across Western Australia and into Northern Territory was fantastic. It is not everyone's vision of bliss as we travelled long distances over rough roads, constantly covered in red dust (and black soot when collecting firewood), climbed and clambered over rocks and escarpments, had 3 showers (2 warm) in 9 days and worst of all, the pleasure of bush toilets – trowel and paper, which in hard stony country is quite a challenge. When we first boarded our vehicle Jim and I both had the same thought, what on earth have we done? Especially as we hit our heads climbing aboard for the first few times. Jim's ... read more

We hung out in Darwin for 5 days. Caught up with another of Andi's cousins for dinner one night, took an evening harbour cruise and generally chilled out for a bit. Andi enjoyed the Mindal beach markets almost as much as the sand flys enjoyed her. Took a very interesting heritage walk one morning around Darwin center. Biggest hit for the kids, the Darwin wave pool.... read more

Heading north from Katherine we have stopped the night in Litchfield National Park in the camping ground at Wangi Falls. There is a short track from here that leads to the swimming hole at the base of the falls and it is just magical and justifiably very popular with locals and tourists alike. The water was so refreshing, given that recently it has been well over 32+ degrees most days. The spot has just been given the all clear as to being croc free and is checked every day but one can’t help but keep looking around and down to the bottom given that it is super clear to see if they have maybe missed one. We had a bad night at the campsite with hundreds of mosquitoes getting inside the van so we moved to ... read more

Just a (very) quick update on Singapore before I get onto Darwin... Apologies for the delayed contact by the way, its been a busy few days. I got up early again on my final day in Singapore to begin the tour... Unfortunately, it was pretty disappointing and definitely not worth the money. My own fault I suppose, we spent the whole day seeing all the places I'd already been to myself on the previous day (on my five hour exploration!). Marina Bay, Gardens, Little India (having just arrived from the 'real' India - this was a complete copout), Chinatown, various Buddhist Temples etc. Oh well, this time at least I had some company, mostly Australians, a few Americans... surprisingly I was the only 'Brit' though. I won't be making the same mistake of paying for another ... read more

16/1/13 We landed in Darwin at around 3.20am, and went through immigration and customs, hoping to be delayed as long as possible, seeing as we had no hotel to go to until later on. We were through to arrivals by 4am, and found a table near the only cafe in the arrivals area. We got a caffeine based drink to try and keep us going, and a managed to sign on to the wifi at the airport- which kept us occupied for a while! We got something to eat after a while (first taste of how expensive Australia is!), then decided to get a taxi around 7am to our hotel. It cost us $27, exchange rate about $1.5 to £1. To our surprise and joy, the lovely lady on the reception desk at our hotel let ... read more
