Today was the marathon day! I was a little worried about patsy because she was pretty sick last night - we woke up pretty early but then got stuck in a rush of 10K'ers and patsy got to the starting line a little later than would be desired. it was a chilly day, and windy too! I headed over to the opera house where the finish line was and then made my way back along the course to the 38km mark or so. the marathon was really through the heart of the city and were a ton of shops that were closed. it felt like boston a la the DNC. it is pretty crazy seeing her come running along past 24 miles and then see me and start talking about how she's feeling and the race ... read more

We preface by saying that this entry will be pretty short. the last two days we spent in Manly, Australia...catchin' some surf (dude), and finding out how nosediving is REALLY done. (Matt wants to mention that getting your head smashed with a surfboard + waves doesn't hurt as bad as it looks)(Patsy agrees. you should try it sometime) We crossed the Harbor this morning and walked through the Royal Botanical Gardens --and saw BATS!!! LOT'S OF THEM!!! and BIG ONES!!! They sleep in the trees during the day, and go out and catch their food at night. Tomorrow is our Blue Mountains trip where we hope to see the three sisters, throw a boomerang, learn to play the didjeridoo (i'm sure we botched that one), and (patsy's request) take a picture with a koala:) ahh... We ... read more

Last night Rachel and I met up with Brendan, her friend Debbie's good friend/boyfriend from Sydney. After a seafood dinner at Darling Harbour, and a drink he took us to sleep at his house (real beds!). I was a bit jet lagged and at dinner i had hit this wall where all i wanted to do was sleep. And i slept well! After Rachel and I finally finished planning-- and for the record, i love that girl to death, but we really shouldn't plan things together-- we ate some breakfast. The off to the Blue Mountains. We took lots of photos, hiking down to the 3 sisters, and then down into the rainforest below the orphan. We took a cool cable car back up from the rainforest... it was fun. Next stop, back here so Rachel could do ... read more

Only Rachel would come up with that description for a purple cactus which was shaped like an artichoke. So here i am in Sydney, after 36 hours of travel. I got through it of course and it was totally worth it! The trip started off well, with an improptu discussion about the hideousness of the american job market and the problems of standardized testing when i checked in at Newark airport. Lets put it this way, i had 4 very liberal conversations enroute to Sydney, 2 with americans, 2 with Aussies. These 4 conversations, the empty seat next to me from LA to here, and the 8 hours or so of conversations i had with my friends while at LAX are what made the trip overhere bearable. After landing and getting to town, we took much ... read more

Sunday, 15 August 2004 It's been a very long day, that consisted of a eight hundred kilometer drive, taking nine hours to complete. The Princes Highway starts a few suburbs from the centre of Melbourne and I joined it on the outskirts of Dandenong. Traveling towards the east, the road took me through many towns I have already worked in, Warragal, Morwell, Traralgon, Sale and Bairnsdale. Some of these have been visited this year. It was a good run out of Victoria. Mostly blue sky's with some scattered clouds that bought patches of rain. It was around two o'clock in the afternoon when I made my first stop at the Gippsland town of Cann River. Half an hour later I crossed into New South Wales. The weather got worst after I crossed the border. This part ... read more

It seems like yesterday since I took off and left this beautiful country and my dear friends there. In fact I left a home behind... Oh by the way I know by now that in Australia u don't fall off the earth and that you dont even notice that youre living a life headfirst. And I know now that you dont instantly get bitten by venomous spiders and snakes once you step off the plane :D haha These pictures all each tell their own stories and are dedicated to those beautiful times we had together. I'll be back! FOR REAL!! :-)... read more
