1964: tour of duty 2004: TOUR OF BOOTY! The Tour of Booty retraced the steps of three famous road trips-"Lock Up Yer Daughters", "National Pornographic" and "Northern Exposure" and then there is the uncharted territories of Adelaide and Perth-dear God! Originally the tour started out as just a week over in Perth, however some murmurs emerged from Adelaide, spesh the OldSchoolFriends crew! And then Nat moved to Narooma (now living in Canberra) so we had to pay our keg kid sister a visit!!! Thus the scene was set for a cross country land trip... THEN...out of nowhere, Libby L informs me that her going away party for her "Canadian Bacon" trip was going to be happening in Late January...how could there be a tour of booty without a visit to Buderim? This was now a full ... read more

The past few weeks in Sydney have been a mixture of great times and times of sheer frustration at staying in the same place for so long - previously my usual stay in any one place was 3 nights before moving on - making 3 weeks seem like a lifetime! It was a brilliant few weeks though, making some friends that I will kep in touch with for life and meeting my college friend Simon for Christmas and New Year. (Sadly the plan failed, as the lure of a real meal rather than a kebab for Christmas lunch caused me to abandon him, and the demon drink caused him to disappear on New Years an hour before the fireworks. The words "I'm going for a walk" were heard from him, and he was some time. Two ... read more

Here I am flying in the beautiful blue sky above Sydney. You didn't know I could fly, did you? I did go to Sydney, honest, there was just a slight mishap with the photos. When I say mishap, I mean that a certain person, who shall go nameless, failed to take a single picture of me on our trip. Maybe I'll go back one day, but for now this is the best I can do.... read more

Never really enjoyed a new years eve before, it has always felt anticlimatic & a hollow reason to celebrate. From years of enviously watching it on tv, NYE in Sydney is something i've always wanted to experience. The Aussies always look like they are having a ball and besides i've never had a new years eve in warm weather, its always been brass monkeys in the Uk. Sydney was similar to London on millenium eve outside, millions of people, great party atmosphere, random drunk strangers in your photos etc etc, only this time it was balmy warm t-shirt weather instead of toe numbing arctic weather in London at this time of the year. Sydney is a beautiful city especially when you are on the famous harbour and on new years eve there is an electricity in ... read more

I Started the walk at Govetts Leap lookout. Govetts Leap was named after William Govett, one of the first surveyors of the.....oh shit i'm even boring myself... The heat in the blue gum forest is sweltering in the summer, (typically around 50oC) and the trees discharge a mysterious modulating hissing noise akin to an assortment of evil snakes, it creates quite an eerie sinister atmosphere, not good for an invertebrate yellow belly lily-livered gutless wonder. I wondered astray from the designated walking track (doh!) got myself lost and had to spend 2 nights in here and alot of time swearing at trees and bushes......(when you spend 3 hrs hiking through prickly bush and thinking you are getting somewhere only to arrive at the same tree that you left 3 hrs ago, it is infuriating and there ... read more

Getting to Australia proved to be more tiring than I had imagined, and involved a lot of waiting around. The reason was that in my wisdom I had decided to get to Singapore from Bangkok by train for my flight. The journey involved : - Three seperate trains each of around 12 hours Two stop-overs in train stations of 12 and 10 hours The crossing of three borders. After this the 8 hour flight was nothing, in fact it was the least stressfull time I had had in the past three days. Initially it was strange to be back in a 'western' country, as obviously there was a completely different feel to the city of Sydney than there was to any of the cities I had visited in Asia - and it took me a few ... read more
