Hi all After NZ I flew to Sydney for a few days and what a fantastic City, I fully understan why its been voted one of the top places to live in the world, great weather, people, beaches, shopping, food yeah you name it. After Sydney I flew to Bali with very high expectations for some peace, great yoga, beautiful green jungle and yeah Ubud did deliver all of that and much more. A great combination of beautiful treks up the ridges, rice fields for miles, temples, galleries and the hustle and bustle of Ubud center. Now Im in Seminyak and tomorrow Im going to have my the first surf lesson in my life and I cant wait Im sure it will be great fun to hit those waves. I promise to tell you all about ... read more

Decided to drive to Sydney, so called into Wangaratta enroute to Sydney to take Es and Les out for lunch as Les turned 87 on the 20th January. Was a great pitstop lunch at the Sydney Hotel in Wang and then motored onto Sydney getting in at around 8.00p.m. Our apartment was terrific right on the edge of Darling Harbour and a few metres from where we were to catch our cruise for Australia Day. Adina Apartments in Shelley Street, would recommend if you want to be right in Darling Harbour. Ventured out for a well earned beer and some dinner after the long trip, chose Bungalow 8, which was very nice and overlooked the harbour. 25.1.2016 Up and out for breaky then for a long walk around Sydney, walked through the city to the Opera ... read more

Geo: -33.8671, 151.207After some kerfuffle at the hotel, including a leaking fridge we all head down to darling harbour for a few drinks and then a fantastic tapas. Sydney puts on an amazing electrical storm and huge downpour leaving the skyline almost invisible. It was a balmy evening for sure.Rob, Chris and I go the the slip inn on Sussex for a few more and it's here that we get the news that Stalin is in the vets. Jason & mum made the call to take him to the vets and so Chris and I change our flights to get home and make a decision.... read more

So i have been in Australia for a little over a week now. And already met so many people and did some pretty exciting things. I had not much time to update my blog, and even now i have to hurry because we are going to drink a few beers tonight. After the first 3 days settling in i decided to move to another hostel, in another part of Sydney called Manly. Its a little bit bigger then where i stayed the first 3 nights, and there are more clubs. That night people from the first hostel called me and asked if i wanted to join a beach barbecue, and it was close to my new hostel. So i joined, and it was an amazing experience to have a BBQ on the beach. Though the new ... read more

It's time to go home but first there is time for a champagne breakfast with Melissa, Emily and Kayleigh. I have already blogged about how Melissa met Emily but Melissa's meeting with Kayleigh is just as spontaneous. Melissa met Kayleigh when they were both having their medical check ups in the UK which is a condition of working as a nurse in Oz. They found out that each were travelling alone and a common basis of their friendship was established. Kayleigh was leaving a few weeks ahead of Melissa but her plans were to permanently emigrate whereas Melissa's was planning a 2 year working holiday. Eighteen months on Melissa, Kayleigh and Emily remind me of the bond that she has with her best friends at home Hannah and Robyn. The talk over breakfast naturally turns to ... read more

We were returning to Sydney one last time to fly onwards from there. We flew back from Cairns on another Virgin plane and the flight path took us out over the Barrier Reef. It was lovely to see it from the air. The plane took off at 11.25 am and the flight took about 3 hours to cover the 1500 miles or so of the journey that we had taken about a month to travel in the opposite direction. We were only staying in Sydney one night, before moving on. Steve had dithered about whether to stay in what he described as a 'box room' at a conveniently situated airport hotel or whether to take the more expensive, but better provisioned, option of a Sydney central hotel. In the end the city centre option won the ... read more

Part II I can't recall how Sydney Kingsford Smith International airport arrival hall looks like from the inside, I can only remember the waves of the ocean at the nearby bay before the plane landed, exiting the immigration gantry and queueing up to get a sim. It was a Wednesday morning, around 10am, Sydney time, and there were 50 over people waiting to get their sim. I saw someone purchasing 3 sim card as he had 2 phones and an iPad. I'd really love to interrupt and suggest to just use tethering so he does not have to take more time in purchasing multiple sim, and save money as well. Among the tourist, who can use 2GB in a single day? Certainly not me as I'd be spending time wandering around appreciating the view and ingest ... read more

Ok, Ok, I know; 2 updates within a week is a bit much, especially considering that the other took ages to write and post after they actually happened. But I thought I put my fingers out and get up to date with the lot. Especially since I am back in Brasilia and all is ready for a fresh start. So here we go…… As I mentioned in my last update, Carla and I had different flights to Sydney and she took off a couple of days earlier as she wanted to visit some friends in Sao Paulo. It also broke her flight up a bit as she had a killer leg; Brasilia, Sao Paulo, Cordoba (Argentina), Santiago (Chile), Auckland (NZ) and finally Sydney. And all that with 2 x 32 kg bags. That is what you ... read more

Sleeping for the first time with 6 people went quiet okay. Did sleep pretty good, but was not very long as I woke up at 5 and could not sleep anymore. All of my roommates had group activities today. As I did not book my trip with Australian Backpackers I could not join unfortunately, so I had to find out everything myself. First went to the store to buy some breakfast and get some cash. After that I had to arrange a bus card and some other stuff. As most of the people in this hostel was on a group tour, it was very quiet. But there were some people that stayed behind, so I could talk to them and ask some questions. Late in the afternoon I went for a walk in the neighborhood. There ... read more
